The Mind-Reading Mate: Why Is the Lycan King So Obsessed With Me?
Chapter 315: The Queen’s Gentle Kiss (II)
CHAPTER 315: THE QUEEN’S GENTLE KISS (II)
Edmund swallowed hard, finally parting his lips to say something. But before a single word could escape, the sudden crash of a wooden sword storage box hitting the ground echoed through the hall.
The loud crash made several soldiers flinch, their shoulders jerking as they froze on the spot. One unlucky soldier stood stiff as a statue, his face turning pale the moment he realized he was the one who had dropped it.
At that moment, both Edmund and Primrose finally realized there were still others around them. Primrose even began to hear the flood of thoughts rushing from the soldiers all at once.
[Did they just kiss? The Queen actually kissed His Majesty’s lips?!]
Primrose almost rolled her eyes. Why were they acting so shocked? They were husband and wife!
Hadn’t these young men ever seen their parents kiss each other before?
[Moon Goddess save us, what did we just witness?!]
[No way ... the terrifying Lycan King actually blushed when his wife kissed him?!]
Oh ... so they weren’t shocked about her kissing Edmund. What truly rattled them was seeing the mighty Lycan King turn soft and shy in front of his wife.
Primrose could only sigh inwardly. It seemed her little visit to the training ground had completely shattered her husband’s fearsome image.
Primrose hid a small smile behind her hand. Well, so what if his fearsome image was ruined? She rather liked being the only one who could turn the mighty Lycan King into a flustered man.
On the other hand, Edmund didn’t really care much about his image either. The only thing circling in his mind was Primrose’s promise to kiss him every time he started overthinking.
[What if I overthink every hour?] he wondered, his lips refusing to move as his thoughts whispered to her. [Will you still kiss me then?]
Primrose set the sandwich aside and slipped her fingers into his. With a teasing smile, she leaned closer. "If that’s the case, I can kiss you every five minutes if you want."
Edmund held his breath for a moment. His ears turned red instantly, and though he tried to look composed, his grip on her hand tightened as if he were afraid to let go.
CRASH!
The sudden clatter of a metal rack hitting the floor made the entire hall jolt. Edmund’s head snapped toward the sound, and in an instant, the gentle, flustered husband vanished. What stood there instead was the fearsome king once more.
He clicked his tongue, his face hardening like stone. "Are you done eating?!" His voice thundered through the hall, making the soldiers stiffen in terror. "Stop fooling around and get back in line! I’ll be testing your running times again after this!"
The poor soldier who had dropped the rack turned as pale as milk, silently cursing himself. Meanwhile, Primrose had to cover her mouth to hide her smile at how quickly her gentle giant had flipped back into the terrifying Lycan King.
But when he turned back to her, his gaze instantly softened. "Did I hurt your ears?" Edmund asked quietly, his voice so different from the thunderous roar he had just unleashed on the soldiers.
Primrose shook her head, her lips forming into a small smile. "Not at all. I’m used to your loud voice by now."
The soldiers, still frozen in line, nearly toppled over in shock. [Used to it?! Our queen can actually smile after hearing that terrifying roar?!]
Primrose let out a soft sigh. Their ears were too sharp, so they could hear every single thing she said. That was why, whenever she wanted to speak privately with Edmund, she always had to lower her voice until it was barely audible.
"I’m sorry," Edmund said softly, guilt written across his face. "I don’t think I can stay and eat with you for too long. I want to finish my work quickly today, so I can come to your chamber before you fall asleep. Would it ... be alright if I slept beside you tonight?"
Primrose picked up her sandwich and nodded, smiling at him. "You can sleep with me every day, husband. You don’t need to ask me that again." Then, after taking a bite, she looked straight into his eyes. "But actually, I was thinking about ... sleeping in your room tonight."
Edmund blinked, tilting his head in surprise. "Why?"
Primrose lifted her shoulders in a light shrug. "Because I want to. Is that not allowed?"
She honestly didn’t even know the real reason herself. The only thing on her mind right now was to stay close to her husband and breathe in his pheromones whenever she had the chance.
Edmund had already slept in her chamber more times than she could count, but she realized she could breathe in his scent so much more deeply whenever she spent the night in his room.
Besides, it didn’t seem fair that Edmund was always the one staying in her chamber, while she had almost never taken the time to sleep in his.
"Then ... I will ask the maids to tidy up my chamber before you come," Edmund said.
Primrose smiled. "Thank you, husband." After a brief silence between them, she asked again, "Did you let Sir Leofric out of the dungeon today?"
Edmund’s expression turned slightly irritated at the mention of Leofric’s name. "Yes. Besides, I don’t think keeping him in the dungeon feels like punishment for him."
[He has slept in places far worse than the dungeon, so to him, that place must feel like heaven.]
Primrose fell silent for a moment, imagining what kind of places could be worse than a dungeon.
"I also told him to train Sir Callen to become a stronger soldier," Edmund continued. "He agreed, but it seems he wants to talk about something serious with the two of us later."
Ah, so Leofric probably wanted to talk about her sister and the heavenly punishment with Edmund.
Primrose still had no idea how she could tell Edmund about that without making him even angrier at Leofric.
Although he didn’t seem as furious with his friend anymore, she was certain Edmund would truly lose his temper if Leofric intended to use his wife.
