CHAPTER 50: CHAPTER 50: THE WAY SHE LOVES [1]

’What do you mean?’

Evelyn asked, taking a step forward.

"What’s wrong, Evelyn?"

Kael noticed her strange reaction, as well as the sudden change in her mood.

He tried to follow the villainess’s gaze, but strangely, he couldn’t see anything.

— Literal meaning.

The little Evelyn replied.

— I believe you’re not so stupid as to not understand what that means.

The villainess pursed her lips, her eyes wavering slightly.

Yes, more than anyone else, she understood that Kael was a mysterious person.

He could be someone who could bring her danger.

But every day she spent with him was a day she felt at ease.

But what if... it really was like what little Evelyn said...?

That there would come a day when the past scenarios repeated themselves?

Was Kael really sincere with her?

Or was it all just a mask, an act?

Would he become like those people, pretending to be kind to her, then hurting her, betraying her, and finally leaving her?

— I don’t know.

Little Evelyn shrugged indifferently.

The mocking smile was still there.

— But you will know everything tomorrow, right?

’Tomorrow...?’

The villainess thought.

Yes, that was right, tomorrow, she would have the answer.

But did Evelyn really want to know the answer?

She didn’t know.

At the moment when her mood was in turmoil, a familiar hand suddenly placed on her shoulder.

"Hey Evelyn, are you okay? Answer me. The ground calls the sky. The earth calls Mars."

Her train of thought was interrupted.

Little Evelyn had also vanished.

Then, she glanced at Kael.

Her eyes were cold. Her face was emotionless.

"I’m fine."

She brushed his hand off her shoulder.

Kael was momentarily stunned, feeling that she had suddenly become more distant.

An unnamed emotion suddenly welled up in his chest.

It was painful beyond description.

"If that’s the case, then... that’s fine."

Even so, he still forced a smile.

"..."

Seeing that forced smile, Evelyn couldn’t help but feel a pang of pain in her heart.

***

The next afternoon, the entire academy, no, the entire empire was in an uproar.

— BREAKING NEWS!

— An Artifact was found in the dormitory room of the young lady of the Faelan family!

— And even more surprisingly, traces of her magic were on it!

— There is a high possibility that Sarah Faelan is the culprit of this attack on the academy.

— At noon today, the royal special security team took her away!

— The Faelan family cannot escape this grave crime either!

In the entire history of the empire, there had never been any precedent like this.

But, that was not what Evelyn cared about.

What she paid the most attention to, what she could not take her eyes off, was that on that Artifact, only traces of Sarah’s magic were found.

’But why? I thought Kael was the last one to use it?’

Millions of such questions continuously appeared in her mind.

Causing her brain to be severely tortured.

It was getting overloaded.

Closing the newspaper, the villainess turned her gaze to Kael, who was walking towards her with a cup of hot milk in his hand.

"See? I told you our plan would work."

He said, smiling brightly, placing the cup of hot milk on the table.

"Drink it before it gets cold."

The villainess looked at the cup containing the white liquid inside.

A moment later, her lips opened.

"Thank you."

A short sentence.

"..."

There were no more words after that.

What could Evelyn say?

Her emotions were in a mess. Like a pot of pig slop.

Who was Kael, after all?

What was his purpose in approaching her?

Did he really like her?

Why did he care for her so much?

Why... did he give her something called hope?

’No.’

Evelyn thought, her crimson eyes becoming even more lifeless.

She had suffered too much from the people she thought would treat her well.

Humans were treacherous creatures.

The villainess didn’t want to experience such emotions again.

She didn’t want to taste hope, only to end up in despair.

Evelyn wanted confirmation.

She wanted to know if Kael truly loved her the way she loved him.

Or was he like those people, only approaching her for her own benefit, then discarding her when her usefulness was gone.

And to do that, she needed a test.

So...

"Kael, come here."

Her voice was cold and creepy.

It wasn’t an invitation, but a command.

He was slightly taken aback, but still did as she said.

He sat down, keeping a certain distance from the villainess.

But he still couldn’t help but steal glances at her frequently.

Evelyn didn’t care about that.

She continued:

"Sit still."

Kael did as he was told, obedient as a dog.

To be honest, he was quite looking forward to it.

The villainess quietly moved closer to him, closing the distance between them.

"Gulp."

The scent of her perfume hit his nose.

Normally, Kael hated people who wore perfume, because he hated its strong scent.

But Evelyn’s perfume was different.

It was comfortable, pleasant, and serene.

It made him feel like he was on cloud nine.

It was the scent of jasmine.

Kael’s eyes became hazy.

"Gulp."

His mind was filled with the image of Evelyn... and only Evelyn.

Ba-dump! Ba-dump! Ba-dump! Ba-dump!

At this moment, his heart was beating erratically.

As if it wanted to jump out of Kael’s chest.

A sprout was growing, at a speed faster than light.

At this moment, the world was just him and Evelyn, no other people, no other sounds, nothing else.

He felt so satisfied.

With everything.

The villainess’s three fingers were placed on his chest, then used a little force to push Kael down.

He had fallen, lying on the couch.

Evelyn continued, this time sitting on Kael’s stomach.

A suspicious position.

"..."

"..."

Silence enveloped both of them.

He lay still, motionless, letting her do whatever she wanted.

His eyes could not leave them.

That gorgeous face.

Those ruby eyes, sharp, keen, expressionless and cold.

And those red lips.

Only at this point could he confirm his own feelings.

’I like Evelyn Evernight...’

Kael smiled, completely unaware of the villainess’s feelings.

Just like that, his eyes closed, looking forward to what would happen next.

But what happened after was truly beyond his understanding.

...

Suddenly, Kael felt his neck turn cold.

It felt as if it was coming into contact with ice blocks that had been brought straight from the South Pole.

It made his body shiver with cold.

"Eh...?"

Bewildered, Kael opened his eyes.

Only to meet Evelyn’s cold gazes.

So lifeless that it was terrifying.

But, hidden deep within those eyes, so deep that perhaps even Evelyn didn’t realize it, he saw suffering.

It was definitely the eyes of someone who had experienced too much tragedy.

Seeing the villainess like this, his heart couldn’t help but feel a sharp pain.

Why did she have such eyes?

What had happened to her in the past?

No! That wasn’t important right now!

He wanted to hold her in his arms, wanted to comfort her with everything he had.

Kael didn’t need Evelyn to be a cheerful person.

For him, just being able to dispel the sadness in those eyes was more than enough.

But the problem was... his body really couldn’t move anymore.

This was... magic?

Unbelievable, but mostly worried, Kael looked straight at the villainess.

"...Why?"

She also looked straight into his eyes.

Her two ice-cold hands placed themselves on his neck, then squeezed it gently.

It was hard to breathe.

"...Do you remember what you said the first time we met? That you loved me."

"..."

"Now, I want to confirm it."

Her eyes were crazy, sick.

But ironically, Kael did not hate them at all.

"Do you really love me?"

She asked.

Wow.

A corrupted person now trying to corrupt another?

How ridiculous.
