Chapter 8 How Dare She?
“Alright then. I’ll see you in a bit,” Vanessa said before hanging up. Then she snapped her fingers at Nathan, smiling sweetly and softly, “I’vee up with a perfect n. You stay here tonight, and I’ll get out. You can just tell Made- ler that you were asleep and didn’t know when I left. Then you won’t be med.”
No matter what, Nathan was Madeline’s grandson. It’d be a mess if Madeline really got upset with him and disowned him. On the contrary, she was just an outsider, which made things a lot easier.
Nathan’s gaze fell upon Vanessa, and he said nothing. The genuine smile on her face made it clear-she wasn’t lying. Instead, she indeed wanted to get out of here.
She had clung to him for years, and now, she didn’t even want to stay in the same room with him? All of a sudden, he felt so irritated.
“How are you gonna get out?” he asked.
“I’ll climb out from the window at the back. Someone will be there to pick me up.”
“Who?” he asked right away. “This is the second floor. What if you fall?”
Hearing this, she nced at him. Why was he so interested all of a sudden? He hated being with her, didn’t he? Then why bother knowing the details now? What a hypocrite.
“Sorry. Noment. That’s private,” she shrugged, replying coolly.
His expression froze slightly.
“Go to bed, alright? Just ignore me. I’ll leave in a short while. Don’t worry-I won’t share the room with you tonight.” With her phone in hand, she sat back down on the sofa and started to enjoy music, totally ignoring him.
He didn’t want to share the space with her? Likewise. The night he had spent with Susanna was so intense that Susan- na ended up in the hospital, and the scene alone sickened her. She couldn’t wait to leave.
Meanwhile, Nathan stood in ce motionlessly. Did he just see disgust in Vanessa’s eyes?
She loathed him? How dare she!
He instantly wanted to snap. But on second thought, he figured she was just ying hard to get. He knew her so well -maybe she was dying to sleep with him.
They were on the second floor. She didn’t have the balls to jump down.
On top of that, the vi was heavily guarded with patrols everywhere, and no one could ever break in. Besides, who’d dare mess with the Powell family?
He’d never fall for her petty tricks.

With this in mind, hey down and closed his eyes.
After a while, he heard Vanessa’s deliberately light Ruotsteps
He instinctively grew wary did she think he was asleep and decide to alip into his bed?
the turned around abruptly
To his suprise, she was already making fin the back window-like she couldn’t wait to get out
His heart sank. Did she mean it? Nomeone was here to pick her up?
But this was the second floor. What if she really tell and got hurt?
Exactly what was her n?
Out of curiosity and concern, he got up and followed her quietly.
Amid the darkness, she swiftly opened the back window and slipped out.
By the time he trotted over, she had already made it to the terrace below. As he poked his head out, he actually saw a
man there.
His heart skipped a beat. Since when did Vanesem know another man?
Just then, under the dim streetlight, he saw a woman steadying adder. Upon closer look, he recognized her. It was Kathleen, Vanessa’s bestie.
He scoffed, his precious confusion and uneasiness vanishing at once, Kathleen was Vanessa’s only bestie. Of course, Vanessa would turn to her. As for the man-well, he must have been Kathleen’s friend who was here to help.
That made sense. Would Vanessa really give up being Mrs. Powell just to be with another man? He’d bet every penny he had that the answer was negative.
He had always been and always would be Vanessa’s only love.
Watching them descend safely, he shrugged, turned around, and went back to bed
