Chapter 6 Her Freedom

“You brat, Nathan! You cheated on Vanny? How could you? Aren’t you ashamed of yourself?” It was gettingte, so Vanessa went to find Nathan to go home together. As she walked past the hallway, she heard Madeline’s angry voice from the study.

She was stunned.

“I didn’t, Grandma,” Nathan denied it indignantly.

“Stop lying, you little bastard! You forced Vanny to act all affectionate with you in front of me, didn’t you? You think I’m that easily fooled? You’re wrong! I know everything. It’s been five years since you married her, and you’ve never shared the bed with her? Instead, you’ve been spending time with that slut? You ignorant fool! What’s so good about her? Vanny outshines her in every way! Are you stupid or what, choosing her over Vanny? You’re such a disgrace to our family!” Madeline bellowed, the sound of her mming the desk echoing in the room.

She had been kept in the dark until today. Yesterday had been Valentine’s Day, and some paparazzi had snapped pho- tos of Nathan with a woman acting intimate.

Seething with rage, she had immediately had someone look into it, only to uncover such a disgraceful secret that she nearly fainted. That was why she had summoned them back home.

“Grandma, Susanna’s been the one I love. I don’t love Vanessa at all and only married her because you forced me to. If it weren’t for her, I would have lived happily with Suzy by now. You can’t me me,” Nathan retorted stubbornly, his cheeks flushed.

“Shut up, you fool! Susanna’s just the Dorsey family’s adopted daughter. She’s nothingpared to Vanny! Have you lost your mind? I’m warning you-don’t see her ever again. Honor your marriage vows. I want a great-grandchild within two years, or I swear I’m gonna cut you off without a dime!” Madeline struck the desk, coughing violently with rage.

Mixed emotions tangled in Vanessa’s heart.

While she hated seeing Madeline-who had always been kind to her-crushed by such a heavy blow, she was relieved at the same time. From now on, she’d never have to y along with Nathan anymore.

Now she could file for divorce with a perfectly valid reason.

Freedom was waving at her.

It had been five years. She had thought through and let go of a lot of things.

Marriage without love was grave, and she couldn’t wait to get rid of it.

Nathan didn’t love her at all, so why would she trap herself around him?

But the thought of Beatrice’s inevitable distress twisted her heart.

She left the hallway quietly.

“Vanny.” Casey linked arms with her with a warm smile as she entered the living room.

Presumably, Casey had known the truth, too.

Now she understood the trace of sympathy and pity hidden underneath Casey’s gaze all day.

Before this, since she hadn’t conceived a child after five years of marriage, Casey had always been dissatisfied with her, directly or indirectly mocking her and even forcing tonics good for fertility upon her.

“Vanny,e with me. I want a word with you,” Casey smiled at her affectionately and then pulled her to a bedroom.

“What is it, Casey?” She was confused.

“Vanny, you gotta be patient with men. Sweet-talk them whenever you can. You know what? They’re no different from kids. With enough coaxing, they’ll stick to you like glue,” Casey said.

She was even more baffled.

What was Casey suggesting?

“Just sit here. I’ll be back in a second.” Casey patted her shoulder before heading out with a mysterious smile.

She scratched her head. Before she could figure out what Casey meant, Nathan stepped into the room with a sullen.
