Chapter 58: Purpose In The Middle of A Challenge
CHAPTER 58: PURPOSE IN THE MIDDLE OF A CHALLENGE
Kelvin, Lyra and Darius moved through the morning crowd with the constant presence of their beast- Xerion’s fiery aura casted a fierce glow as he prowled with coiled power.
Avian Salaris glided above with her moonlight feathers cutting the dawn light, and Rhoam padding beside Darius, his iron plates gleaming with each deliberate stride.
Kelvin’s Adept Rank 3, with a 62% sync ratio and a very high stability bond with Xerion, the Level 8 Legendary End-Tyrant was a foundation he sought to strengthen with his mentorship mission which now has dubbed the Paragon Crew, a flame that lifted others and fueled his own growth.
The day began with Master Torren’s combat seminar in the Obsidian Yard, where the sharp scent of scorched stone and sweat sharpened their senses like a blade.
Master Torren drilled them on tactical Convergences while he emphasized on adaptability in chaotic scenarios.
Kelvin’s soullight blade danced with Xerion’s flames, weaving a spiral of light and fire that sliced through a training construct with surgical precision which earned Torren’s rare praise.
"You are leading with instinct, Kelvin," Torren said with his voice firm but approving. "Eryndor has made you sharper and your bond is a weapon now."
Kelvin’s combat grades were among the top-tier, his practical skills which is honed by the scars of Eryndor, where he had faced the Abyssal Ravager’s chaos and carried the weight of a village survival.
The memory of blood and fire and of Jara’s grateful tears, anchored his strikes, giving them a depth that resonated in the yard.
Lyra’s shadow runes flowed seamlessly with Salaris strikes, her talons carved through the constructs with a precision that seemed to bend the air, earning him Master Torren’s nod.
"Your control is unmatched, Lyra," he said and urged her to push her runes’ versatility as well.
Her combat performance was flawless, her strategic mind was quiet a strength but she sought to innovate and refine her shadow cloak rune in her notes so as to enhance Salaris’s stealth for group tactics.
Darius’s soulstone blasts bolstered Rhoam’s armored charges, their synergy toppling constructs with raw, earth-shaking power and his grades climbed as his focus deepened.
"You are finding your edge, Darius," Torren noted, his approval was a spark that lit Darius’s grin. His once-reckless style was evolving which is altered by the trio’s synergy and Torren’s relentless drills.
Master Torren went round checking and commending peoples effort, he as well corrected and re-directed some people who were not getting it as supposed.
As the seminar ended, Torren lingered by Kelvin and his gaze pierced through Kelvin. "You are influencing others, Kelvin," he said with his a low voice.
"This Paragon Crew of yours is stirring the Sanctum. Keep it up, we need tamers who will inspire others." His interest was sparked by Kelvin’s mentorship and his triumph in Eryndor which fueled Kelvin’s resolve to deepen his impact.
The words lingered in her mind which was a quiet challenge that Kelvin carried like a flame as he left the yard, his gauntlet thrummed with purpose.
In the corridor, Kelvin spotted Lia, the first-year with the Level 2 Glimmerhare where she was practicing a defensive glow alone with her bond faltering under pressure.
Her eyes were down casted as her confidence was shaken by a failed Convergence in class, her hare’s antlers was dim and flickering.
Kelvin approached with his gauntlet glowing faintly as he offered a smile. "Hey, Lia. Are you troubled with Glow? You look like someone who is fighting a storm."
Lia nodded, her voice soft and trembling. "Glow is too scared to synchronize properly. I tried it in class but it fell apart and everyone saw it. I am not good enough for the Sanctum." Her hands clenched and Glow nuzzled her leg with its light dimming further as a reflection of her doubt.
Kelvin came down to her level with his tone gentle but firm as he told her about his own early struggles with Xerion’s overwhelming fire.
"I felt the same with Xerion at first—his flames were too much and I thought that I will never keep up. But it is not about being good enough, it is about trusting your bond.
Try this: hold Glow close, feel her heartbeat, and let her know you believe in her with no pressure, just you two." He placed a hand on Lia’s shoulder, his gauntlet’s warmth was a quiet reassurance, Xerion’s fire pulsed in his soul as a silent encouragement.
