The Rebirth Of The Beast Tamer
Chapter 42: The Nexus of resolve
CHAPTER 42: THE NEXUS OF RESOLVE
Kelvin dove into his soulstream, feeling Xerion’s fire. "We will give what we must," he growled, offering a fragment of his fear, his gauntlet blazed as he struck the keeper.
Xerion’s flames burned away the vision, and the ember glowed.
Lyra wove shadow runes, her amulet glowed as she offered her doubt, her bond with Salaris steadyied her strike. Salaris’s talons dispersed the vision, and the ember pulsed brighter.
Darius with his jaw tight, offered his recklessness, his soulstone cracking the keeper’s form as Rhoam’s roar anchored him. The vision shattered, and Darius claimed the ember.
The cavern faded, the arena returned them with cheers. Veyne’s serpent hissed as she said. "Offering is accepted but Synthesis awaits."
**** Trial of Synthesis****
The final portal plunged them into a realm of merged forces with light, shadow, life, and flame that swirled in a primal storm.
Kaelus’s voice could be heard as he said: "Forge synthesis with your bonds. Defeat the Sovereign of Unity and claim its essence."
The sovereign appeared and it is a beast of four forms: a lion of light, a serpent of shadow, a stag of life, and a dragon of flame. Its presence shook the realm, and the platforms quaked. Kelvin signaled, and they split with their beasts ready.
Kelvin and Xerion faced the dragon and their flames clashed in a fiery storm. Kelvin’s gauntlet amplified their Convergence, his blade sliced its wing.
Lyra and Salaris tackled the serpent with their shadow runes binding its coils as Salaris’s talons struck its core.
Darius and Rhoam faced the lion, Rhoam’s armor deflected its light as Darius’s soulstone cracked its hide.
The stage charged, but their synergy rune linked their Convergences and countered its life force.
The sovereign’s true form emerged—a fusion of all four, its essence was pulsing. The trio united, their bonds were sharp.
Kelvin’s gauntlet, Lyra’s amulet, and Darius’s soulstones flared, their Convergences merged in a blinding blast that shattered the essence. Its light flowed into a runic crystal, claimed by Kelvin.
The realm faded, and the arena roared. Kaelus raised a hand. "You have forged the Crest and the Inner Sanctum binds you."
--------
Kelvin, Lyra, and Darius sat clustered around an oak table with their beasts resting nearby. Kelvin touched his gauntlet, feeling Xerion’s fire. "We are bound now," he said, with a steady voice.
Darius responded saying. "I told you that we had own it."
Lyra smiled, stroking Salaris’s feathers and said. "So long as we are together, we are unstoppable no matter what we face."
The relics from their last challenge, the Crest of Unity which are the Balance Warden’s scale, the Keeper of Sacrifice’s ember, and the Sovereign of Unity’s runic crystal, they all glowed softly on the table.
Bound to the Inner Sanctum’s heart, they stood on the precipice of legend, but the Sanctum’s unyielding rhythm demanded more, sharpening their focus with every passing hour.
Kelvin leaned forward as he said. "We are in the deep end now," he said. "The Crest was a milestone, but the Inner Sanctum is not done with us. We need to be sharper—every lecture, every drill."
The victory in the Celestial Arena had been a triumph of unity, but the Inner Sanctum’s gaze was a constant pressure, urging them to refine their bonds.
Lyra responded and said. "You are right. The Crest showed that we can merge our Convergences, but it is still imperfect. This tome suggests that we can stabilize our synergy by aligning our beasts’ primal instincts with our own wills."
Darius, slouched with a soulstone in his hand. "Instincts? Rhoam’s got two modes: smash and nap and I’m good with that."
Rhoam growled softly, nudging Darius’s leg with a plated shoulder, and he chuckled. "Alright, big guy, I will focus.
But seriously, Kelvin, you think the Inner Sanctum is gonna throw another trial at us so soon? We are basically their golden kids now."
Kelvin’s eyes flicked to the relics, their glow was steady but insistent, like a heartbeat. "Golden or not, they don’t let up. The Sanctum is about proving we are worthy every day in mind, body, and bond."
Before Lyra could respond, a sharp sound rattled against the library’s windows, and a courier beast which is a sleek peregrine falcon with runes glowing violet along its feathers, dove in and dropped a scroll on the table.
The seal pulsed with a deep amethyst light, and the air grew heavy, making Salaris chirp sharply and Rhoam’s plates shift as he rose.
