The Protagonist System
457 Legitimizing Ourselves
I woke up at the break of dawn, like usual, which now that I think of it, how did my body know what version of dawn to use while I was in space? Was it Earth's? How did that work? I had to lightly chuckle at my mind immediately thinking of that instead of wondering if I was inside some kind of game or just in a world based on it.
Then again, did it really matter? Not really. I was here now and I'd deal with things as they cropped up. Whatever came to my attention would have said attention for as long as it was in front of me. Why? Because I didn't have to go looking for trouble in worlds like this. It always came right to me.
I tried to move my arms and sit up, only to feel two things resist my movements. I wasn't a fool to try and feel with my hands, because that was just asking for trouble. I opened my eyes and glanced to the left to see Shera the blonde elf on her side facing me and my arm was tucked between her large breasts with her own arms holding my muscular one in a death grip.
A glance to the right saw Rem the cat-girl, or more accurately the cat-woman, faced me as well and had her own modest chest pressed tightly to my other arm and her fingers were intertwined with my own and were dangerously close to her womanhood. It made me wonder where the blanket was, because they would have had to remove it to put themselves so close to me.
Instead of waking them up, I let out a sigh and closed my eyes again. I had learned a long time ago to be more accommodating to the women in my bed to allow them to choose when we woke up. Even if I wasn't dating either of them, it was only polite to let them wake up first.
Plus, I had to dig through all of the Demon Lord memories I had to try and mitigate my body freezing up each time information came to the forefront of my mind. Avoiding the triggers was not going to work, not if yesterday was any indication.
Then again, I hoped it didn't only work that way, because if the information was locked until I heard a certain keyword or phrase, then I couldn't stop it from happening. I probably had about three hours before they woke up naturally, so I would do my best to find all the appropriate memories if I could.

Celestine Baudelaire woke up in a cold sweat and rolled over to the side of her bed to grab a glass of water. She drank from it greedily and took several deep breaths as she calmed down. Even in her dreams, she could remember the sheer power of the being that Rem Galleu and her friend had summoned.
It had even pushed her down to the table and she could barely resist it, her magic had only mitigated a portion of it and that both scared her and thrilled her. She had always been the most powerful magic user in the area, which was how she rose to become the head of the Mage's Association.
Now she knew there was someone even more powerful than her and she hoped he could be persuaded to join her organization, if only to let someone else spend several hours each day charging the Lightning Tower's power matrix to ensure the magic shield kept protecting the entire city without fail.
She climbed out of bed and went to the bath to rinse off before she dressed in her uniform and left her lavish rooms to go to the central area where the charging runes were located. Her eyes noticed that both of her normal guards had switched and the two new ones looked a little nervous.
It didn't take a genius to figure out that they were worried she would go looking for the man that had scared the other two enough to defecate themselves. Instead of telling them that she was staying in today, mostly for the same reason, she entered the central chamber and prepared to exhaust herself again. She was really starting to hate her duties as the only one strong enough to charge it by herself.

Rem was the first to wake up and she let out a startled cat sound and tried to dislodge her hands from mine as she also tried to shove me away. Since she was barely 5 feet tall and 80 pounds and I was 6 foot 3 and almost 1000 pounds, thanks to my dense molecular structure, she barely rocked me slightly.
“Relax, dear lady. I don't mind being cuddled by such beautiful women.” I whispered and very slowly opened my hand and lifted my arm slightly to allow her to slide back, which she did with a blush.
“You... you... you're awake?” Rem asked, clearly embarrassed, and she had an arm across her breasts to hide them.
“I have been for a while.” I whispered back and didn't look at her chest. “It was quite peaceful and fairly warm, even without the blanket.”
Rem's eyes darted to the foot of the bed and back to my face.
“At least it's not on the floor by your clothes like I suspected.” I said and turned my head away from her to let her get out of bed without me seeing her and I looked right into Shera's eyes. “Good morning.”
“Good morning.” Shera said and didn't try to let my arm go at all.
I glanced down at her bare breasts and back to her face. “We do need to get dressed and then go have breakfast.”
“Food? This early?” Shera asked, surprised.
“It's the best way to start the day.” I told her and she beamed a smile at me.
“I knew you were the most awesome summons I've ever done!” Shera said and hugged my arm tightly, then let it go. We both knew she was very reluctant to do so.
“He's your only summon.” Rem said and she looked much more relaxed with her clothes back on.
“That's what I said.” Shera said and hopped out of my bed and ran over to the other side of the large four poster bed and quickly dressed in almost the same manner as she undressed.
I was sure there was a little magic involved, because it really shouldn't have worked with her stepping into the middle of the pile and pulling it up to reverse what she did to undress. I kept my opinion to myself and climbed out of bed by my clothing and snapped my fingers to switch the air around myself with my clothing on the floor.
Both Rem and Shera gasped at me being instantly dressed. “You have to show us how to do that!”
