The Mighty Mage
Chapter 655 655: Honeymoon
However, Gu Jin and Long Yifan did not expose Lady Ling's hidden intentions. Instead, they both continued to smile, their expressions calm and composed.
Seeing their smiles, Lady Ling was convinced that they had fallen right into her trap.
Believing her plan was working perfectly, she clapped her hands together and said warmly,
"You two should start preparing. The Forbidden Land will open soon."
Gu Jin and Long Yifan nodded obediently, playing their roles well.
Once Lady Ling left the mansion, the room fell silent. The members of the Gu family immediately surrounded Gu Jin and Long Yifan, their faces full of worry.
Mrs. Gu was the first to speak.
"That woman… she's sending you into the Forbidden Land? That place is nothing but danger! Even a mighty mage couple wouldn't dare to set foot there."
Mr. Gu's brows furrowed deeply.
"You both know what the Forbidden Land is. It's a sealed ground where ancient, supreme-ranked beasts are imprisoned. Once someone goes in, the chance of returning alive is less than one percent."
Gu Jihu slammed his hand on the table. "We can't just let her do this! There must be another way."
Long Yifan smiled faintly, his calmness surprising everyone. "Don't worry. Gu Jin and I already have our own plan."
Hearing those words, the Gu family finally exhaled in relief. But even so, worry still lingered in their eyes.
Mr. Gu spoke again, his tone heavy with emotion. "If there's anything we can do to help, anything at all, just say it. You're our family. We'll stand with you."
Gu Jin's heart softened. She looked at her father, a small smile tugging at her lips. "Actually, there is something I need help with."
Mr. Gu leaned forward immediately. "Tell me. No matter what it is, I'll do it."
Gu Jin's eyes shone faintly as she spoke.
"I need a list of temples. Specifically, temples that have been destroyed or abandoned, those that are isolated deep within forests or near teleportation arrays."
Everyone exchanged confused glances.
"Temples?" Mrs. Gu asked, puzzled. "Why would you need those?"
Before Gu Jin could answer, Long Yifan's expression brightened in realization. He understood exactly what she was thinking.
When they had descended into the mortal realm, both of their divine powers had been shattered, fragments of their essence scattered across different worlds.
Each time they traveled to a new realm, they managed to recover a piece of that lost power. Strangely enough, most of those fragments had fallen into this very world... the Mage World.
And those fragments were sealed within ancient temples.
The temples that held their powers shared one thing in common: they were always abandoned, forgotten by time, and located near teleportation arrays.
If Gu Jin and Long Yifan entered those temples together, they could regain their divine power and return to their true strength. But if only one of them entered, that person would only witness the past, not gain any power.
Gu Jin remembered that clearly. When she had entered a similar temple located in the outskirts of Fujio City, all she had seen were visions of her former life, but no strength returned to her.
Her gaze turned thoughtful as she recalled the gloves she had obtained from the Ancient Magic World. Those gloves, it turned out, had belonged to her in her previous life.
She also learned a shocking truth about the mysterious space she possessed. That space had been created by Long Yifan himself in their past life. The reason Long Yifan could enter it freely was simple: he was its true creator.
Even after her reincarnation, that space had remained with her. Somehow, it had traveled through time and rebirth, bound to her very soul.
The realization had stunned her, but at the same time, it brought comfort. So many questions she once had were finally answered.
Now, her goal was clear. If she and Long Yifan could locate and enter every temple on that list, they could regain their full divine powers long before stepping into the Forbidden Land.
With that thought, she exchanged a knowing glance with Long Yifan. He smiled faintly, both understanding each other perfectly without words.
At once, the Gu family began searching through old maps, internet news and records, and scrolls. The table was soon covered with documents and charts.
After several hours of discussion, they compiled a detailed list of temples that matched Gu Jin's description, all long-abandoned, hidden deep in forgotten corners of the world.
Gu Jin and Long Yifan studied the list carefully. Their plan was now complete.
The next morning, Lady Ling arrived at the Gu mansion, as cold and elegant as ever. She was clearly in a hurry.
