Lucas’s blood truly seemed to carry some kind of mysterious power. Gradually, Sloane’s body stopped trembling, and her breathing began to steady.

The tension in her brow slowly eased, and the pain on her face started to fade. Her teeth were still sunk into his arm, yet Lucas only looked at her with unwavering gentleness.

“It’s over now! Sloane, it’s all over…” he murmured softly, like he was soothing a frightened kitten.

Atst, Sloane loosened her grip and released his arm. Lucas gentlyid her back onto the bed and pulled the nket up to cover her.

A row of deep bite marks had been left on his arm, blood still seeping slowly from the wound. But he didn’t care. With his other hand, he lightly stroked Sloane’s face, brushing her hair back behind her ear.

“Sleep well. I’ll stay right here with you.” His voice was low and warm, tinged with a depth of emotion he couldn’t quite put into words.

Just as Lucas stood up, ready to tend to his own injured arm, he suddenly felt a hand clutch tightly around his wrist. Looking down, he saw Sloane–at some point, she had opened her eyes. Though her gaze was still dazed, her grip on his wrist was firm, as if she was afraid he’d leave.

“Don’t go…” Her voice was weak and hoarse, ced with a hint of pleading.

Lucas’s heart gave a sudden jolt; the sharp edge in his eyes softened in an instant.

He sat back down by her side and gently held her hand. “I’m not going anywhere. I’ll stay right here with you,” he said in a quiet, steady tone.

Sloane’s fingers trembled slightly, like she wanted to say something; but her strength hadn’t returned yet. All she could do was cling to his hand.

In her eyes, there was a trace of unease–dependence too–as if only his presence could bgive /bher peace.

Lucas looked at her, emotions swirling inside him. He lightly ran his fingers over the back of her hand and said softly, “You still have a fever. You need to rest. I’ll be here the whole time.”

Only then did Sloane finally rx, her eyes closing as she slipped into a deep, peaceful sleep.

Morning sunlight filtered through the curtains, casting a soft, golden light over the room. The gentle glownded on Sloane’s face.

She slowly opened her eyes as her awareness returned. The wound on her shoulder still throbbed faintly, butpared to the torment of the night before, it was much better.

Turning her head slightly, she noticed Lucas sleeping right beside her hand. His head rested against the edge of the bed, his brows slightly furrowed; he didn’t seem to be sleeping soundly. In the soft morning light, his cold, stern features appeared much gentler.

Sloane’s heart stirred. Her gaze dropped to their interlocked hands. She moved her fingertips slightly, feeling the warmth of his palm; a soft current of warmth rose in her chest.

Just then, Lucas’s eyshes fluttered, and his eyes slowly opened. His gaze was still a little ihazy/i, but it quickly met Sloane’s.

“You’re awakei,/i” he said, his voice low and raspy, still tinged with the drowsiness of sleep.

He naturally let go of her hand and reached out to touch her forehead. There was ia /itouch of ease in his tone. “Good, it’s gone down.”

Sloane lowered her gaze and murmured softly, “Thank you forst night.”

Lucas replied with ia /ifeigned lightness, “We’re partners, remember? I’m still counting on Ms. Rivers to save my life.”

With that, he reached out to adjust her nket and reminded her, “You were running a fever all night, and the wound’s a little inmed. You’re not doing anything today–just rest.”

Sloane gave a small nod, her eyes falling on the bite mark on ihis /iarm. The wound had already scabbed over, but it was still shockingly visible. “Your hand…”
