The Rebirth Of The Beast Tamer
Chapter 33: The Crucible of Bonds
CHAPTER 33: THE CRUCIBLE OF BONDS
Kelvin’s gauntlet flared as he said. "I am enough."
Their clash was brutal, blades and soul light were clashing in a storm of sparks. Varn was fast, his strikes were fueled by rage, but Kelvin’s bond with Xerion gave him clarity.
He dodged and struck with his blade piercing Varn’s shoulder. The rogue tamer staggered, and Krynn faltered as their bond was weakening. Kelvin seized the moment and reinforced his Convergence with Xerion erupting in a final blaze, knocking Varn to the ground.
The horde dissolved and the spire’s glow faded. The trio stood amidst the wreckage, they were bloodied but victorious.
They looted the spire: soul stones pulsing with Veil essence, a runic amulet that hummed with power, and a shard of the Veil’s core, its light shifting like liquid starlight.
Kelvin took the shard, Lyra the amulet, and Darius a cluster of soul stones, their spoils split evenly as a testament to their unity.
The aftermath of the Shattered Veil mission had left the Obsidian Division in an intensed emotion, with Kelvin, Lyra, and Darius hailed as legends among their peers. The relics they had claimed—the Veil shard, runic amulet, and soulstones were now locked in the Sanctum’s vaults, but their triumph echoed through the halls. Yet Kelvin felt no time for rest.
Kelvin stood in the central courtyard at the heart of the Sanctum School and Xerion, the End-Tyrant, lounged beside him, his obsidian scales were shining as he stretched his wings, casting a shadow over the cobblestones.
The gauntlet on Kelvin’s wrist, etched with Xerion’s sigil and pulsed faintly, amplifying their bond’s warmth. Around them, students bustled, some were practicing Convergence techniques, others were tending to their beasts under the watchful eyes of masters.
The courtyard was a great place of activity: a young tamer was coaxing a flame from her emberfox while a senior student was sparring with a frostwyrm and its icy breath was frosting the ground.
"You are quiet," Xerion muttered with his voice a low vibration. "The Veil’s victory wasn’t enough?"
Kelvin tossed a soulstone, catching it mid-air. "It’s not about been enough. The Sanctum is testing us and pushing us beyond our limits. I can feel it."
Lyra approached with her beast—Avian Salaris, perched on her shoulder. Salaris’s talons clicked softly with her eyes scanning the courtyard with predatory focus. "You are brooding again," Lyra said. "The Sanctum is always watching, but you don’t have to carry it alone."
Darius strode up with his thick-armored panther, Rhoam, padding beside him. Rhoam’s iron-like plates clinked with runes glowing faintly as he moved.
Darius tossed a runic dagger between his hands and said. "She is right, man. You are acting like the Inner Sanctum is about to drop a dragon on us. Relax—we are the talk of the school."
Kelvin smirked, but his eyes stayed on the pathway. "Talk is cheap. The Sanctum doesn’t care about rumors. It wants results."
Before Darius could retort, a ripple of energy pulsed through the courtyard. Students froze as a courier beast—a massive owl with runes stitched into its feathers, moved down, landing before Kelvin. It dropped a scroll, its seal was glowing with a deep indigo light.
Kelvin broke the seal, reading aloud: Kelvin, Lyra, Darius. The Inner Sanctum summons you to the Crucible of Bonds, a trial within the Sanctum’s core. Face the challenges of the school’s ancient heart, prove your mastery, and claim your place among the elite. The trial begins at noon in the Grand Arena.
Lyra’s breath caught. "The Crucible? That’s... a sacred ground. Only the greatest tamers face it."
Darius’s grin widened. "Sounds like a party. Rhoam is ready to smash it."
Kelvin’s grip tightened on the scroll. "This is not a party. The Crucible is where bonds are forged or broken. We will go in together and we will come out together."
Xerion’s eyes blazed. "Let the Sanctum test us. We will burn through it."
------------
The Grand Arena was a colossus of stone and magic that is carved into the Sanctum’s eastern ridge. Its walls were etched with murals of legendary tamers and their beasts, their forms were glowing under the noon sun.
Iron braziers burned with violet flames, and enchantments shimmered above the sand-strewn floor.
The Obsidian Division gathered in the stands, their murmurs was filled with a tide of anticipation.
Masters lined the upper tiers, their beasts were at their sides—Headmaster Kaelus was with his void panther, Master Veyne with her serpentine companion, and Master Torren with his obsidian tortoise.
Kelvin, Lyra, and Darius stood at the center of the arena with their beasts ready. Xerion’s wings casted a shadow, Salaris’s feathers gleamed, and Rhoam’s plates clanked softly.
Kaelus stepped forward putting on his wyvern-silk robes that was reflecting an appearance of ligh. "The Crucible of Bonds is not a mere trial," he said, with his voice loud across the arena.
