Sloane still said nothing. Her thumb pressed a hidden point on her ring. A silver needle shot out, gleamed faintly in the dark, then retracted. She did it again. And again.

Lucas’s eyes twitched when he recognized the needle–ithe /ione she once used to threaten him. If he wasn’t mistaken, it still had traces of blood on it.

“I’m sorry,” Lucas said quietly. “You were harassed because of me. But I promise- he won’t ever bother you again.”

He had already removed all of Mason’s people from thepany. Mason himself was next on the list.

Sloane finally looked up, her expression softening. “It’s fine. I already handled it myself.”

Her thumb pressed the ring again. The bloodied needle popped out once more.

Just then, Andrew walked over and leaned in to whisper something in Lucas’s ear. His eyes briefly flicked to Sloane, clearly a bit stunned. “…he’s crippled… taken away…”

Lucas remained calm. He gave a slight nod. “Send him out of the country tonight. Handle it personally.”

“Yes, sir.” Andrew left without dy. If they were going to do this, it had to be fast.

“I’ll take you home,” Lucas said gently.

Sloane gave a small nod. She had to admit–she’d been unfairly angry at him earlier. If she hadn’t acted on impulse and saved him that night, she wouldn’t be tangled up in his messy world now,

“Marshall’spany is in trouble,” Lucas said, watching her reaction carefully. “He’s been trying everything to get support from the Rivers family”

Sloane’s brows immediately pulled together at the mention of that name. “Hmph. His business was bound to crash sooner orter. And now he thinks the main Rivers family will help him? Not likely. They only care about profits. If he can’t

offer something worthwhile, no one’s going to bother with him.”

Lucas nodded. “Exactly. In the past, they might’ve ignored him. But now… things are different.”

Sloane nced sideways at Lucas. True–the Rivers family might’ve stayed out of it before. But with her engagement to Lucas now in ce, things weren’t so simple anymore.

“Don’t worry,” Lucas said with a sigh. “I haven’t forgotten the first thing I promised you.”

He hadn’t expected to be so thoroughly disliked–but here he was.

As long as the Hawthorne Group refused to show any interest, the Rivers family wouldn’t see any benefit in this engagement. The moment they realized there was no profit to gain, they’d think twice about helping Marshall.

But for Sloane, that wasn’t enough. She shot Lucas a cool look. “Let’s keep our public appearances to a minimum from now on.”

Lucas raised ia /ibrow. iSo /iithat’s /iiit/ii–/iiI’ve /iibeen /iiofficially /iirejected/i.

Sloane honestly thought the man attracted too much drama. Better to only see him when absolutely necessary–like for his treatments.

And as for Marshall trying to save hispany? He could keep dreaming.

When Sloane returned to the Rivers estate, she was surprised to find both Marshall and Helen actually waiting for her in the living room.

“Sloane, thank god you’re back,” Samantha rushed up first, all smiles, reaching out to grab her hand like a loving sister.

Sloane dodged it without hesitation. Samantha’s hand froze mid–air, and her smile faltered. But she quickly recovered, stering on a wounded expression. “Sloane, you’re a daughter of the Rivers family. How could you stoop so low, hanging around with shady people in ces like that, and even
