Just then, the hospital room door creaked open. Everyone turned to look-and saw Sloane standing there, pale as death and barely able to remain on her feet.
Benjamin rushed over and caught her as she stumbled. “Sloane! What happened to you?”
Her eyes fluttered open, and in a voice so faint it was nearly inaudible, she whispered, “Lucas… he’s okay…”
Inside the room, Lucas slowly opened his eyes. His vision was blurred, like peering through mist. He blinked hard, struggling to bring the world into focus. Gradually, the hazy shapes around him took form.
Madam Tessa, Benjamin, Samson-they were all gathered at his bedside, joy etched across their faces.
Madam Tessa clutched his hand, tears brimming in her eyes. “Lucas, you’re awake… thank heaven, you scared me half to death.”
Lucas’s throat felt like sandpaper. His voice came out hoarse: “Grandma… what… what happened to me?”
Samson stepped up and gave his shoulder a pat. “You were poisoned. Been unconscious for days. But you’re alright now. The poison’s gone.”
Lucas’s mind was foggy, memories scattered like shards of broken ss. He couldn’t make sense of it all.
“Don’t think about it too hard,” Benjamin said gently. “Just focus on resting.”
“…Yeah.” Lucas murmured, his gaze drifting across the room-only to stop, confused. One person was missing.
“Sloane?” he asked quietly, unable to hide the flicker of worry. “Where is she?”
Suddenly, the mood in the room shifted. The joy drained from everyone’s faces, reced with a heavy silence. No one met his eyes.
Madam Tessa patted his hand again, her tone soft with forced calm. “Lucas, right now your top priority is recovery. You’ve got a lot waiting for you at thepany.”
But the way she avoided his question made Lucas’s heart sink. A gnawing dread took hold. He struggled to sit up, panic rising in his chest. “What happened to her? Why won’t anyone answer me?!”
Benjamin and Samson exchanged looks, their hesitation in.
Finally, Samson exhaled sharply and said, voice low, “Lucas… Sloane absorbed the poison from your body to save you. Now she…”
Lucas’s entire body stiffened. His hand shot out and gripped Samson’s arm. “What happened to her?
Where is she?!”
He flung back the covers, attempting to get out of bed, but Benjamin quickly held him down. “Lucas, you can’t move right now. She gave everything to save you. Don’t make it meaningless.
Madam Tessa pressed gently on his shoulder, voiceced with helpless sorrow. “Even if you could get up… you wouldn’t be able to see her.”

Lucas’s ears rang at those words, like the world had gone silent in an instant. His heart twisted violently in
his chest.
Benjamin quickly rified. “Sloane passed out after transferring the poison. Then she was taken away. We… we don’t know where she is.”
Lucas’s breath trembled as he forced himself to ask, “Who took her? Why didn’t you stop them?”
Benjamin let out a long sigh. “It was Lena, from Velora Atelier. She arrived with a group of people. She said Sloane sent for her-to take her away and begin detox treatment.”
“Lena…” Lucas murmured, finally recognizing the name. Of course. Lena was one of Sloane’s people- head of Velora Atelier, her most trusted aide.
His hands clenched the bedsheets tightly, eyes dark with fear, grief, and the helpless realization that the woman who saved his life had vanished without letting him say goodbye.
