The Mind-Reading Mate: Why Is the Lycan King So Obsessed With Me?
Chapter 202: Between Heaven and Bloodline
CHAPTER 202: BETWEEN HEAVEN AND BLOODLINE
Primrose didn’t say anything, but the look in her eyes said enough. Deep down, she already knew something about her wasn’t normal.
Leofric spoke slowly, carefully choosing his words. "The magic I found inside the tiger’s brain ... it was mind control magic."
He let the words settle in Primrose’s mind before continuing. "This isn’t something that can be learned or trained. Even someone with powerful magic couldn’t use it unless they were born with it."
"There are only two possible explanations for someone to have this kind of ability," he continued. "One, they inherited it through bloodline. Or two ..." He hesitated, clearly unsure whether to say it. "They were blessed by the heavens themselves."
Leofric let Primrose absorb the information for a moment before asking again, "So, which one is it, Your Majesty?" He looked at her intently. "Did you inherit that magic through your bloodline, or ... does heaven love you so much that it blessed you with such tremendous power?"
Primrose opened her mouth to answer but stopped halfway. Her lips pressed into a line.
The truth was ... she didn’t know. She had no idea where this strange power came from.
"I don’t know," she said softly. "I’ve never controlled anyone’s mind before."
"Else," Leofric emphasized. "You’ve never controlled anyone else’s mind, except for the tiger, remember?"
He leaned back slightly. "I’ve already sealed this place with a magical barrier. No one will hear a word of what’s being said in this room. That’s why, Your Majesty, if there’s something you want to tell us, you won’t be in any danger after doing so."
Telling them that she could control someone’s mind was one thing. But telling them that she could read people’s minds? That was an entirely different matter.
If they knew, they’d likely start guarding their thoughts around her. And worst of all, she wouldn’t be able to read Edmund’s mind so freely anymore.
"No," she said finally, keeping her voice light. "I don’t have anything else to say. I honestly don’t even understand how I was able to control someone’s mind in the first place."
"I see," Leofric replied.
Although his expression didn’t show the slightest hint of suspicion, his thoughts told a different story.
[I feel like Her Majesty is still hiding something.]
[Mind control magic is extremely rare. She might be the only person in the world who possesses it right now.]
[And based on the information I’ve gathered, someone with that kind of ability usually awakens another power before their mind control manifests.]
[What was it again? Oh ... the mind-reading ability. That’s it. It always comes first.]
[But I’m not sure if he has that ability or not.]
Primrose dug her fingernails into her palm, silently reminding herself not to react, not to let her thoughts show on her face.
Her eyes widened for a brief second, but she quickly lowered her gaze, hiding it behind a blink.
"There’s a chance you inherited this magic," Leofric said again, a bit more gently. "Maybe you’ve had it since you were born, but it only awakened recently when you were in danger."
Primrose furrowed her brows. "My father didn’t have any magic like that."
Leofric tilted his head. "What about your mother?"
"I ... I don’t know much about her," Primrose admitted, looking down. "She died right after giving birth to me. And my father never mentioned anything about her having magic either."
Leofric’s expression softened after hearing her story. "I’m sorry, Your Majesty."
"No, it’s alright." Primrose lifted her head again and gave him a small smile. "It happened a long time ago anyway."
If she didn’t inherit her magic through bloodline ... could it really be that the heavens had blessed her?
After all, no one had ever gone back in time and escaped without consequences.
And if this wasn’t a blessing ... then she truly didn’t know what was happening to her anymore.
"But bloodlines don’t just come from parents, right?" Edmund spoke up beside her. "They can also be passed down from her ancestors."
"That’s not impossible," Leofric nodded. "At least, it sounds more logical than the ’heaven’s blessing’ theory."
Primrose could hear Edmund’s thoughts. [Why does he always act like it’s impossible? My wife is such a kind and lovable person, I’d be more surprised if heaven didn’t love her.]
Kind? Lovable?
Had her husband forgotten that she had planned to kill the Marquess? That she had nearly caused someone’s death?
She was anything but kind and lovable. At least, not in the way people imagined.
"What should I do, Sir Leofric?" Primrose asked seriously. "I can’t control this magic yet, and I’m afraid I might hurt someone by accident."
She turned toward Edmund and whispered softly, "I ... I don’t want to hurt my husband as well."
"Hurt Edmund?" Leofric let out a laugh. "Oh, Your Majesty, you really don’t have to worry about him. You could probably ask him to throw himself into a volcano and that bastard would still crawl back out alive."
"Sir Leofric, please mind your language," Primrose said firmly, her tone leaving no room for jokes. "You can’t refer to my husband with such ... indecent words."
Leofric shifted his gaze toward Edmund, as if silently saying, ’Your wife is scary’, but Edmund only looked away, pretending not to notice.
"My deepest apologies, Your Majesty," Leofric said after clearing his throat. "What I meant is ... His Majesty is not someone who dies easily. His healing ability is the strongest among the beasts."
[I’ve lost count of how many times he’s nearly died ... but he always comes back, somehow.] Leofric thought to himself. [This basta—this lycan is practically unkillable. Wait... why am I censoring myself inside my own head?!]
[She’s so scary ... Her Majesty is terrifying. Even I’m getting goosebumps when she gave me that look.]
But all she did was look at him the way she looked at anyone else!
She wasn’t scary at all! Her husband even called her kind and lovable all the time!
Wait ... now she was confused.
She didn’t want to be seen as "lovable and kind," but she also didn’t want to be seen as scary. So ... what exactly did she want?
Primrose shook her head slightly, pushing aside the pointless thoughts that had nothing to do with their current conversation.
"Anyway," she said, returning to the topic, "can you teach me how to control this ability?"
She looked at Leofric with determined eyes. "My husband might be hard to kill, but still, I don’t want to hurt him."
