“What? Vanessa?” Nathan was stunned. Even the expression of Susanna in bed changed drastically.

“Yes,” Steve said, nodding.

“No way,” Nathan blurted out firmly. “She’s just a gynecologist. She? Operated on a high-profile figure like Mr. Barnard? That’s impossible.”

Vanessa had only assisted in Susanna’s surgery. Besides, she always fainted at the sight of blood. How could she pos- sibly be some brilliant surgeon? The disdain and contempt in Nathan’s eyes were undisguised.

“I see. You may leave for now.” Agitated, Nathan rubbed the bridge of his nose and waved his hand.

An imperceptible glint of jealousy and resentment shed in her eyes as she secretly observed his expression.

He was lost in thought, not responding immediately.

A wave of uneasiness surged through her, and she clenched her fingers tightly.
