The Most Powerful Wealth System
Chapter 44. Angeline
CHAPTER 44: 44. ANGELINE
"Oh, I suddenly feel very awkward," muttered Riki, which Evan could hear.
Daniel, who felt bad about letting the girl go down alone, finally accompanied her down to the parking lot.
Angeline didn’t refuse, because Daniel was the manager there. Meanwhile, Riki and Evan were, so to speak, the owners of the store.
"Can I say that you are very inconsiderate for rejecting such a beautiful and talented girl?" said Evan.
Riki clicked his tongue in annoyance, "I know I’m inconsiderate! But feelings can’t be forced!"
Evan sighed heavily, "So, you liked Liz from the start, huh? I still remember, before you dated Hannah, you said she was the most beautiful girl you’d ever seen. I thought you were talking about Angeline, but it turned out to be Liz... I was surprised at the time."
Riki looked at Evan with an incredulous expression, "So you think Liz isn’t beautiful? Just because she was chubbier back then, she was still beautiful!"
"I didn’t say she was ugly! Oh my god... but yeah—maybe we have different tastes, Riki. Liz looks like a Barbie doll, while Angeline looks like a ball jointed doll, you know what I mean, right?"
"It’s just their makeup, Evan. Liz would look like that if she wore the same kind of makeup."
Evan furrowed his brow, "Really?"
Riki sighed irritably, "Never mind. I’m going to meet Jake for a bit, I’m leaving!"
"Let’s have dinner together later, Riki!"
"Okay!" Riki replied, continuing to walk out of the office.
Unfortunately, when Riki left the store, it suddenly started to drizzle.
He hurriedly got into his car.
[Your second mission today is to stop someone who intends to commit suicide on the roof of your office building]
Riki furrowed his brow upon hearing his new mission. Who in their right mind would go to an office building just to commit suicide? They must be completely insane.
[Make sure to calm him down, because he got some talent in business]
[If you succeed, you will receive a randomly selected reward, which is an A-level reward]
[If you fail the mission, your office building will have a bad reputation, resulting in a significant decrease in value]
Riki knew the mission wasn’t too difficult, but why did the punishment for failure make him so annoyed?
Riki was just an ordinary human being who could make mistakes.
[That’s a normal punishment, because if someone commits suicide in that building, then the office building will have bad news in the articles, you wouldn’t want that as the building owner, would you?]
Well, that makes sense.
Riki had arrived in front of the building.
The people inside the building certainly recognized who Riki was, after Andre had made an unnecessary commotion earlier.
They put on their big smiles, greeting Riki warmly, but Riki walked quickly. He was in a hurry to get to the roof of the building.
He hoped he wasn’t too late to stop the person from committing suicide.
However, the women who saw him didn’t lose their smiles.
The very handsome Riki looked radiant in their eyes.
"The owner of this building is so handsome!"
"Why is he in such a hurry? I want to see his handsome face longer."
"Come on, you guys, you’re too old for the building owner!"
"What’s wrong with fantasizing? It’s free!"
Meanwhile, Riki quickly reached the roof of the building. He used a special elevator, so he didn’t have to share it with other employees.
However, when he arrived at the roof, Riki was confused. There was no one there.
Don’t tell him that he was late...
Suddenly, someone came and bumped into Riki’s shoulder, but he seem didn’t even notice.
Riki really wanted to reprimand the man, but he immediately changed his mind after seeing the man’s back.
It looked like he was carrying a heavy load on his back.
But it seemed like he recognized the man. He looked like his senior from high school, who was also the student council president. A kind, smart young man with many friends.
Riki hadn’t heard from him since college, but—what was the former student council president doing here?
"Jean! Is that you?" shouted Riki, after confirming that the man was his former high school classmate.
However, the man did not turn to Riki at all. He continued walking until he reached the edge of the building’s roof.
Riki walked quickly, approaching the man, Jean.
When Riki pulled Jean’s shoulder, he could see empty eyes staring back at him.
Jean pushed Riki’s hand away, then turned back and was about to jump.