Lia hesitated initially, but she cradled Glow, closing her eyes and reaching for her bond. Kelvin watched while feeling Xerion’s approval ripple through their bond as a steady anchor.
Lyra worked with Kael, helping his Stone crab synchronize its stubborn instincts into a defensive shell, while Darius pushed Mira to channel her Flameviper’s fiery temper into a controlled strike.
Riven’s Ashen Sparrow wove a smoky veil, Lia’s Glimmer hare glowed defensively and Tor’s Ember fox sparked offensively as their confidence soared.
By the end of drill, the group’s bonds were stronger and their laughter echoed and Kelvin felt his bond with Xerion surge high with his synchronizing ratio reaching 64%, a quiet triumph born out of shared progress.
Slowly, Lia’s breath became steadied and Glow’s antlers glowed brighter with a soft pulse of soulstream energy passing between them.
Lia’s eyes opened, wide with awe. "She... she’s glowing stronger. I felt her trust in me." Her voice cracked with a smile breaking through her doubt.
Kelvin grinned and touched her shoulder as he said. "That’s it, Lia. You are stronger than you think, and Glow knows it. Keep building that trust, and you will shine."
Lia’s smile and her glowing was a victory Kelvin carried like a spark and his bond with Xerion surged. His synchronizing ratio ticking moved upward to 63%.
The act of teaching and of lifting another tamer’s spirit was a fire that burned brighter in his soul and a self-driven mission that deepened his purpose.
-------
Over a lunch of spiced meat and bread in the common room, Kelvin shared his plan with Darius, his voice was alive with conviction.
"The Paragon’s Crew is working, Riven, Lia, Tor are growing. But we can reach out to more people, maybe even second-years who have hit a wall. We will build a space where tamers lift each other."
Darius leaned back, tossing a soulstone into the air, his grin was wide. "I love it, man. Rhoam and I can hype the shy ones, get them to swing. Let’s make it a movement.
Paragon Crew is gonna shake the Sanctum." Their laughter echoed and their resolve was a spark that ignited their bonds, Xerion and Rhoam’s presence was a steady anchor.
------
The afternoon brought them to Master Caelum’s runic seminar. Caelum lectured on adaptive runes, urging tamers to craft sigils that could shift in battle.
Kelvin’s resonance rune for Xerion glowed fiercely and its lines pulsed with fiery energy, earning Caelum’s praise. "Your craft is evolving, Kelvin," Caelum said. "Your mentorship is giving your runes purpose."
Kelvin’s grades in runic theory were top-tier and his practical skills was a quiet strength which was recognized by teaching others.
Lyra’s shadow rune was intricate as it is weaving multiple layers to enhance Salaris’s stealth. "You are pushing boundaries, Lyra," Caelum noted, urging her to share her designs.
Darius’s strength rune for Rhoam was bold, its lines were clean and powerful and his performance improved as his discipline grew. "You are finally focused, Darius," Caelum said.
As the seminar ended, Caelum pulled Kelvin aside and said to him in a low voice. "Your Paragon Crew is the talk of the masters, Kelvin. You are shaping tamers’ futures so keep it sharp."
His interest, sparked by Kelvin’s influence has fueled Kelvin’s resolve to expand the group, a mission that resonated with his bond with Xerion which is now pulsing stronger than ever.
After class, Kelvin led a mentorship session in the Obsidian Yard, the group grew to include Riven, Lia, Tor, and two new first-years who are Kael, a quiet boy with a Level 2 Stonecrab, and Mira, a fierce girl with a Level 3 Flameviper.
Kelvin guided them through tactical Convergences with his voice steady but warm as he said. "Your beast’s strength comes from your bond, not just power. Feel their instinct, and let it guide you." He demonstrated it with Xerion, weaving a flame pulse that lit the air, inspiring the group.

The evening saw the trio in their dorms and their minds were alive with purpose. In the male dorm, Kelvin and Darius laid in their room. Kelvin shared his vision for the Paragon Crew with a steady voice.
"We can make this a legacy-tamers helping tamers, year after year."
Darius nodded his head as he tossed a soulstone and said. "Let’s do it. Rhoam and I will keep the fire high."
Their plan took shape, which is a mission to build a lasting community and their bonds were strengthened through the act of dreaming big.