I chuckled and waved at the door to the room. We left and went down the hall and the stairs to enter the eating area. Mei entered as well and told us what was available, so we ordered a modest breakfast and Shera ate three plates full before Rem and I finished one. I only paid a silver coin this time and we left the inn to walk across the city to the Adventurer's Guild Hall.
As we walked, I noticed more animal people of all different races, Pantherians, Grasswalkers, Dwarves, Elves, and even a few Demons. “I don't see any humans around.”
“That's because this is the block where the demi-humans live.” Rem said.
“Hardly any humans come here.” Shera said.
It made me wonder why there was such animosity between them. Were the humans here so arrogant that they thought they would win against the demi-humans if they rebelled against the class system? They were fools if they thought that. The animal traits alone gave them a huge advantage over a baseline human.
Of course, that made me wonder what they used to register strength in this world. If it was like the few others I had been in, then it was done by levels. It was best to make sure, though. “Does this world measure strength by levels?”
“Yes, by levels.” Shera said and turned her head to look away. “Although, I don't have mine yet.”
Rem turned to look at me. “I'm a level 40 Summoner.” She looked forward again. “The Adventurer's Guild we're heading to has a means to measure your own level.”
“Oh, yeah!” Shera said, excitedly. “The reason I don't have a level is because I haven't registered as an adventurer yet.” She made a fist and looked determined. “I could be a level 40 or 50 when they measure me!”
Rem gave her an indulgent look. “Your level is probably around 10 or so, which is about 10 below average.”
“It is not!” Shera defended herself and jiggled her chest.
“Is too.” Rem said and jiggled her own chest, then she blushed because her top was made to handle her A cups and not her C cups. Her nipples almost popped out and she grabbed her top before it slipped off.
“Allow me.” I said and put a hand on her shoulder to transfigure her top to fit appropriately and gave her support.
Rem sighed with relief and gave me a rare smile.
“Hey! Do me, too!” Shera complained.
I chuckled and put a hand on her shoulder. “Do you want to give up one of your best distractions?”
Shera opened her mouth to say she doesn't do it intentionally, then I changed the top of her dress to have proper support for her large breasts and it stopped her dress from flopping all over when she moved. Only her flesh jiggled inside the confines of the cloth now. She blushed and gave me a knowing look.
“Um... maybe... make it a little looser?” Shera asked softly.
I reduced the tightness and the weight of her breasts pulled on the fabric. She beamed a smile at me for the change, because now she had the best of both worlds. She could exaggerate her movements as a distraction and still have the support her chest needed when running or fighting. I also gave her the same basic body enhancement that I gave Rem last night, just in case, and added her to my party.
“You will adjust quickly to any changes you feel.” I told her and the soft green glow of the command was drowned out because of the bright sunlight, so she didn't notice it.
“Once we're registered at the Guild we can start taking quests and earning money.” Rem said and gave us both a pointed look. “You both need to earn your keep.”
I gave her a pointed look back and her face flushed red with embarrassment as she faced forward again. Shera let out a little giggle and took my arm to hug it, proving her redone top wasn't going to stop her from doing so. She looked quite pleased by that fact, too.
We soon approached a four storey tall building that had sword and shield banners hung all over and no sign anywhere. It confirmed that most citizens in the town couldn't read and we entered. Even this early in the morning, there were dwarves and dog people fighting over something and people drinking and cheering them on.
“I know this is obnoxious; but, things like that happen all the time here.” Rem said and kept walking. “The register for adventurers is on the second floor.”
We followed her up the stairs to a nice and practically empty space. There were several picnic tables for seating, the quest board, and several tellers. Of course, those tellers were large breasted women with dog ears and tails, probably to ensure people enjoyed coming here to register and take quests.
Shera went first and had a difficult time filling in the information on the registration form. She said her answers out loud as she wrote them, which was kind of endearing, because she was doing her best with it and didn't ask one of the workers to fill her information in for her.
I took a form as well and moved almost instantly as I filled in the pertinent information. Name, chosen as Atlas. Place of birth, Skyfall Tower the day before. Chosen profession, adventurer.
“Now then.” The busty dog-girl said as she placed a very sharp dagger on the counter. “To finish up, please place your blood seal on the bottom of the form.”
I could tell the dagger was just a normal one and not magical by any means. Shera looked terrified by it and I chuckled. “Allow me, dear lady.” I said and picked the dagger up and transfigured it into a small needle.
Everyone around me gasped and stared, which seems to be the common reaction. Shera didn't react at all as I poked her finger and I pressed her fingertip to the right spot. I poked my own and touched my form in the right spot, too. Instead of leaving the needle the way it was, I reversed the transfiguration and placed the dagger back onto the counter. It didn't earn another gasp, unfortunately.
“So, next is measuring your level.” The same dog-girl said and led us over to the side of the counter to a full length mirror.
