“It didn’t take you long to find a recement for poor Yorick, did it, Cyra?” Megan asks with a sneer as she walks up to the table.

Her hand snakes out, reaching for Hacker’s note. I fork ms down on the note, just missing Megan’s hand.

“Careful, Megan. That’s a good way to lose your fingers,” Piper growls.

“You’re a fucking bitch,” Megan growls at her.

“Don’t be jealous just because I’m getting fucked by a hot guy and ino /ione wants to touch your skanky pussy,” Piper says, sneering at her.

I’m not the only one who snorts, trying to hold back augh.

Megan growls and turns, stomping away.

“You’re so fucking hot,” Zach tells her as we watch Megan go. Piper has just pulled the fork out of the table when all hell breaks loose. What looks like a SWAT team sts through the doors of the dining hall, carrying guns and wearing bullet proof vests.

We all stand, ready to fight if this is an attack.

“Who the hell are they?” I murmur.

“They’re you in a couple of years,” Tracker says, materializing out of no where.

“They’re previous Academy graduates?” Chase asks.

“Yes. This group is part of the elite warriors, they’re specialty fighters, an extraction team. They’ve been sent by the Council to find Alpha Leo and bring him ini,/ii” /ishe says quietly.

Arge man strides in behind the others who are now going around the room, checking every door, looking at every single one of us and periodically shouting ‘clear‘

I feel Tracker go rigid beside me, and her hands clench into fists.

“Tracker?” I ask softly. Her eyes are glued to the man who just walked in. When I look, his eyes are ck, and his gaze is focused on Tracker.

The man drags his gaze away from Tracker and looks at the room. “My name is Raptor. This is my team. We’re looking for Alpha Leo. Have any of you seen him?” The man oozes confidence and authority. He’s definitely an Alpha.

“Even the warriors have nicknames,” Zach says behind me,

“Anonymity,” Tracker murmurs. She hasn’t looked away from the man. His eyes keep ncing back at her.

“You’re wee,” Zach says smugly to our group.

“What is the meaning of this?” Alpha Leo asks, stomping into the dining hall. Alpha Nevaeh and the other warrior instructors are right behind him. Alpha Nevaeh looks around the room/ensuring none of us are injured.

“Target acquired,” Raptor says, into what looks like a walkie–talkie on his shoulder before he grabs Alpha Leo by the arm, spinning him

around and pressing him against the wall, wrenching his arm behind his back. He presses a leg between Alpha Leo’s and uses his body to hold a now infuriated Alpha Leo against the wall.

“GET OFF MEIL TRAINED YOU, YOU PUPI” Alpha Leo screams.

“Raptor, what is this about?” Alpha Nevaeh asks.

“Alpha Leo, you are under arrest for suspicion of taking bribes and allowing ineligible students into the Academy. The Council requests your appearance in court on Monday morning and has requested that you be remanded into custody,” Raptor says, as one of his warriorses over to pat Alpha Leo down, removing his belongings from his pockets before securing his wrists behind his back.

“Oh Leo, tell me you didn’t do this,” Alpha Nevaeh says.

“Intrigue, Fury, get him in the truck,” Raptormands, which Alpha Leo begins screaming obscenities at him.

I watch two warriors step forward, each grabbing one of Alpha Leo’s arms before Raptor steps back, letting them take a furious, cursing bAlpha /bLeo out of the building.

“Alpha Nevaeh, by order of the Council, the Academy is yours,” he says, turning to the room. “MOVE OUT!”

The group of warriors begins walking out of the room. The man looks at Tracker who hasn’t so much as flinched while all of this has bbeen /bgoing on. He nods his head indicating that she should follow him. It’s like she’s been released from stasis and she walks across the roomb, /bbthe /btwo of them stepping out of the dining hall together.

The rest of us stare at Alpha Nevaeh.

“Alright everyone. I know this has been quite disruptive, but please finish your breakfast and go about your weekend as nned. We will get to the bottom of thisi,” /ishe says, looking at all of us before turning and walking out, the other instructors following close behind her.

“Holy shit!” Landon says as the room breaks into excited conversation, everyone talking about what just happened.

