With a graceful smile, Sloane reached into her clutch and pulled out a gold-embossed invitation. The front shimmered with the gilded insignia of the summit’s official host.

“Is this what you were talking about, Ms. Ginnic?” She flipped it open with perfect poise. Inside, bold letters read: “Guest of Honor – Special Invitee: Ms. Sloane”. “It was delivered to my apartment this morning.”

Yulia audibly gasped-the gold invitations were reserved for the highest-tier VIPs. Even her well- connected father had neverid eyes on one.

Ginnie’s face turned ghostly pale. Her fingernails dug so hard into her palm they nearly broke skin. “Impossible! The organizers said-”

“That there were only five seats in the guest-of-honor section?” Sloane smiled mildly. “What a coincidence. Mine happens to be the fifth.”

Without another word, she looped her arm through Jill’s and turned to leave.

Just as they reached the door, the boutique manager rushed after them. “Ms. Sloane! Director Lisa asked me to tell you-the ‘Moonlight’ gown for tomorrow is ready. I’ll deliver it personally to your apartment.”

As the ss doors closed behind them, Sloane caught a final glimpse of Ginnie’s face-twisted with jealousy and frustration.

Jill grabbed her arm, practically squealing. “Oh my God! When did you meet Lisa? She’s a world-ss designer!”

The next day, luxury cars lined the entrance to the summit venue.

When Sloane stepped out wearing Lisa’s “Moonlight” gown, the crowd froze.

The silvery dress hugged her waistline perfectly, and the flowing hem glittered with crystals, catching the light like falling stars.

“That’s… Lisa’s newest couture release?” someone whispered in awe, recognizing it from a recent magazine spread.

At the far end of the red carpet, Lucas was already waiting. d in a sharply tailored navy suit, his eyes darkened the moment he saw her. He strode forward without hesitation.

“You look stunning, he murmured fingertips grazing the crystals on her gown. “But…”

Hm? Sloane looked up at him.

Without another word, Lucas took off his jacket and draped it over her shoulders. “It’s windy,” he said firmly-leaving no room for protest.

Their shared sinile, brief and natural, happened just as Ginnie arrived and caught sight of them

Her vibrant red dress, so meticulously chosen, suddenly felt t and ordinary. The smile on her face cracked.

“Lucas!” she called out, forcing herself between them. “My father was just asking about you. He wants to introduce you to some of his old friends.” Her eyes flicked toward Sloane, a sh of smugness in her expression.

Lacas subtly stepped back to widen the space between them. “Thank you. I’ll go thank him in a moment.”

Just then, Larry approached with a champagne flute. “Sloane. Didn’t expect to see you here.” His eyes swept over her, lingering on the gown. “That dress suits you beautifully.”

Lucas’s gaze sharpened. Without thinking, he stepped back to Sloane’s side.

“Mr. Whitney.” Sloane offered a polite nod but didn’t take the drink Larry handed her. “Sorry. I don’t drink.”

Larry didn’t seem bothered. He stepped in a little closer. “That’s fine. Actually, I wanted to ask-we’ve got a pharmaceutical project at Houston Group. Would you be interested in-”

“She’s not interested,” Lucas cut in, stepping directly between them.

Larry’s eyes narrowed for a second, but his smile remained yful. “Mr. Lucas, as her former fiancé, I’m not sure you’re in a position to speak on Ms. Sloane’s behalf anymore, are you?”
