    “You, you Hawthorne people are the real culprits!” Madam Aubrey screamed, pointing directly at Madam Tessa. “Everything I am today is because of you!”

    Madam Tessa stared at her coldly, eyes filled with disgust. “From the moment you married into the Hawthorne family, neither rence nor I ever mistreated you. Where is all this resentmenting from?”

    Madam Aubrey shrieked, her voice cracked with pain and fury. “I never wanted to marry into the Hawthorne family! It was all of you-you forced me!”

    “Absurd!” Madam Tessa snapped. “The Hawthorne family has never forced anyone into anything. It was your father who proposed the marriage, and we only agreed out of respect for him. How was that forcing you?”

    Just then, Lucas stepped into the room, his stride steady and his expression unreadable. He stood at the doorway, gaze icy and sharp.

    Madam Aubrey’s eyes shed with venom the moment she saw him. Then she let out a chillingugh. “Lucas, you’re back? Perfect. Let me tell you something. I never wanted you. I tried to miscarry more than once, but I failed every time. You never should have been born.”

    Madam Tessa reeled, pointing at her in disbelief. “Those idents back then… they weren’t idents? You did it on purpose?”

    When Madam Aubrey was pregnant, she’d suffered several sudden mishaps-slipping, abdominal pain from eating the wrong foods. No one had thought much of them at the time.
