    At the hospital, Benjamin personally performed surgery on Larry. After the operation, Sloane stayed by his side, waiting for him to wake up. “Larry, thank you for saving me today.”

    Larry gave a small smile, his tone unusually gentle. “As long as you’re okay.”

    Sloane frowned slightly, confused, but continued anyway. “Either way, I owe you one.”

    When he heard that, a flicker of emotion crossed Larry’s eyes. He turned his head slightly to look at her, his gaze soft, his voice tentative. “Sloane, do you really not remember?”

    Sloane froze for a second, puzzled. “Remember what?”

    Larry let out a quiet sigh, his voice tinged with nostalgia. “Six years ago, in the mountains— you saved me, too.”

    Images flickered faintly through Sloane’s mind. She vaguely recalled saving an injured man in the forest six years ago, but it had beente in the day and she hadn’t seen his face clearly. She looked at Larry in surprise. “That person was you?”

    Larry nodded, his toneced with gratitude. “Yeah. I was being hunted and seriously wounded. You stopped the bleeding and got me to safety. If it weren’t for you, I probably wouldn’t be here now.”

    Everything suddenly clicked for Sloane. No wonder Larry had always treated her differently.

    “So I guess we’re even,” Larry said, looking up at her, eyes filled with hope. “I just wanted you to know, I genuinely want to be your friend.”

    Sloane had truly never expected the man she saved on a whim all those years ago would turn out to be Larry.

    Just then, the door to the hospital room opened, and Lucas stepped in. He held a thermal container in his hand, his voice carrying a touch of concern. “Sloane, you haven’t eaten anything. I brought you some porridge.”

    Sloane took the container and said softly, “Thank you.”

    Lucas‘ gaze fell on Larry, his tone noticeably cooler. “Mr. Larry, how are you feeling?”

    He’d overheard everything outside the door. To think Sloane and Larry shared a past encounter -that alone made him even more cautious.

    Leaning against the pillow, Larry looked rather pleased. “Thanks to Mr. Hawthorne, I’m doing fine.”

    Lucas ced another thermal container on Larry’s bedside table, his voice t. “This is a nutritional meal for you, Mr. Larry. Eat it while it’s still warm.”

    Larry nced at the container, deliberately furrowing his brow. His voice came out weak. “Thanks, but my hands hurt a bit. I don’t think I can manage.”

    Sloane immediately stood up. “Then I’ll help you.”

    Lucas‘ internal rm red. Before Sloane could move, he stepped in first, snatching up the container with unmistakable resolve. “I’ll feed him.”

    Larry’s expression darkened at once. “No need to trouble yourself, Mr. Hawthorne-”

    Lucas didn’t give him the chance. He opened the container, scooped a spoonful of food, and shoved it straight into Larry’s mouth.

    His movements were swift and forceful, leaving no room for refusal.

    Larry was forced ito /itake a bite and nearly choked on it. Just as he managed to swallow, Lucas scooped another spoonful and practically stuffed it into his mouth again.

    Maybe Lucas was feeding him too fast–Larry started coughing, his face turning a bit blue.
