CHAPTER 260: CHAPTER 149: OLD PHOTOGRAPH (PART 2)
"You two just stay with Ms. Ding, I had originally planned to assign you outdoors today," Wuyue did not manage to invite Saint Father David, so she didn’t put much thought into arranging Xia You’s specific work location.
"I heard that Yimo is coming soon. I want to get his autograph and a photo together. You both push me upstairs to get the album," Ding Ling checked the time, it was still early. Zhang Fangxiao hadn’t arrived yet, but she wouldn’t let Xia You and the others have an easy day, as they offended her last time.
"Push? How do we push?" Mo Xixi pointed at the winding staircase of Ding’s house, which doesn’t have an elevator even though there’s someone with mobility issues at home. Usually, Ding Ling goes up and down mostly carried by Lu Xun and the Personal Guards of Major General Ding, but everyone is busy with their own things today, so no one is here to do this job.
"Why are you so stupid? If you can’t push, then lift, one of you take each wheel, don’t bump or knock me," Ding Ling huffed. Her weight is about forty-something kilograms, but her wheelchair almost weighs the same as her. Lifting her up and down would practically kill Xia You and Mo Xixi.
"Ms. Ding, where is your album? I can help you get it," Xia You pressed one hand on the wheelchair and smiled at Ding Ling.
"I said I want to go up and get it, are you deaf?" Ding Ling shouted. Wuyue and her subordinates stood not far away but no one came forward to help.
"Ms. Ding, if you can go and get it yourself, please do so, otherwise, you must follow my arrangements," Xia You’s hand slipped onto Ding Ling’s leg. The wheelchair rolled forward several steps.
Mo Xixi hurried behind Ding Ling and kicked lightly, making Ding Ling’s wheelchair slide forward, and Xia You pushed again. Wuyue hummed and said, "We should go and check other places, see if anything is missing." It seems even though Ding Ling has lost her memory, her temper hasn’t changed.
Ding Ling had never been played around with like this before. She tried to call for help, but among all the Rand Army soldiers standing around, she couldn’t see Lu Xun anywhere, and everyone else had heard of her fierce reputation, so no one dared to intervene.
"In the second floor, my bedroom, next to my jewelry box," Ding Ling shifted her eyes, sprouting another plan. Xia You witnessed the changes in her expression but said nothing.
"I’ll go up and get it, you wait here," Xia You turned and went upstairs. As she reached the corridor, she saw Lu Xun coming down from upstairs.
"Lieutenant Colonel Lu," Xia You saluted. Lu Xun grunted and was about to continue down when Xia You asked again, "Lieutenant Colonel, could you help me find Ms. Ding’s album? She mentioned wanting to get Yimo’s autograph later." Ding Ling casually mentioned that the album was next to her jewelry box, which sounded odd to Xia You. Mo Xixi, a big music fan, has dozens of albums at home, and placing an album next to a jewelry box was quite out of place and likely improbable.
Lu Xun thought for a moment, then turned and went back upstairs. Xia You followed him. The layout of the Ding family and the plans of the Rand Military District were detailed, and Lu Xun was now heading to the third floor, not to Ding Ling’s room on the second floor.
"Xiao Ling likes to listen to albums in my room. She says she wants to turn me into a ’Death Track’ fan... she’s always been clingy to her brother," Lu Xun led Xia You into his room and added a clarification that he seemed unsure about.
The room was briefly silent. Lu Xun walked to the bookshelf, feeling inexplicably annoyed. He regretted letting Ding Ling bring so many albums to his room. When tidying up, Lu Xun placed the albums on the highest part of the shelf.
The albums were under several military magazines. With some force, Lu Xun pulled them out, and a small box came down with them.
The box flipped open, and a photo floated down. Lu Xun quickly let go of the albums, attempting to catch the photo.
The disc landed on the floor, and Xia You reacted quickly, catching the photo.
It was an old photo, its edges already yellowing. In the year 2064, not many people still printed and preserved photos.
Xia You saw two children, a boy and a girl, in a messy streetscape, but the expressions of the children were clean. They were grinning and making "V" signs with their fingers.
The photo was quickly snatched away. Lu Xun didn’t care about the albums that fell on the floor. This photo, taken by a photographer who came to capture street scenes when he was on the street, was a memento of him and "Ling." Although he and Ding Ling took many photos together later, it was still that photo from their childhood that he found most unforgettable.
Realizing his impolite behavior just now, Lu Xun quickly apologized: "I’m sorry, this is a childhood photo of me and Ling. It’s quite precious, so..." His voice trailed off as his mind went blank.
Xia You’s tears uncontrollably fell down.
Lu Xun felt a sourness in his heart. Ding Ling’s frequent crying made him almost immune to women’s tears.
But today, Xia You’s tears stirred something in him. He hadn’t interacted much with Xia You, but he remembered her as someone who never cried, not even when faced with his harsh training initially, she never showed any complaints and often looked at him challengingly.
"I’m sorry, I lost my composure," Xia You didn’t understand why she suddenly started crying, she just knew that she felt waves of discomfort inside.
"It’s my fault," Lu Xun scratched his head, looking at Xia You’s shoulders quivering with sobs. He suddenly felt the urge to pull her into his arms.
Downstairs of the villa, there was a burst of cheering. Xia You recognized Mo Xixi’s voice among them, "Yimo!!!" (To be continued. If you like this work, welcome to Qidian (qidian.com) to vote for it. Your support is my greatest motivation.)
