The Red Dragon Just Wants To Do As It Pleases
Chapter 416 - 254: Don’t Look Back!
CHAPTER 416: CHAPTER 254: DON’T LOOK BACK!
Three months after David and his companions set out, the scent markers they had left behind came into play.
Brittany followed the trail.
However, to David’s surprise, yet somehow within his expectations, the mother Tyrannosaurus had returned empty-handed!
"Damn it, he got away!" Brittany cursed all the way back, unable to capture the Spirit Sucker Governor and feeling quite chagrined.
"Here, catch." David immediately tossed her the head of a Spirit Sucker. Christoph had caught it, and David had then turned it into an Undead with ’Resurrection of the Dead.’
After all, the most important Elder Brain is already in hand. Any other spoils of war are optional for me.
Besides, Brittany, this legendary mother Tyrannosaurus, is the true powerhouse of our team. Without her restraining that Spirit Sucker Governor, there would have been no chance of success on this trip.
Moreover, keeping a ’tank’ like her in a good mood is crucial for enhancing my survival experience in ’high-difficulty dungeons.’
Brittany, of course, wasn’t about to stand on ceremony with David. The initially frustrated dragon was immediately pleased, swishing her tail. "Hmm, you’re sensible enough, David."
Even for Brittany, the head of a legendary Spirit Sucker was a rare trophy. It could be exchanged for many valuable items in the treasury of the Lich Queen of the Githyanki. Most importantly, their expedition had successfully destroyed a Spirit Suckers’ lair and a Snail Shell Ship. As long as they brought back evidence of their ’military exploits,’ they could gain even more. Although losing the Spirit Sucker Governor was admittedly a heartache for her, the gains from this mission had already far exceeded her achievements of the past ten years.
Thinking this, even David, the very one who had once killed her most capable draconic servant, seemed a little less irksome.
Only Christoph stood silently to the side, fuming but not daring to speak as he watched David present his—Christoph’s—catch to Brittany as if it were David’s own.
The sky over the Grey Wilderness of Hades was eternally gloomy, shrouded in an ominous cloud cover. Sunlight never touched this seemingly forgotten land, which was permeated by the stench of decay and death. And the closer they got to the territory of the Corrupt Dragon God, the more palpable this became.
Perhaps it was because the Corrupt Dragon God’s domain was associated with death and decay, but spending too much time here seemed to dampen one’s spirits as well.
The five dragons flying together didn’t feel like talking, all eagerly wanting to pass through the Ultra-Long-Distance Teleportation Array in The Decayed Domain and return to the primary material plane of Elariya.
This state only persisted until David and the others approached the mountain range that resembled a dilapidated mausoleum.
As if emerging from a prolonged illusion, an oncoming cold wind greeted them, and all the darkness and gloom surprisingly vanished, giving David and his companions a sense of awakening from a dream.
"What’s going on? Do you feel it?" David asked, his expression grave.
Almost as soon as he finished speaking, the dragons suddenly felt a chill on their heads.
David looked up and extended a claw.
Good heavens, it was snowing!
And not just any snow, but the kind of thick, feather-like flakes that were extremely rare even on the Old Continent of Elariya. It even made the three Red Dragons, David included, feel an inexplicable chill.
"By Farazur above! This is impossible! This cannot be!" the Night Dragon shrieked, turning to flee in utter disbelief.
But Christoph, infuriated, caught him again in an instant.
However, when David and the others saw the Night Dragon, already lifeless in Christoph’s jaws, David was speechless. "Why the hell did you kill him? Who’s going to lead us now?"
Christoph was even more furious. "Do you think I’m a fool? I didn’t even touch him! He died of fright!"
"What?" Hearing this unbelievable answer, not only David but also his father Attilicia, who had remained silent until now, was puzzled.
A Night Dragon was still a Dragon; to be scared to sudden death like that—what in the world was going on?
It was Brittany who spoke. "The domain of laws of Farazur, the Corrupt Dragon God, has dissipated."
Only this could explain why the deathly stillness and gloom that had constantly weighed on their spirits had suddenly vanished. The fact that Brittany could now directly invoke Farazur’s name within His own domain without any ominous repercussions also lent credence to this guess.
The sudden disappearance of this oppressive atmosphere, however, had scared a Night Dragon to death—a dragon that had lived its entire life in this environment. The irony wasn’t lost on David, especially since the Dragon God this Night Dragon worshipped held sway over aspects of death and immortality.
However, I can somewhat understand. That feeling... it’s probably like a fish in the ocean suddenly discovering that water, as a substance, has vanished, its entire worldview shattering instantly.
But for the domain of a Dragon God to suddenly dissipate...
Either It has left Hades, or... It has died?
David was more inclined to believe the former. After all, aside from his mother Pafila—the newly ascendant, powerful Dragon God—the previous ten Dragon Gods had existed for countless ages. And even if a god died, it shouldn’t happen so rapidly.
Regardless of whether this Dragon God had left or died, it seemed to confirm a troubling realization for the dragons: the new round of the War of the Gods was, after all, inevitably erupting. Moreover, it was beginning to spread from the domain of war to other domains.
But... who would covet an Authority associated with the principles of death, decay, and corruption?
