CHAPTER 419: A KING’S FIRST DANCE

"He does." Primrose turned toward her husband and buried her face into his embrace. "Husband, I’m really happy because I can finally come home."

Edmund lay beside her and gently stroked the back of her head. He didn’t say anything, but his warmth and quiet presence were enough to calm her heart.

The long trip from Noctvaris to Illvaris had taken so much energy, and the carriage bed could never compare to her real bed. Maybe that was why she fell asleep so quickly, without even noticing.

When she woke up, she faintly saw the snowstorm raging outside through the gap in the curtain. Even though it was already morning, the sky still looked dark, but she didn’t feel cold at all because her husband’s body radiated natural warmth.

Primrose looked down and realized Edmund must have changed her clothes last night so she could sleep more comfortably.

Primrose looked down and realized Edmund had even changed her clothes so she could sleep more comfortably. She lifted her head and tapped the tip of Edmund’s nose playfully. He always looked extra adorable when he was asleep, and she couldn’t help teasing him.

But before she could poke him again, Edmund suddenly grabbed her hand and opened his eyes. "My wife, you should have kissed me instead."

Primrose was startled for a moment before laughing. "I was about to kiss you, but you already woke up." He leaned forward, closing his eyes. "Now you’re the one who has to kiss me."

Without saying anything, Edmund immediately did what she asked. He kissed her lips several times until it deepened and Primrose almost lost her breath.

"Husband..." she whispered breathlessly when he finally pulled away. "You shouldn’t do naughty things in my parents’ house. You’ve only been here for one night."

She smiled when Edmund didn’t seem to care about her playful warning. He said, "Once everyone knows you’re pregnant, they’ll also know we’ve done a lot of naughty things."

Primrose giggled as her husband continued kissing her lips and moved down to her neck. He had even shifted on top of her now. At this moment, she knew Edmund wanted to do something more than just kissing.

She didn’t mind if he wanted to have morning sex. Besides, the weather outside was terrible, so they couldn’t go anywhere anyway. However, just before Edmund could go any further, the door to her chamber suddenly burst open.

"My Lady! We’re here to—"

Edmund and Primrose turned at the same time, staring at three maids standing frozen in the doorway. They were holding breakfast trays and towels, which immediately slipped from their hands and crashed to the floor.

[AAAAA THE BEAST KING WANTS TO EAT MY LADY!]

They screamed inside their minds all at once.

Primrose let out a soft sigh, then spoke half-heartedly, "Girls... you can’t just barge into my bedroom like that anymore." She added with a tiny pout,"I’m a married woman now."

Back when she still lived here, the maids were used to entering her room first thing in the morning to wake her up or bring breakfast if her father wasn’t home.

Since Primrose had just returned after months away, it was natural for them to be excited and instinctively resume the routine they used to do for her.

After all, they had also prepared a separate room for the Lycan King, and it was normal for nobles to sleep in different rooms if they didn’t plan to spend the night together.

So to walk in and see the mighty Lycan King in their Lady’s bed first thing in the morning... and looking like he was about to devour her... their souls almost left their bodies.

After a moment, they finally realized Edmund wasn’t trying to eat Primrose, but did something indecent to her instead!

That sounded better, but at the same time, they still weren’t happy! Maybe because they always saw Primrose as an innocent and sweet lady, even though she had never been innocent, not even before she got married.

"We—we’re sorry, My Lady!" Nani bowed so fast her hair almost fell off, and the others quickly followed. "We will come back later!"

In seconds, they rushed out and closed the door, leaving the fallen breakfast and towels scattered on the floor.

Primrose finally laughed and gently pushed Edmund aside so she could sit up. "You should’ve made sure the door was locked."

After their steamy moment was destroyed just like that, both of them lost the mood to continue what they planned earlier.

Well, technically Edmund still wanted to, but since his wife clearly wasn’t in the mood anymore, he didn’t force her.

"Don’t worry." Primrose kissed his cheek lightly. "We can do it again tonight. But for now, get up, we have something else to do!"

Edmund blinked. With the snowstorm still raging outside, he couldn’t imagine what she wanted to do. They definitely weren’t going anywhere in this weather.

However, after they had breakfast and visited Lazarus—who had been forced by Primrose to stay in his room for an entire day—Edmund finally figured out what his wife wanted to do with him.

She took him to the manor’s hall, the place where the Duke of Illvaris usually held banquets.

"We have to dance at the King of Azmeria’s banquet later," Primrose reminded him. "But I heard from Sir Leofric that you’ve never danced before."

It wasn’t really that Edmund couldn’t dance, he simply never had the chance because no woman ever dared to approach him, and he never bothered to approach anyone either.

Or rather... he simply wasn’t interested in any woman except for his future wife, even before the Moon Goddess revealed who she was.

Primrose was honestly amazed by how loyal he had been, even before they met. The maids had once told her that it was rare—very rare—for a lycan or Alpha werewolf to stay pure before meeting their fated mate.

The reason was simple: their desire was extremely hard to control, especially when they entered their rut period. But instead of seeking a woman to keep him company during his rut, the Lycan King chose to isolate himself from the world.

Some people laughed and said he was being dramatic, but most female beasts who heard about it thought he was the sweetest man in the world.

"I just want to make sure, can you dance or not?" Primrose asked gently. "Don’t be embarrassed. You can tell me the truth."

She didn’t want her husband to stand in front of humans and accidentally embarrass himself, giving them another chance to talk behind his back.

If anyone dared to insult him and call him stupid, Primrose would happily tell them to jump off a cliff.

"I can’t," Edmund admitted quietly. He lowered his head, avoiding her eyes. "That’s why... I thought... it would be better if you danced with your father."

That had been his original plan, but since Lazarus had injured his leg, that plan was no longer possible.

"Why would I dance with my father at a banquet?" Primrose frowned. "This isn’t a debutante ball. And if I did that, people would probably think our marriage is awful."

Edmund pressed his lips into a thin line, not knowing what to say. He didn’t want anyone to think badly of his wife, but at the same time, he also didn’t want to embarrass Primrose at the banquet because he wasn’t able to dance properly.

"It’s alright." Primrose took his hands and gently led him to the center of the ballroom. "I can teach you. Besides, the banquet will only take place in three days. We still have plenty of time, my dear husband."

Edmund followed her in silence, letting her guide him. His steps were stiff at first, his expression serious as if he was preparing to face a battlefield rather than a dance lesson.

Primrose bit her lip to hold back a laugh. "Relax," she said softly, placing one hand on his shoulder and the other in his palm. "You don’t have to look like you’re about to fight a dragon."

"I am not used to... this," Edmund muttered, eyes fixed on their joined hands. "I don’t want to step on you."

Primrose lifted his chin with her finger, forcing him to meet her gaze. "Even if you do, it’s alright, you can heal my feet later."

He stared at her in silence, then spoke in a low voice, full of sincerity. "You are very precious. I don’t want to hurt you, not even a little."

Her heart melted instantly at his words.

"Oh, you sweet wolf," she whispered, smiling as she placed his hand on her waist. "That’s exactly why you won’t."

There wasn’t any music in the ballroom, but that was even better, because it allowed Primrose to focus on teaching him how to step correctly.

Primrose counted softly, "One, two, three... one, two, three..." She said, "It’s alright, you can just follow me."

Edmund tried to follow. He stepped wrong on the second beat, then again on the third. A moment later, he stiffly moved his foot, nearly tripping over her gown.

Primrose let out a tiny squeak and quickly caught his arm to steady him.

Edmund froze. "...I am terrible."

"No, you’re adorable," she corrected with a giggle. "And terrible. But mostly adorable."