Kelvin broke the seal, his pulse quickened as he read aloud, his voice steady despite the weight of the words:
Kelvin, Lyra and Darius. The Inner Sanctum summons you to the Nexus of Resolve at dawn. Face a gauntlet of trials within the Sanctum’s Ethereal Forge, where your bonds will be tested against the forces of creation and destruction. Success will forge you as pillars of the Inner Sanctum; failure will temper your humility. Prepare.
Lyra responded immediately. "The Ethereal Forge? That is the Sanctum’s deepest arena, where the soulstream raw essence flows, creation and destruction are in pure form. These trials will push us beyond anything we have faced."
Darius leaned forward with his grin tempered by a flicker of unease. "Creation and destruction? Sounds like a party, but I’m guessing that it’s gonna sting. Rhoam is up for it, though."
Kelvin’s jaw tightened, Xerion’s growl vibrated deep in his soul. "This isn’t just about strength. It is about enduring what the soulstream demands.
We will prepare tonight, from here to the yard and we will give it whatever it takes."
Salaris glided down, her talons clicked against the table, and Lyra nodded with her voice firm. "Let’s start with texts on creation resonance and destruction runes. Then a drill to test our synergy under pressure."
Xerion’s voice rumbled in Kelvin’s mind, fierce and unyielding: "The Forge will test our essence but we will emerge unbroken."
-----
The night was a night of marathon preparation. In the library’s hushed depths, Kelvin studied a book on creation resonance, its pages detailed how to channel a beast’s life force into regenerative Convergences.
His gauntlet pulsed, amplifying his focus as he linked the concepts to Xerion’s fiery vitality.
Lyra’s scroll explored destruction runes, her amulet glowed as she sketched patterns to destabilize the enemy soulstreams, tailored to Salaris’s precision strikes.
Darius with his usual bravado which is usually tempered by the trial’s gravity, studied soulstone catalysts, he connected their explosive potential to Rhoam’s unyielding resilience.
The relics on the table seemed to pulse in synchronization, as if attuned to the challenge ahead.
As the night drew near they went to the Obsidian Yard for a clandestine drill, they honed their Convergences, weaving their relics and soulstones into their attacks.
Kelvin and Xerion unleashed a spiral of flame and soullight, the gauntlet amplified their strike to shatter a runic construct.
Lyra and Salaris countered with shadow runes that flowed like smoke and pinned another construct for Salaris’s talons to destroy.
Darius and Rhoam delivered a soulstone blast, Rhoam’s armored charge tearing through the debris, their synergy rune linking their efforts.
Their unity was stronger, their bonds humming with potential, but Kelvin felt the strain as creation and destruction demanded precision, and any misstep could unravel them.
"Focus!" Kelvin called, dodging a construct’s counterstrike as Xerion’s flames cleared a path. Lyra’s runes bound another, Salaris’s talons striking was true, while Darius’s soulstone detonated, Rhoam’s claws finished the target.
------
In the morning, the trio gathered at the Ethereal Forge, a vast, subterranean arena that is buried deep within the Sanctum’s core.
Students were packed at the stands, their murmurs were a tide of awe and tension, while Masters Kaelus, Veyne, and Torren stood at the arena’s heart with their beasts, void panther, serpentine companion, and obsidian lion.
Kaelus’s voice reverberated, deep and commanding as the soulstream itself. "The Nexus of Resolve tests your bonds against the forces of creation and destruction, the twin pillars of existence.
Three trials await: Genesis, Ruin, and Convergence. Conquer them, and you will stand as pillars of the Inner Sanctum."
A portal of amethyst light opened and the trio stepped through with their beasts, the world dissolved into a storm of light and shadow.
*****Trial of Genesis*****
The portal spat them into a realm of vibrant creation, a jungle where trees pulsed with light and rivers of liquid soulstream shimmered under a sky of swirling greens.
The air was thick with the scent of sap and wild magic, and the ground thrummed with life. Kaelus’s voice could be heard through the soulstream: "Embrace the force of creation. Defeat the Genesis Guardian and claim its bloom."
Kelvin felt Xerion’s fire surge, their bond was a blazing anchor in the chaotic vitality. "Stay sharp," he said, his gauntlet glowed with a fierce light. "This place is alive so expect resistance."
Lyra nodded, her amulet pulsed as Salaris took flight, her wings slicing through the humid air to scout ahead. Darius gripped a soulstone, his eyes was narrow as Rhoam’s plates clinked, the panther braced for action.
A pack of Verdant Sprites emerged, ethereal creatures with bodies of woven vines and eyes like glowing emeralds, their movements were swift and unpredictable.
