The Red Dragon Just Wants To Do As It Pleases
Chapter 429 - 259: The Giant Chasm
CHAPTER 429: CHAPTER 259: THE GIANT CHASM
Just as Tiamat’s true form finally descended onto the blood-soaked battlefield of the Grey Wilderness, like a setting sun sinking into the land, the grand spectacle also captured David and his companions’ eyes, dyeing the horizon fiery red.
And with Tiamat’s divine arrival, the groaning of the earth became even more intense and terrifying.
The posture displayed by these two Dragon Gods, it was as though they were about to tear apart the very foundations of this plane of existence.
David certainly didn’t want to ’die again’ just after having ’come back from death,’ especially not by being shaken to death by the residual effects of a battle between Dragon Gods. That kind of death would be too stupid for words.
So he couldn’t help but urge the Dragon father, who was setting up the Ultra-Long-Distance Teleportation Array anew,
"How much longer do you need on your end? We’re done with our part with the Platinum Dragon God and you’re still not finished?"
Arrogance
As is well known, technical workers, especially those tasked with solving computational problems, are most annoyed by laymen who hover over their work, pointing fingers and pressing for progress.
If it had been earlier, when he was ’half-dead and half-alive,’ Attilicia might have endured it.
But now, his deflated brain had returned to form, and having just had half a lifetime of faith in Dragon Gods shattered, he couldn’t tolerate this at all and immediately roared angrily,
"I’m working on it, I’m working on it! Stop rushing me! Do you have any idea how difficult this thing is to manage? The corresponding coordinates between planes are changing every moment, the Mana Energy particles on the Teleportation Circle are constantly swirling and flowing every second, and they’re extremely susceptible to external environmental influences. I have to be extremely cautious in controlling the balance between them when I’m reconstructing it! But look at the mess the ground is in now!
"I know you guys are great fighters! You’ve faced a Dragon God and you’re not completely dead yet, but if you have the ability, make these mindless Mana Energy particles settle down too! If you can handle them, I’ll have it set up for you right away."
In normal times, this task would require a standard Teleportation Circle maintenance team working day and night for who knows how many days.
Under the current conditions, as catastrophic as an apocalyptic disaster, there was no way the delicate Teleportation Circle could be brought back into operation, even if it drove one mad trying.
Originally, David, clicking his tongue, was prepared not to stoop to arguing with his Dragon father, who had suddenly become as moody as if he were going through menopause.
But upon hearing the latter half of the sentence, his pupils brightened with an idea. He raised a claw and struck the massive Teleportation Circle.
A clear CLANG echoed.
This reckless action almost scared Attilicia, the Dragon father who was tuning the magic formation, out of his wits. He immediately cried out, clutching his head, as if his cloaca had been stepped on by the Dragon Mother,
"Are you tapping your mo..."
But before he could finish cursing, he was astonished to find that they hadn’t been sent skyward by the ’about to lose control’ Ultra-Long-Distance Teleportation Array.
What was even more unbelievable was that the Teleportation Circle, which had been unable to stabilize due to the fallout from the battle between the two Dragon Gods, had miraculously stilled!
It was nothing short of a miracle!
Wind of Absolute Silence
This scene would be easy to understand if it had occurred on the neighboring Blue Star. On Blue Star, it’s commonly known that when old household appliances malfunction, a firm smack can sometimes surprisingly make them work again.
This is because the circuit has a cold solder joint or a desoldered connection, causing poor contact. When smacked, the pins of the electronic components make contact with the solder pads, and the machine temporarily returns to normal operation.
But who in the world has ever seen a space rocket launch pad—during a major earthquake and undergoing critical repairs—suddenly get fixed by someone’s casual smack, then be announced ready for a normal launch?
This wasn’t something that could be explained as a supernatural event. This was more like an extraterrestrial from Leo making a wish to Buddha on the spot and encountering a ghost in broad daylight!
Attilicia was stupefied.
Retracting the ’divine finger’ he had just freeloadingly scrounged from Bahamut, King of the North Wind, David looked up, flashed an Arrogant smile, and said,
"Didn’t you say that if this problem was solved, you could set it up right away? Hurry up and get moving. If we delay any longer, a single fart from those two Dragon Gods could blast us straight into the Abyssal Depths to be reborn as Dretches... PFFT!"
But David’s words were also cut short. Due to the chaotic flow of Magic Power from casting beyond his abilities, blood suddenly erupted from his mouth, nose, and even from between his scales.
With the smug smile from his ’freeloaded’ success still lingering on his lips, he abruptly ’died’ before his own father, collapsing to the ground, his life or death unknown.
"...Damn it!" Attilicia didn’t know if it was because he had witnessed David ’die’ in front of him once before, but his ability to cope was much greater than before. Looking at the two ’dead’ Red Dragons before him, he was at a loss for words for a moment, but he knew what he had to do first!
Fortunately, he hadn’t been lying earlier. Almost as soon as David resolved the Teleportation Circle’s oscillation issue, the already-constructed framework of the circle erupted with brilliant light of Magic Power under Attilicia’s rapid adjustments.
However, as soon as it returned to normal, the circle immediately started to destabilize again. Attilicia dared not delay. Grabbing one dragon by the tail with a claw, he threw it straight into the Teleportation Gate. He also remembered to use his semi-plane to stuff the headless, decayed corpse of the Dragon God in. Then, as he made his own powerful leap into the portal, he glanced back towards the depths of the Grey Wilderness.
And with that glance, he witnessed a collision as if heaven and earth were cleaving open and all creation was perishing.
