The Red Dragon Just Wants To Do As It Pleases
Chapter 381 - 240: The Patricidal Dragon
After his cover was blown, Sebriz, the Silver Dragon Bard, was subjected to relentless interrogation by a group of elder Blue Dragons from the court, who felt that the safety of their nest was under unprecedented threat, for a full two months.
No one knew if the Silver Dragon was particularly cooperative or if he truly possessed some ability to bewitch dragons' hearts. However, when David was summoned back to the court and saw him again, Sebriz—apart from looking a bit weary from the prolonged, intense questioning—seemed to have escaped any harsher, non-dragonlike torture.
This connected with Sebriz's half-baked fiasco involving Patricio, which made David look at him with an especially strange gaze. He was worried that this creature might have covertly seduced all the elder Blue Dragons in the court! After all, this individual seemed to have no qualms about "meat or greens" and showed no distinction between male and female—a veritable scoundrel of love among Silver Dragons, an existence that would surely be exiled from Dragon Island to fend for itself.
The moment David received the interrogation records, etched with lightning burn marks on a stone tablet from the tail of a Dragon Nest guard, he was taken aback:
He truly was a Silver Dragon born on Elariya's Dragon Island!
His full name was Frantezlo Sebriz Gonzalez of Swietlanden.
"Swietlanden?" A speechless David glanced from the stone tablet to the Silver Dragon tied to a pillar, who was staring into the sky with the indifference of a pig that doesn't fear boiling water, and silently closed the tablet.
It was no other reason than this: Swietlanden was the surname of his own father, Attilicia. No surprise there, not at all. Counting the years, this fellow could very well be Attilicia's grandnephew, his own distant cousin... He and his old man were polar opposites: one a War God of pure love, ensnared by a Red Dragon and thereafter passing through a myriad of flowers yet remaining untouched; the other, who knew what trauma had turned him into the progenitor of Scum Dragons.
Yet, due to this familial connection, he might still have to bail this youngster out to some extent. Otherwise, with the Silver Dragons' ties of kinship, if news reached Dragon Island, his old man Attilicia might eventually come looking for him. But it wasn't too big a concern. Considering the Martial Monk skill set this kid had brought back from his studies on the Toriel Karatu Continent, David had planned all along to rescue him first, devour his skills, and then kick him out. As for why he didn't plan to recruit him long-term? The old saying goes that nature is hard to change. Besides, he had a whole bunch of single dragons under his command. Heaven forbid this youngster "bent" them all; it could very well become one of Elariya's future laughingstocks.
Clearly, even across tens of thousands of leagues, the Blue Dragons of the Kutaro Desert had heard of the Swietlanden family's reputation.
If the Chromatic Dragons and Metal Dragons of Elariya were likened to two rival superpowers, then the Olivalyres Blue Dragon Clan, with a legendary ancient dragon at its head, would be comparable to a powerful noble family within the Chromatic Dragon 'nation'—roughly Cao Cao's standing. And what of the Swietlanden family, from which his father Attilicia hailed? They were more akin to the venerable Yuan family, which boasted 'four generations holding the posts of the Three Ducal Ministers'—a status Cao Cao himself once found unattainable. In terms of sheer deterrence and influence, at least for now, they were on entirely different levels. The fact that they could ransom Attilicia from the clutches of Pafila in her prime was proof enough.
Probably because of this, the gazes of the elder Blue Dragons in the court upon David, the 'culprit' behind it all, were especially complex.
David was well aware of what these old fools were thinking. They were probably cursing him in their hearts. If Sebriz, the Silver Dragon, had simply slipped away from the Blue Dragon Nest that day, it would have been a loss of face, but at least they wouldn't be dealing with this hot potato now. Let him go outright? Wouldn't that clearly show fear of his Swietlanden kin among the Metal Dragons? How much more disgraceful would that be! It might even draw the wrath of Tiamat, the Chromatic Dragon Queen. But keep detaining him? The Olivalyres clan was about to enter a new breeding season for their younger generation, and it would be troublesome if those Silver Dragons came to demand their kin back.
After a while, one of the elder Blue Dragons cleared his throat and asked ponderously,
" 'Karatrulka', as a guardian of the Dragon Nest, you have fulfilled your duty and upheld the dignity of our Olivalyres clan. However, since it was you who captured the dragon, after unanimous consultation by the council of court elders, we believe you also have the right to decide on the disposition of this Silver Dragon. So, what do you think should be done with him?"
As he spoke, the elder Blue Dragon gave David a meaningful look. He hoped that David, not being a fool, would understand their predicament. If David took responsibility willingly, handled it properly, and conducted himself well, the Olivalyres clan would surely not treat him unfairly in the future.
But if David were just some Blue Dragon with no significant background, that would be one thing; he had no intention of staying long in this Blue Dragon Nest, though.
It was like making eyes at the blind.
Although David had already made plans to rescue the dragon, with this 'reminder' from the elder Blue Dragons, why would he willingly take the blame? He adopted an air of complete cluelessness, as if thinking, I have no idea what you're talking about.
"This... I apologize. While it's true I captured the dragon, I have absolutely no experience dealing with such matters. Besides, I'm still young. Therefore, the elders can dispose of him as they see fit. There's no need to consider my opinion; everything is up to the court elders to decide."
At this point, David paused, then said with a smile,
