CHAPTER 258: CHAPTER 148: AN UNEXPECTED PACKAGE (PART 2)
"Sister You, put me down quickly. I need to tell you, it was a really nice uncle who put the package in there," Xiao Maiqi was being half-carried by Xia You like a little turtle.
Xiao Maiqi had been on vacation for several days now. Simon and Xia You were not at home, and Xia Yun had to attend to the reopening of the restaurant and wouldn’t let her wander around. She was bored and alone, idly spending her days in the yard, watching the passersby and vehicles.
This morning, while Xia Yun had gone out to buy groceries, leaving her alone at home, she had been in the yard, licking a lollipop she got after breakfast, when she heard the sound of the mailbox being unlocked. She thought it was the postman uncle delivering the water and electricity bills, so she ran out and happened to see an uncle slipping something into their mailbox.
"A really nice looking uncle?" Xia You tried to understand the image of a "nice person" in a child’s mind, probably picturing a stranger with thick eyebrows, a square face, and a big smile.
"That’s right, he’s not as handsome as Uncle Lin, but he looks a bit like Brother Ren, about the same height too, with dark skin, and he laughs with a ’hehe’ sound," Xiao Maiqi tried her best to describe using her elementary vocabulary, and he also said, ’Tell your sister to make good use of this thing.’"
After listening to a bunch of "brothers" and "uncle," Xia You deduced that the man who had sent her the gun must be taller than one meter eighty and older than Lin Yi. But apart from that, a man with dark skin who laughs with a ’hehe’ sound—there’s a myriad of them out on the streets.
"And oh, brother told me that after a while he will take us to live in a big house, one even bigger than our school," Xiao Maiqi whispered in Xia You’s ear about the last time she had ice cream with her brother.
"Maggie, do you have brother’s phone number, the kind that’s a string of digits," Xia You was somewhat worried. Simon was not someone who made empty promises, especially in front of Xiao Maiqi. She didn’t know what he had been up to recently.
"Yes," Xiao Maiqi recited a string of numbers. Simon had taken the effort of giving her three ice creams to make her remember it, in case she got lost one day and couldn’t find anyone. She also knew Sister You’s and her mother’s phone numbers by heart.
Xia You dialed Simon’s number, and when the call connected, she heard a remarkably calm greeting.
Xia You practically had no memorized Simon’s mobile number since he was always causing trouble and changing his number every few days. But the first number entered in Simon’s phone was Xia You’s.
"Mom just asked about you, come home if you have time," Xia You said, carefully listening and noting there weren’t the messy background noises like before.
"After a while, I will return," Simon heard the sound of a doorknob turning and, without saying goodbye, hung up the phone. The door opened, and a dark-skinned, nice-looking man walked in.
"How are preparations going?" He noticed that Simon had broken their agreement by using communication tools, but considering Simon’s good training performance recently, the man didn’t pay special heed.
"Everything is ready. How many people will act with me that night?" Xiao Maiqi’s assessment of her brother was accurate. Simon had changed a lot in appearance during the months he was away. If Xia You saw him on the street, it would take her a moment to recognize him.
The dazzling blond hair had been dyed brown-black, the blue eyes hidden behind brown contact lenses, and his attire was the same as what typical office workers wore, though his features still retained a certain foreign appearance.
"I will act with you. Remember, that day we have two targets, one is Ding Han, and the other is the bishop of the David Sect. There are several people in the crowd you need to pay special attention to, especially the senior officers of the Rand Military Region, particularly those young officers, try to avoid direct confrontation with them as much as possible," the man said, chuckling with a ’hehe’.
"Are you sure our actions won’t harm others? All the participants are from the Rand Military; Xiao You also works there," Simon was still not at ease. In the earlier call, he wanted to remind Xia You to try to avoid attending military events, even though he already knew beforehand that Xia You was one of the organizers.
"I’m certain that it won’t harm Xia You and her companions. I don’t want anyone on our side to get injured during this operation," the man’s promise seemed to have a magical power that made Simon believe his words.
Even though Simon knew that in the next few days, he would be engaging in life-threatening activities, over the past month, he and the man had formed an intangible yet solid relationship, as well as with his comrades, each of whom was so well-trained, just like a regular army.
And all these relationships were based on the man’s vast network of information, from providing Simon with a villa full of training facilities to stay in, to getting the list of all attendees for the Alliance Friendly Meeting. These things all revealed a message: that this man with military bearing before him was a person with incredible capabilities.
Simon believed that once the operation was completed, the man would fulfill all his promises. However, Simon didn’t know that all this was just the beginning. What he would face was much more complicated than he expected. (To be continued. If you like this work, you are welcome to cast your recommendation votes and monthly votes at Qidian (qidian.com).