“It's not showing anything.” Shera said, a little disappointed.
“Try touching it with your hand and filling it with magical power.” The dog-girl said.
“Like this?” Shera said and touched it, then hummed as she concentrated and pushed magic into the thing. A slightly faded reflection appeared.
“Wow! That's incredible!” The dog-girl gasped. “Let's see...” She opened a book and looked at it. “The face is clear enough to count your eyelashes and it shows down to your chest. So, your level is...”
“How high? HOW HIGH?!?” Shera asked.
“It's 30!” The dog-girl exclaimed.
“No way!” Shera said and then looked sad. “I lost to Rem?”
Rem sighed. “You were overthinking it if you thought you could beat me on your first day.”
Shera pouted. “I'll surpass you one day!”
The two of them started bickering again and I shook my head at them. Only good friends could argue so much over nothing without taking it personally and still be friends.
“Next person, please.” The dog-girl said.
I nodded and stepped up to the mirror. I had been tempted to present my other Adventurer Card to prove my power, only I was sure they would object to both seeing it and acknowledging its existence. There would be no way for them to prove it wasn't a fake, either.
I reached out and touched the mirror, planning on only putting a small amount of magic into it, only the surface rippled like water and the thing started sparking and glowing blue. The three dog-girl receptionists started screaming, so I pulled my hand away just as a large magic pulse was sent out, almost like a distress signal, then the glow faded.
The sound of running feet could be heard and the back door to the room opened and a quite short rabbit-girl entered. Her barely there white cloth dress fluttered in the wind that her swift movements caused and showed off her tiny white panties. Her small breasts were almost revealed as well before the cloth settled. It made me reconsider if this was a normal world or a partial hentai one.
“What was that wave of magic just now?” The pink-haired rabbit-girl asked.
“G-guildmaster?” The dog-girl serving us asked, her trembling hands let Shera out of the hug and she looked at the magic mirror, at me, and back at the mirror.
The rabbit-girl got the implication right away. “I'm Sylvie, the Guildmaster of the Adventurer's Guild here in Faltra City.” She said and smiled. “Could I have a moment of your time? I'd like to speak to you in private.”
I gave Rem and Shera a look and they nodded, so I nodded as well and we followed the rabbit-girl through the door she entered through and went up the stairs to the next floor and into the Guildmaster's office. The dog-girl that served us entered as well and gave her the two forms we filled out.
“This is the first time the mirror has ever reacted that way before.” Sylvie said as she sat on one of the couches. Her tiny body looked even tinier as she sat alone on the huge piece of furniture. She waved for us to sit and I sat on the opposite couch and Rem sat on my left and Shera on my right. “Honestly, I don't think we can handle you here.”
“Huh? Why is that?” Shera asked.
“I'm sure you're a high level, only I have no idea how high.” Sylvie said as she looked right at me. “Frankly, you're beyond my knowledge, so even if you registered with us, there's no way for me to determine what missions are acceptable for you to take.”
“All of them.” I said and she looked surprised, then she laughed.
“I'm more than happy to register strong people.” Sylvie said and leaned forward. “But, you're much stronger than I am. Can you really accept being ordered around by me?”
I had to glance down at her svelte body after a question like that and I let my eyes linger on her thighs, then on her small chest that suited her, before I met her gaze again and saw her face was flushed red. “I have no problem letting a woman order me around.” I said and let that linger for a moment as all three women around me blushed. “As long as the rewards are paid, I'll do any task that's needed to be done.”
Sylvie let out a little laugh. “You're an interesting guy, Atlas.” She said and stood, then leaned over to reach a hand out to me as her small breasts almost fell out of her dress. “Welcome aboard.”
I didn't need to stand to accept the offered hand, shook it once, then leaned forward and kissed the back of it. She blushed again and stood up straight, then motioned to her desk by the window. She walked over to it and started rifling through the bundles of papers there.
“I don't think there are very many quests that fit your actual abilities, whatever they are at your unknown level.” Sylvie said and stopped when she found one. “Oh? A new quest.” She took it out of the stack and held it up. “This one smells fishy. Do you want to try it?”
On the sheet was a quest to defeat a giant Madara Snake in the Man-Eating Woods.
Rem took it and read it. “They need the eyes for experiments? Are the mages in the Mage's Association insane?”
I gave a look to Sylvie and I did not doubt her words. “I doubt it's about the giant snake; but, we can't find out what it's really about until we go out there to spring the trap.”
Sylvie gave me a bright smile and a nod.
“Have the payout ready for when we come back.” I said and stood. “Rem, Shera, let's prepare for a trip to the Man-Eating Woods.”
“I'll get the trail rations!” Shera said and hopped up to make her large breasts jiggle.
“I'll get us bedrolls and camping gear, in case this takes longer than I think it will.” Rem said and folded the quest notice to put into her small bag. “Let's go.”