"Are you two ready?" she asked. "The Forbidden Land gate will open in two weeks. We must leave soon."
Gu Jin smiled brightly, her expression calm. "Actually, Lady Ling, we were thinking of something else first."
Lady Ling frowned. "What do you mean?"
Long Yifan stepped forward and spoke gently, "We've just gotten married. We were planning to go on a honeymoon before anything else."
Lady Ling's face darkened instantly. "A honeymoon? At this time?"
Gu Jin nodded seriously. "Yes. We believe the Forbidden Land journey is sacred, and it shouldn't be rushed. We'd rather visit it after we've had time to… connect as husband and wife."
Lady Ling's lips twitched, but she managed a forced smile. "You can consider the Forbidden Land as your honeymoon destination. It's a place of divine energy, very suitable for bonding."
Gu Jin shook her head firmly.
"That's not how honeymoons work. It's a sacred time for couples to build understanding and harmony. How can we focus on that in a place filled with beasts and death?"
Long Yifan added with a straight face, "Besides, it's against our family's tradition. Newlyweds must travel together for at least three months before facing any major trials."
Lady Ling's composure cracked. Her jaw tightened, but she forced herself to stay calm.
"…And how long will this so-called honeymoon last?" she asked through clenched teeth.
Gu Jin and Long Yifan exchanged a quick glance, then smiled innocently.
"Half a year," they said in unison.
Lady Ling's eyes widened. "Half a year? That's absurd!"
Gu Jin blinked at her, feigning confusion. "Why? Do you have something against romance, Lady Ling?"
Realizing her outburst had been too strong, Lady Ling quickly composed herself. "No, it's just… there's too much work left undone. I can't afford to lose my top mage couple for half a year."
Long Yifan nodded thoughtfully. "Hmm. In that case, we'll just resign. That way, we won't be bound by duty, and we can freely spend our time together."
Lady Ling's face paled. "Resign?!"
"Yes," Gu Jin said sweetly. "We've worked very hard. Don't you think we deserve a break?"
Lady Ling could feel her temper rising. But no matter how angry she was, she couldn't openly stop them.
A powerful figure like her, preventing a newly married couple from taking time off, would only make her look suspicious.
After a long pause, she exhaled slowly and said stiffly, "Three months. I can give you three months. No more."
Gu Jin pretended to look disappointed. "Only three? That's too short…"
Long Yifan sighed dramatically. "Then I suppose we'll take four months. That's our final compromise."
Lady Ling clenched her fists beneath her sleeves. Every word from their mouths made her blood boil, but she could only force a smile.
"…Fine. Four months," she said at last. "But after that, you go straight to the Forbidden Land. No more delays."
Gu Jin and Long Yifan exchanged a triumphant glance and smiled warmly. "Thank you, Lady Ling! We really appreciate your understanding!"
Lady Ling waved a hand impatiently. "Whatever. Just make sure you return on time."
Though she agreed outwardly, frustration filled her heart. She wanted to stop them... but she couldn't. After all, who in the world would stop newlyweds from taking a honeymoon?
Besides, she thought smugly, they won't be able to run far anyway.
Once they return, they'll enter the Forbidden Land, and then… no one will ever see them again.
Her expression softened, pretending to be kind once more. "So, where are you two planning to go first?"
Gu Jin and Long Yifan looked at each other, their eyes gleaming mischievously.
"We're thinking of visiting Country A first," Gu Jin said cheerfully. "Then Country J, and after that, Country B."
Lady Ling frowned. "Why those places?"
Long Yifan answered with a straight face, "In Country A, there's a legend that says if a couple sits on a certain bench together, their love will last for seven lifetimes."
Gu Jin nodded enthusiastically.
"And in Country J, there's a cottage said to bless couples with lifelong peace if they spend a night there. We thought it would be nice to try all these traditions."
Lady Ling blinked, utterly unimpressed. Inside, she was thinking, What ridiculous nonsense.
But she merely smiled, shaking her head. "Young couples truly have boundless energy."
Gu Jin laughed softly, her eyes calm yet full of secrets. "Of course. Isn't that what makes life interesting?"
