"We can surely do that. Let me assist you to find the best phone we have in your budget."

Although the store was basically self-serve, as soon as he entered, a nearby clerk walked ahead with enthusiasm, his glowing eyes dimmed a lot when Chris opened his mouth only to complain.

"Y... Yes, sir, please follow me."

Walking inside the store didn’t generate that much emotion for Chris, the smell of this store used to make his heart flutter, but now it felt like just a regular day.

"Sir, this is I...the iPhone 16 Pro Max, the latest this year of 2024. It’s the 1 TB variant. This is the best p...phone available right now."

The clerk was visibly nervous when six-foot-five Chris stood in front of him with a query-filled gaze, he was stammering and perspiring, obviously intimidated by his sheer presence.

"Hey, look, I am sorry. I am not usually rude like this. I was annoyed by a few people on the way. You don’t have to be nervous with me. How about you choose the color for me?"

Realizing he was very rude to this poor dude, Chris patted his shoulder gently and smiled, his smile turned the clerk as if he were a new man. He got his confidence back and even fixed his standing posture.

"It’s alright, sir, I will suggest to you this ’White Titanium’ color."

"Why, because I am white?"

"AH! No, I just wanted to..."

"I am messing with you, Xavier. I’ll take that ’White Titanium’ 1 TB variant, just transfer the files for me, please."

Xavier laughed when Chris made a small joke with him, and he was all smiley after that and even gave Chris suggestions on buying a new charger with the new phone.

"We also have AirPods 4 with the ANC feature if you like."

"Sure, pack it as well."

His old phone was useless after every picture and data was transferred into his new phone, then the clerk packed the old one into the new box because Chris was going to use the new one.

"How much is it?"

"Your total comes to two thousand one hundred eighty-nine dollars and ninety-nine cents, sir."

"Including tax?"

"Yes, Sir."

Opening his wallet, he pressed the new card onto the register, Xavier simply swiped it and gestured for Chris to put in his PIN.

*SHING*

"Thank you, sir. Please come again if you need anything."

"Here, take this for your trouble."

"Sir, I can’t take money, this is my job."

"It’s just $100, take it. I got my payment of $50,000 from Amazon, so don’t worry about it."

Chris raised an eyebrow when no notification got triggered, he felt like his skills, which were supposed to get better, might’ve dimmed. With a confused mind, he looked at Xavier only to get shocked, that man was crying, holding the hundred-dollar note.

"M... My mother is sick, this money will help a lot. She’s in Mexico."

Xavier was about to refuse, but hearing such a ridiculous number from Chris, he simply just took the money and shut his mouth. Chris was also shocked because the system interface has changed a lot after the upgrade, it’s now longer and more professional-looking.

Xavier even opened the glass door for him when he was leaving with an apple bag in hand. As soon as he left the store, Chris searched for a Samsung store, and there was none in the mall but a flagship store just outside.

Grabbing his new white phone in hand, he went according to the Google map because he didn’t know where the Samsung store was, until now nobody in his family used one, only Grace uses a bulky Samsung.

As he was about to exit the mall, he saw a bunch of people outside the mall door. They were filming? Chris found it really annoying, people filming in the middle of a public space.

They’ve too many cameras.

Observing the situation for a while, Chris walked out, he realized he didn’t have much choice and they were not harassing anyone.

"Hello, do you want to get featured in the Mr. Beast videos? It’s youtube reel ones "

A random person wearing the same outfit as the filming crew came up to Chris and asked with a smile. Chris was not certain if he really wanted to be in a video like this, but for the fun of it, he agreed.

"I AM HERE IN SCRANTON. TODAY WE ARE GIVING AWAY 10 GRAND IF THE PERSON IS SUBSCRIBED. WHAT IS YOUR NAME, SIR?"

As soon as he agreed, Chris was taken to the inner circle of the filming zone. They were shooting a young girl when he entered, then they gave her a bunch of cash, and after that, it was another old man’s turn.