1 grab my phone but before I can call Yorick to tell him what just happened, my phone rings. I smile when his name pops up on my screen.

“You’ll never guess what just happened,” I say as I answer.

“I’ve got news too, you first.”

I tell him what happened and about Alpha Leo’s arrest.

“What’s your news?” I ask him.

‘Wendy. My office. Now.‘ Connor’s voice floats into my head. He never barks at me or anyone, so his tense tone has me on edge. Since Hijack gave me the head’s up and Hacker also sent me a chat message letting me know I would be called into court, I have ba /bgood idea what this is about. I was hoping to have a chance to tell Connor and my Dad myself, but apparently things are moving faster than bI /banticipated.

When I knock ion /iiConnor’s /idoor, Yorick opens it, smiling and winking at me.

I do, looking at Connor who has a very strained look on his face. He nods at the chair in front of him, indicating that I should sitb. /bHe’s bleaning /bagainst his desk with his arms crossed over his chest.

I’ve only talked to Tracker once, but she said the most important thing to remember when you’re being asked questions is toe across bas /bconfident. If you sound confident, people will believe you. If you stutter over your answers, they’ll wonder if you’re lying and trying bto /bbhide /bsomething.

“After I realized that Jory shouldn’t have been admitted, I started looking at who is included in the selectionmitteeb, /band I discovered that Alpha Leo was the head of thatmittee and the final decision on all students who are admitted to the Academy. I began looking into bAlpha /bLeo, but I ran into a firewall that I couldn’t get past.”

The part about looking into Alpha Leo and hitting the firewall came from Hijack. He told me what to say and no one, other than me and the Tech Team, know that he did all the searching. He started it on myputer to give him the “lead” he needed to get the information bhe /bwas looking for quickly.

Connor stares at me for a long moment. “I’ve already called Dad. He and Mom are on their way home now. Kennedy is making arrangements for her and Quirin to be away from the pack and have the pups watched for several days. They’ll be here tomorrowi,/ii” /ihe begins.

“Why?” I ask.

“Why? Because you are going in front of the Council, Wendy. I’m not sure you understand how serious this is.”

“But I didn’t do anything wrong,” I say, getting nervous for the first time. Tracker, Hacker, and Hijack made it sound like this wasn’t a huge deal. My brother makes it sound like I’ll be fighting for my freedom..

Connores and crouches down in front of me. “We will be there to support you. Henry, Alpha Harold, and Luna Farrah areing btoo/b. You’re underage and we want to make sure you’re safe.”

“You can handle yourself, Yorick,” Connor says.

“So can I, Connor! I’m not a child. I know I’m not an adult yet, but I will be soon, and I n to attend this Academy. If I do, there’s the possibility that this could be my life. And honestly, I like the sound of that,” I tell him.

“I told her she might rival Kennedy as the smartest Hill,” Yorick says proudly.

“Goddess, I feel like Dad, but you’re growing up so quickly, Wendy.” He sighs. “I know you’re strong, I know you’re smart. I just want you to be prepared.”

“I will be,” I tell him.

We talk a little bit more and then Connor says we’ll talk more when Mom and Dad return from Quirin and Kennedy’s bpack/bb. /bbApparently/bb, /bbthey’re /bbringing my sisters and brother and the whole group ising with us on Monday.

When I get back to my room, I pull up my chat with Hacker.

I stare at his words, taking deep breaths as I try to calm myself.

‘Then trust me that I’m not going to let anything happen in the Council meeting. You did nothing illegal. Hijack has triple checked bthe /bwork he did on yourputer to make sure nothing will look bad for you. And like I said, don’t be surprised if the Council assures byour /bbspot /bat the Academy because of this. They’ll want you on our side when they realize how good you are already?

‘Thanks, Hacker,‘ I say, finally feeling like I can breathe again.

‘You’re wee, my Padawan. Now, what asshole was your brother talking about that I need to look into?” he asks. I swear I can hear bthe /bpossessive growl in his tone.

‘Ever heard of Alpha Lane?‘ I ask, smiling.

I burst outughing when I get the snarling wolf emoji.
