CHAPTER 454: CHAPTER 286: THIS DAMN SIDE EFFECT, YOU AND I CANNOT COEXIST!
The bell signaling the end of lunch break rang, and students who had returned to their dorms for a midday rest came out of the dormitory building and headed towards their classrooms.
Zhou Baowei and Bai Bufan happened to run into Lin Li, who was fetching water, in the corridor.
On the way back together, Lin Li patted Zhou Baowei on the shoulder, wiping some water on him as he asked with concern, "Bao Wei, is your ’Chu Yuqun’ still uncomfortable?"
"My ’Chu Yu’..." Zhou Baowei repeated before realizing, then said helplessly, "Just say stomach if you mean stomach! What’s with ’Chu Yuqun’?"
"It’s not called stomach, it’s called Chu Yuqun." Bai Bufan chimed in with a laugh.
Zhou Baowei: "..."
"Well, stomach it is, but how is it? Feeling any better?" Lin Li didn’t mind.
"Feeling better... maybe? A nap helped a bit, but only a little. It still hurts quite a bit now, probably will take another day or two." Zhou Baowei sighed, shaking his head then nodding.
"The medicine I left in your drawer, remember to take it later." Lin Li patted him again.
"Huh? What medicine? You mean for the stomach?" Zhou Baowei asked in confusion when he heard this.
"Yeah, I bought some specially for you." Lin Li nodded indifferently.
"You went out to buy it during lunch?"
"Yeah."
"What the... You’re so considerate, how much was it? I’ll give you the money later."
Zhou Baowei raised an eyebrow, seemingly getting to know Lin Li all over again, and instead of refusing the kindness, he asked.
"My Brother Fu doesn’t care about those meager bucks in your pocket anymore, plus I bought it without asking you in the first place, so don’t worry about paying." Lin Li waved his hand.
Buying without asking and then demanding money for it would be no different from robbery.
"Then I won’t be polite, thanks." Zhou Baowei was quite moved, vowing never to drop a ’Taishan meteorite’ on Lin Li again.
Actually, Zhou Baowei wasn’t poor—he had more money than Lin Li’s entire life—19.5 yuan.
Bear in mind, Lin Li was only 18, and 19.5 is greater than 18.
"Just trust it, buddy." Lin Li waved his hand.
"By the way, Lin Li, did you buy Chinese medicine or Western medicine?" Zhou Baowei suddenly thought of something and asked.
"Why do you ask? Haven’t you heard the saying, ’It doesn’t matter if it’s a black hackee or white hackee, as long as it can catch Chen Rui, it’s a good hackee.’"
"Mainly, I don’t really like Chinese medicine." Zhou Baowei shook his head.
"What do you mean? Are you worshipping foreign stuff?" Lin Li immediately made it a big deal.
"I think it’s because it’s bitter. I don’t like Chinese medicine either. I once drank Chinese medicine for a week to adjust my intestines, and even though it was only a week, I felt like the smell stuck with me the whole month."
Bai Bufan agreed with Zhou Baowei, making a bitter face, nodding in serious agreement.
"My reason for disliking Chinese medicine is a bit different." Zhou Baowei shook his head, showing a somewhat sad expression.
"Oh, do tell?"
"I used to see Chinese medicine through rose-colored glasses, thinking it was profound. Then once, to adjust my health, my mom bought me Chinese medicine, and when I opened it, there were cockroaches inside the medicine bag, but I remembered that cockroaches were medicine ingredients?"
"Yeah, I think they’re called Eupolyphaga, and they’re not just used in Chinese medicine, Western medicine uses them too. That ’Kangfuxin Liquid’ is made using extract of American cockroaches." Lin Li nodded, explaining.
"So that’s why you find Chinese medicine disgusting?" Bai Bufan asked.
"No, I just thought it was even more profound, so I didn’t think much of it at the time and just drank it."
"And then?"
"Damn it, I found no cockroaches in the second pack." Zhou Baowei gritted his teeth as he said this.
"Since then, I’ve hated Chinese medicine."
His words were decisive.
Lin Li, Bai Bufan: "..."
This definitely wasn’t about preferring foreign things; this hate was reasonable, justified, and struck dead center.
The three of them returned to the classroom together.
And Zhou Baowei took out the medicine Lin Li bought for him from his drawer.
Praised Lin Li too soon, this cheapskate only bought a single pill.
No wonder he didn’t want my money.
How could anyone feel comfortable taking it?
"Lin Li, wasn’t this free from a drugstore promotion or something? Free from scanning a code?" Zhou Baowei therefore had reason to suspect.
"No, this medicine is expensive, forty bucks a piece. Don’t look down on it."
But Lin Li, feeling wronged, retorted sadly.
"What the heck? How much? Forty bucks a piece? That’s daylight robbery!" Zhou Baowei’s eyes widened.
Not being a rich person, he couldn’t accept this price. He picked up the pill and looked at its name on the back, reading it aloud.
"Sildenafil Citrate Tablet."
"What’s this drug? Never heard of it?" Zhou Baowei, not sensitive to drug names, asked in confusion after reading it.
To which Bai Bufan replied: "(;☉_☉)?"
What did I just hear?
After a brief moment of shock, Bai Bufan turned his questioning eyes to Zhou Baowei, "Read that again, isn’t that the name for Viagra?"
Zhou Baowei: "(;☉_☉)?"
"What Viagra?" Zhou Baowei asked tentatively.
"It’s exactly what you’re thinking now but can’t believe—Viagra."
After getting a clearer look at the drug’s name, Bai Bufan nodded heavily at Zhou Baowei, "Yeah, that’s it."
Then two of them simultaneously turned their eyes toward Lin Li.
Faced with their deadly stares, Lin Li spread his hands innocently:
"Just take it easy, Bao Wei."
"At noon, I went to the pharmacy and told the doctor to give me something for stomach health, and she gave me this on the spot, saying one pill would be effective, and that I absolutely shouldn’t take more.
So you can just toss it in your mouth and chew it; I’m guessing it must be some impressive special-effect drug."
Bai Bufan, Zhou Baowei: "..."
"That’s for erectile dysfunction, not stomach health! How can I trust this?! Taking this is really unsettling! Something’s bound to go wrong!" Zhou Baowei shouted, then rubbed his stomach, "Ugh, I’m so annoyed my stomach feels even worse."
