bChapter /bb269 /b

    Yorick

bI /bbcan /bfeel that Cyra wants to take the lead, so I sit back.

“When Alpha Sten came to the Academy to force his mark on me, he made ament about putting ba /bpup in me bat /bbthe /bsame time, che begins and Dr. Walker snorts.

b“/bWell, that would have been impossible. You are on birth control. I thought he knew that.”

“He said he reced it with a cebo,” she says.

“Impossible, I did the injections. How could he have… son of a bitch,” he snarls, standing up. I’m up and standing between him and bmy /bmother and mate in an instant.

He jolts, looking at me, then looking behind me. “You think I did it?” he asks.

    “Did you?” I growl.

He scrubs his face with his hands. “We’ve had an influx of unwanted pregnancies in the packtely. I’ve been trying to figure out why it keeps happening. With younger mothers, it isn’t as big of a deal, but with the older she–wolves, the ones who have already had their pups, it has put them at higher risk. I have several she–wolves right now that are borderline high risk because of their age. I’d have to confirm, but I believe ball /b

of them were on the hormone imnts.”

I turn and look at my mother. This is getting into her territory.

“How long has this been happening?” she asks.

He turns and looks around the office, finding what he was looking for. “There are four of them, all of them have turned up pregnant in thest three to four weeks,” he says, grabbing some files and handing them to my mother. “I am a doctor! I would never go against my Hippocratic oath,” he growls.

“That’s good to hear,” my mother says, quickly looking through the files. “All four of these women were on hormone imnts,” she says, looking up at me. “Can you get Kennedy for me?”

I reach out in the mind link for my sister. In the past, connecting to my family link was easier than other links. Now, as an Alpha of my own pack, I find that it’s not as easy as it was before. She’s a leader in a separate pack. I still have the connection to her, but my connections to my pack are now as strong as my family connections.

‘Kennedy, can youe to the office?‘

    ‘Be right there,’ she says.

“Who is the manufacturer of these imnts?” my mother asks as she goes through the files.

As she and Dr. Walker talk, I open the door for Kennedy.

    “What’s up?”

“Kennedy, this is Dr. Walker. Dr. Walker, my daughter Kennedy. She’s a medical student. Ken, can you go with Dr. Walker to get the…pment of hormone imnts that he’s been using and test them to see if they are cebos?”

“I take it you weren’t aware of the cebo issue, doctor?” she asks him.

    b“/bbI /bbwas /bbnot/b, bhe /bbgrowls/b. b“/bbBut /bit bexins /ba lot.”

    bDid /bbSten /bbhave /bess bto /bbthe /bpack hospital?b” /bbmy /bmother asks.

b“/bbNo. /bHe would have bno /breason to be here and I don’t allow just anyone to wander around my hospitalb,/bb” /bhe says.

b“/bThat’s good to know. You and I will get along well, doctor,” my mother says, smiling up at him.

b“/bI’ve heard a lot about you, Dr. Hill. It would be my honor to work with you while your mate is here helping to manage bour /bbpack/b,” he saysi, /i

“Pleaseb, /bcall me Yara,” she says, instantly charming the doctor.

“Then you must call me, Kevin,” he says, before walking out with Kennedy.

“So, how could he have exchanged these imnts for cebos, mom?” I ask.

She shrugs, still looking through the files. “The distributor, the delivery person, there are numerous ways he could have switched out bthe /bimnts. We’ll have to report this to the Council. They’ll want to know why we’re seeing a spike in high–risk pregnancies, but it’s good that ri be here. We all know the rule in my hospital,” she says, smiling as she sets the paperwork down and stands.

“What rule is that?” Cyra asks as she stands.

“No one dies in my hospital,” Mom says. “Now, let’s go get your bloodwork done. With this many unwanted pregnancies in the pack, we bneed /bto be sure.”

We follow my mother to a medical room where she begins looking around, “Let me go find what I need. You two getfortable. I’ll be right back,” she says, stepping out again.

“No matter what happens, no matter if you are or aren’t pregnant, we face the future together,” I say to my mate.

She smiles and leans into me. “I’m not going to lie, I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed by everything that is happening all at once. But if my choices are to have you and be overwhelmed by life, or to not have you and feel settled, I choose youb, /ball day, every day.”

“And I will always stand by your side, working with you to ovee whatever obstaclese our way,” I say, leaning in to kiss her.

I’ve just started deepening the kiss when the door opens and my mother walks in with Dr. Walker and Kennedy.

“What tests did you want me to run on these mother?” Kennedy asks.

“Have a seat on the table, Cyra,i” /imy mother says before answering Kennedy that she wants to test the level of hormones in the remaining

    boxes of imnts.

My motheres over and begins preparing Cyra’s arm to draw blood.

“Luna Kennedy, perhaps I should run the tests. I know your mother said you’re a medical student, but you’re awfully young for this sort of test,” Dr. Walker says, making me smile.

“I graduated high school with a double major in college, Dr. Walker. I’m currently in my third year of graduate school,” Kennedy tells bhim/b.

“But you’re so young,” he says, frowning at her.

She shrugs. “I grew up in my mother’s hospital.”

“She’d be done with school already if her mate wasn’t so passionate,” my mother murmurs.

I look up at Kennedy who smiles at me. She holds her hand up to Dr. Walker to stay silent and I send Cyra a mind link to stay quiet as well,

Sometimes, you learn more from my mother’s mumblings than you do from the words the intentionally speaks

“Yorick is his father’s son, so it’s much more likely that Cyra is pregnant with twins than not pregnant at all,” she mumblis, making Cyrai eyes go wide.

“Of course, if he’s as passionate as Quirin, poor Cyra could be pregnant with quads. Well, Kennedy figured it out and still want to schont. I’m sure Cyra could figure it out too. And of course, she has the most amazing man in the world helping her to seed. Goddess, Enve that man

“Who is the most amazing man in the world, Mom?” Kennedy asks, grinning.

Our mother looks up. “Oh, did I say that out loud? I was just thinking of your father.”

“We’ll have to agree to disagree about who the most amazing man in the world is,” Kennedy says, making my mother smile as she pulls the

    needle from Cyra’s arm.

“Yes, we will,” my mate says, her eyes glimmering with possessiveness as she looks at me,

“Let me process this blood and I’ll be right back,” my mother says, but I don’t look away from my mate.

I hear the others leave and when the door closes, Cyra speaks.

    “Quads?”

“Hopefully not. I still have too much fun teasing Quirin about having glitter in his hair.”

    “Twins?” she asks.

“Much more manageable and with my parents around, definitely manageable,” I growl, pulling her to me and taking her mouth in a dominant, possessive kiss.

‘If the number of pups is directly rted to my mate’s passion, we’ll be lucky to only have quads,’ Rina purrs in our mind, making Thad grow! possessively and deepen the kiss even more.
