At the same time, the vehicle ahead, part of the escort team, was suddenly struck by a heavy- duty truck and flipped over, nding sideways in the middle of the road, pletely blocking the path forward.
“Miss, there’s a mole in their team!” the driver shouted in panic. He fought to keep the vehicle under control while trying desperately to find ia /iway out; but they were being attacked from both sides, there was no way to escape.
Sloane forced herself to calm down, her mind racing to find a n.
Just then, a bullet tore through the air with a sharp whistle, slicing straight toward their car.
“Watch out!” Sloane dove forward and shoved the driver aside. The bullet shattered the window on the right, grazing her shoulder as it whizzed past.
“Miss!” the driver cried, his voice filled with pain and worry.
Sloane pushed the injured driver out of the way and climbed into the driver’s seat. By now, enemies were closing in from all sides; the situation was rapidly spiraling out of control.
She gripped the steering wheel tightly and mmed down on the gas. The car roared like a wild beast, charging straight toward the overturned vehicle ahead; bullets rained from every direction, punching holes into the car’s body.
Relying on her superb driving skills, Sloane weaved and swerved through the chaos, narrowly dodging iing fire.
Timing it just right, she yanked the wheel hard; the car scraped past the edge of the overturned vehicle and barreled through.
But their pursuers had no intention of letting them go that easily, several cars immediately gave chase.

Sloane noticed there were fewer cars following now. She nced in the rearview mirror–and sure enough, reinforcements from the Kent family had arrived.
Then, up ahead, a sharp curve came into view. Sloane mmed on the brakes; the car skidded across the narrow mountain road, leaving a long arc in its wake. At that moment, one of the chasing vehicles, moving too fast to stop in time, shot straight off the cliff.
Seizing the moment of confusion, Sloane floored the gas pedal and sped deeper into the mountain road…
The familiar outline of her apartmentplex finally came into view. The car slowly rolled through the gate and came to a stop in front of the building.
Her vision was starting to blur; her limbs felt impossibly heavy. The car door was yanked open, and a tall figure appeared before her.
“Sloane!” Lucas’s voice was low and urgent, brimming with unconcealed worry.
Sloane forced her head up. Seeing Lucas’s cold, chiseled face, her taut nerves finally gave way. She opened her mouth to speak, but darkness overtook her–her entire body pitched forward.
Lucas reacted fast. He reached out and caught her head just in time, stopping it from mming into the steering wheel.
Her body was ice–cold; her face deathly pale.
His brow furrowed tightly as his eyes swept over her, finally locking on her arm, where a deep wound had soaked through her sleeve with blood.
He scooped her into his arms and strode quickly upstairs.
She was iso /ilight in his embrace that it made his heart ache. Something gripped his chest so hard, he could barely breathe–a wave of panic unlike anything he’d ever felt surged through him.
“Good thing the bullet didn’t stay lodged inside, or this would’ve been a lot moreplicated.” Benjamin said as he treated Sloane’s wound with practiced hands.
Lucas stood nearby, his eyes never leaving her pale face.
His fists clenched so tightly, his knuckles turned white. His voice was low and icold/i. “Andrew, find out for me.”
Lucas pondered. iThose /iipeople/ii, /iinot /iia /iisingle /iione /iiof /iithem /iis getting away.