"JEAN! STOP!"
Riki grabbed the man’s shoulder again. Fortunately, Riki was stronger than him. Riki tried to shake the man’s shoulder to wake him up.
"Hey, Jean! Wake up!"
Slowly, Jean raised his gaze and looked at Riki with eyes full of sadness.
"Oh, it’s you, Riki, isn’t it? Let go of me and just let me die."
"No!"
Riki dragged Jean away from the edge of the building’s roof.
"This is my building, I won’t let anyone kill themselves foolishly here. If you have a problem, try talking to your friends!"
Suddenly, Jean rebelled, trying to run back to the edge of the building’s roof.
Riki, who was impatient, pulled Jean with all his might, then hit him.
Jean fell silent after being hit, then slumped down and sat on the floor.
He couldn’t even shed a tear or show any anger. He was completely devastated.
"Jean... please listen to me."
"I’m sorry, Riki!"
Riki was very confused by this sudden apology.
"What?"
"I used to underestimate your problems in high school. And now, karma has caught up with me. My family is destroyed. My parents are divorced, and my mother left with her new husband. My father drinks heavily and is in a lot of debt. The friends I thought would help me immediately distanced themselves when they found out I had problems. My girlfriend ran away with her lover after trapping me with bank debt. My mother also suddenly called me, saying she needed money for a vacation with her new husband. Meanwhile, today, I was suddenly framed and then fired by my boss. So, who should I talk to about my problems, Riki? I have no one now! Let me die in peace!"
Riki fell silent.
He saw the same despair he once felt.
Before he got the system.
Jean might not be as lucky as Riki, but...
"You still have me, Jean. Consider this my way of repaying you for always helping me when I was bullied at school."
Jean laughed weakly, "Riki, I was the student council president back then. It was normal for me to help you."
Riki shook his head, "You needed a rich friend to help you, right, buddy? And I was that friend. Come on, get up and go to my office. We’ll talk about everything properly, okay? I might have a job for you too, because I happen to need a lot of workers. So, this isn’t just free help."
Jean, who didn’t like being pitied, felt relieved to hear Riki’s words.
They went downstairs to the office where Jake was.
"Oh my God, boss! You’re soaking wet!" Jake shouted after seeing Riki and Jean. Their clothes were wet because it was drizzling outside.
"Quickly get some clean towels for the boss! Take two! If there are any clothes, take those too," Jake shouted again.
Riki chuckled at Jake and the other employees who were so panicked.
"Calm down, Jake, I’m fine. No need to panic like that," said Riki.
"How can I not panic seeing my boss—oh, isn’t this an employee from the office below?" Jake finally turned to Jean.
Jean smiled awkwardly, confused about what to do, so he just stood there and smiled slightly.
"Yeah, he just got fired, and this is a good coincidence, we can hire him," said Riki.
Hearing that, Jake and the employees there were shocked.
How could their boss immediately hire someone who had just been fired?
"I know you’re confused, but Jean was just framed and... I really believe in his abilities. He has extraordinary talent, I’m sure of it."
Hearing this, Jean was deeply moved. It turned out that someone who used to be so small and fragile had now become someone so great, with a generous heart, and he even believed in Jean.
In fact, they hadn’t seen each other in a long time.
"Why do you trust me so much? What if I get fired because my skills are poor?" Jean muttered.
"This is not the time for that. Just prove your abilities, and then you’ll have the money to fix your messy life. As you know, I also had the same difficulties as you in the past. But I wouldn’t be like this without help. So don’t be shy, buddy... just take the good opportunity given to you, don’t waste it."
Riki’s words not only moved Jean, but also made the other employees look at Riki with happy expressions.
They were happy that their boss turned out to be a good person.
Despite their boss being very young, Riki was a good person, not arrogant and tyrannical like their image of other young people with a lot of money.
"Then, I’ll take the job here, Boss Riki! I’ll do my best and won’t disappoint you," said Jean, sounding more enthusiastic than before.
At least, Riki could see a glimmer of life there. There was no longer a Jean who wanted to kill himself.
