CHAPTER 106: CHAPTER 106: PERSISTENT HIGH FEVER

He frantically reached out to touch her face, it was so hot.

"Sean, Sean, quickly, to the hospital."

He picked up Serena and walked towards the car.

Slowly, he felt that the person in his arms was like a ball of fire.

Serena’s little face was flushed red.

Sean navigated to the nearest hospital, and Elias hurriedly carried Serena out of the car and ran into the hospital.

"Doctor, please take a look, what’s wrong with my wife!"

After a diagnosis, "It’s nothing serious, caught a cold and fever from being in the rain."

Elias breathed a sigh of relief, "Thank you, doctor!"

In the ward, a nurse was giving Serena an injection, and a pained expression appeared on Serena’s face,

The man frowned and gently comforted her, "Baby, be good, it’ll be over soon."

He kissed her hand softly.

Before long.

Brandon and the others gradually arrived.

"Is sister-in-law alright?"

Elias nodded, "She’s fine. She had a fever, the injection will take care of it."

Brandon nodded, "Alright, I’ll take Nathan back first."

After they left, Sean brought clean clothes.

Elias fetched water, wiped Serena’s body, and changed her into clean clothes.

Serena slept until the afternoon of the next day. The fever subsided and with enough sleep, she felt revitalized.

"Baby, are you feeling better?"

Serena opened her eyes to see Elias looking disheveled, his hair a mess and his clothes dirty and muddy.

But her own body felt clean and comfortable.

A sudden pang of heartache hit her. Elias, usually so dignified and aloof, had never looked this disheveled before. Serena raised her hand.

She gently pushed back the messy hair from his forehead and smoothed out the creases in his clothes, "Elias, thank you for your hard work! Go and wash up."

"I’m alright, as long as you’re okay," Elias tenderly held Serena’s little hand.

Serena’s eyes turned red, "Go and freshen up, please."

Elias truly treated her well; he cherished her with all his heart, loved her to his core.

After he finished washing and changed into clean clothes, upon returning to the ward, Serena had fallen asleep again.

Having been through a restless night, Elias was exhausted, but he just couldn’t fall asleep.

Every time he thought about what would have happened had she not gotten out of the car, or if she had, and a mudslide occurred.

Just thinking about the possible scenarios where he might never see her again left his heart in turmoil.

He sat by the hospital bed, his gaze fixed on her.

He didn’t know how much time passed.

"Cold, Elias, I’m so cold." Serena murmured in her sleep, prompting Elias to immediately check on her, reaching out to touch.

"Baby, your fever has come back up!"

He promptly pressed the call button.

The doctor checked her and instructed the nurse to bring fever-reducing medication.

He softly called out, "Baby, wake up, it’s time to take your medicine."

"No, I’m so cold and sleepy." Serena mumbled in refusal, her voice hoarse beyond recognition.

"Baby, if you don’t take your medicine, the fever won’t go down." Elias patiently coaxed her, but to no avail.

Elias was extremely anxious.

Finally, he took the fever medicine in his own mouth, bent down and kissed her lips, transferring the medicine into her mouth.

"Mmm... bitter." Serena tried to open her eyes but couldn’t.

Upon hearing her complain about the bitterness, Elias quickly took a mouthful of water and bent down to feed her, "Baby, drink the water, it won’t be bitter anymore."

Serena furrowed her brows tightly and swallowed the water.

His darling was having repeated bouts of fever, and he kept vigil at her bedside, fearful of any mishap.

After half an hour, he felt her forehead again, still hot.

After another half hour, his hand resumed its position on her forehead, still hot.

No, they must go back.

So, he took out his phone and made a call.

Theodore Lynch had just arrived at the hospital for a round, about to start a meeting.

"Master Lancaster." Theodore answered the phone.

"Have everything ready. I’ll be there in about three hours." Elias said anxiously.

"What’s happened?"

"Serena encountered falling mudslides at the mine site, got caught in the rain and now has a high fever that won’t go down, it just keeps recurring." Elias succinctly explained.

"Alright, I’m arranging it immediately." Theodore hung up the phone, canceled his meeting, and quickly made preparations.

He had seen firsthand how Elias was drawn in; he knew what Serena meant to Elias.

If anything happened to Serena, Master Lancaster would surely go mad.

Elias dared not take Serena home alone, so he had the hospital arrange for a transfer, directly by ambulance, with a doctor on board.

Three hours later.

Theodore was waiting at the hospital entrance, and when the vehicle arrived, he promptly stepped forward, and the doctors and nurses worked together to push her into the ward.

The examination began.

"She took fever medicine, and had an injection, but the fever just won’t break."

Elias followed the hospital bed into the ward.

The doctor instructed the nurse to draw blood for testing, and after a series of checks, started her on a new IV.

Half an hour later, Serena started to sweat.

Theodore breathed a sigh of relief,

Elias also let out a breath of relief, turned around to fetch a towel to wipe her sweat, completely ignoring everyone else.

Theodore took care of the follow-up, glanced at them, then went to prepare some food.

Until evening, Serena woke up.

Sensing her move, Elias hurriedly asked, "Baby, you’re awake? Are you feeling uncomfortable anywhere?"

"My throat hurts, and I’m so hungry. How long have I been sleeping?"

"You’ve had a fever, it kept coming back; I brought you here. We’re at Theodore’s hospital now." Elias reached out to touch her forehead.

Thankfully, the fever had completely broken.

"Elias, I’m hungry."

"Alright, wait for me a moment." With that, Elias got up and left.

When he returned, he was carrying a thermos. He scooped a bowl of porridge, "Baby, here, have some porridge first." He fed her bit by bit.

Soon, the bowl of porridge was finished.

"Elias, I’m still hungry."

"Alright, have a little more; you haven’t eaten for a while, you can’t have too much at once."

"Okay~" Serena pursed her lips slightly.

"Good girl, baby, when you’re better, whatever you want to eat, hubby will go with you." Elias coaxed her gently.

"Hubby, you’re the best!"

Serena looked up and smiled at Elias.

Having eaten enough, Serena felt much more energetic.

"Baby, is there anywhere that doesn’t feel right?"

Serena shook her head, "Hubby, I want to go home, will you take me home?"