"It is the Sanctum’s heart, a test of your bond’s depth, resilience, and unity. Survive its challenges, and you will emerge as more than tamers—you will be legends."
Master Veyne raised a hand while her serpent was hissing. "Three stages awaits you all: Harmony, Resilience, and Unity. Each will push your bonds to their limits. Begin."
The arena floor rumbled, and a portal of indigo light opened, pulling the trio and their beasts into its depths.

Stage One: The Trial of Harmony
The world was reformed into a lush of vibrant jungle, its canopy alive with the calls of unseen beasts. The air was thick with the scent of moss and wild magic, and the ground pulsed with soulstream energy. Vines writhed like living things, and glowing flowers emitted faint, hypnotic hums.
"Your bonds must act as one," a voice echoed—Kaelus’s voice was resonating from the soulstream itself. "Find the Heart of the Grove and claim its essence."
Kelvin felt Xerion’s presence, steady and fierce. "Stay close," he said to Lyra and Darius. "This place is alive."
They moved as a unit, beasts fanning out. Salaris took to the air with her wings slicing through the vines, while Rhoam prowled ahead with his plates deflecting and snapping tendrils. Xerion’s flames cleared a path, his growl was a warning to the jungle’s unseen threats.
The first beast attacked without warning—a Verdant Basilisk, its scales were blending with the foliage and its eyes glowing with paralytic light.
Kelvin dove, shouting, "Eyes down!" as he channeled his Convergence with Xerion. Their forms blurred, and he struck, his gauntlet flaring as a soullight blade sliced the basilisk’s flank. The beast hissed, its tail went lashing, but Xerion’s claws finished it, tearing through its core.
Lyra and Salaris faced a swarm of Thornwing Moths, their wings were edged with razor-sharp spines. Lyra wove runes, summoning shadow chains that pinned the moths, while Salaris’s talons shredded their wings.
One moth grazed Lyra’s arm, drawing blood, but she gritted her teeth as her bond with Salaris was healing the wound as they fought.
Darius and Rhoam battled a pair of Ironroot Boars that has a tusks like steel blades. Rhoam’s armor absorbed their charges, and Darius hurled a soulstone an its explosion staggered the boars.
Rhoam’s claws dug into their hides, and Darius’s dagger struck true, felling them and scattered them.
The trio reached the Heart of the Grove—a glowing crystal embedded in a massive tree. Its light pulsed, guarded by a Grove Warden, a treant-like beast with vines for limbs and a core of radiant essence.
Kelvin signaled, and they attacked as one. Xerion’s flames weakened the vines, Salaris’s talons targeted its joints, and Rhoam’s charge cracked its bark. Kelvin leaped with his gauntlet blazing, and he drove a soullight blade into the warden’s core.
The beast collapsed and the crystal’s essence flowed into a soulstone that Kelvin held, its light was warm in his hand.
The jungle faded, and they stood in the arena were the crowd roaring. Kaelus nodded. "Harmony achieved. Prepare for Resilience."
***Stage Two: The Trial of Resilience ***
The portal opened again, carried them and dropped them into a desolate wasteland that is filled with ashes and bones. The sky was a storm of red lightning, and the ground were cracked with molten fissures. The air burned, testing their endurance.
"Your bonds must withstand suffering," Kaelus’s voice echoed. "Survive the Ashen Crucible and claim its ember."
The ground erupted, and a Molten Behemoth rose—a creature of lava and stone, its eyes were blazing with fury. Smaller Ash Wraiths—a spectral flames with claws of soot—swarmed around it.
Kelvin and Xerion charged at the behemoth with their Convergence a shield against its heat. The beast’s fist slammed down, but Kelvin rolled with his gauntlet amplifying their bond as he struck, his soullight blade carved into its stone hide.
Xerion’s flames countered the behemoth’s lava, but a wraith’s claw grazed Kelvin’s side, searing his flesh. He gritted his teeth, pushing through the pain, their bond was what kept him upright.
Lyra and Salaris faced the wraiths, the raptor’s wings were deflecting the flames as Lyra’s runes summoned a shadow barrier. A wraith broke through, singeing Salaris’s feathers, but Lyra’s bond healed her beast, and they struck back, chains and talons dispersing the specters.
Darius and Rhoam tackled a second wave of wraiths, the panther’s armor was glowing red-hot.
Darius threw a soulstone and its blast scattered the wraiths, and Rhoam’s claws tore through their cores. A molten tendril lashed Darius’s leg, but he roared, his bond with Rhoam fueling his defiance as they fought on.
The behemoth roared, its core was exposed. Kelvin saw his chance. "Xerion, now!" They soared, their Convergence was a blazing comet, and Kelvin drove his blade into the core. The behemoth shattered, and a glowing ember fell, which Darius caught in a runic vial.
The wasteland dissolved and the arena returned the trio, the crowd’s cheers were deafening. Veyne’s serpent hissed. "Resilience is proven but unity remains, so get ready for the last and most challenging stage."
