CHAPTER 223: CHAPTER 223 THE CAR WAS HIT AND SENT FLYING
An Yan was speechless. Alright then, let’s bid, she resolved.
The price rose all the way to fifty million before Feng Jingnian finally stopped.
"Congratulations to bidder number 026!"
As the auctioneer’s voice rang out, Feng Jingnian turned to An Yan. "Miss An Yan has quite the nerve, daring to bid up to fifty million for a Raw Stone!"
An Yan smiled. "If I like it, I’ll get it!"
Feng Jingnian’s gaze lingered thoughtfully on An Yan. This woman gives me a strange feeling! he thought. There’s a subtle sense of threat about her. I don’t like this feeling! Not one bit!
Yezi showed no interest in the subsequent items, so An Yan didn’t bid either.
The auction ended, and it was time for stone cutting.
An Yan had initially planned to take the Raw Stones with her. However, the staff strongly recommended she have them cut on-site, assuring her there would be no fee. They further promised that if she agreed to cut the thirty-three million Raw Stone then and there, they would arrange for a master stonecutter to process her other purchased Raw Stones, also free of charge.
An Yan hesitated, mainly because she didn’t know what Yezi wanted these Raw Stones for—whether it was better to cut them open or not.
Just then, Feng Jingnian spoke up. "Miss An Yan, if you cut this Raw Stone here and its value truly exceeds fifty million, I’ll add an extra million as a promotional fee! Don’t worry, I have no ill intentions; I simply wish to broaden my horizons."
His words drew the attention of people nearby. "Wow, Young Master Feng is so generous! Spending a million just to gain experience—that’s a real eye-opener!"
A crowd quickly gathered, chanting, "Cut! Cut! Cut!"
Even Yezi seemed to quiver in agreement.
Little Squirrel, caught up in the excitement, leaped about, waving its tiny fists. "SQUEAK! SQUEAK! SQUEAK!"
With the atmosphere so charged, An Yan simply nodded.
A staff member handed her a pen. "How would you like it cut?"
An Yan held the pen, momentarily freezing. How am I supposed to know how to cut it? she wondered.
Wang Yong quickly approached. "Miss, if you trust me, shall I do the marking?"
"Mm." An Yan handed him the pen.
Feng Jingnian’s eyes narrowed slightly at this. This woman is indeed a novice, he thought. That Little Squirrel is the real expert here. If this Raw Stone truly contains a gem worth more than fifty million, then no matter the cost, I must get my hands on that Little Squirrel!
After Wang Yong finished marking, he handed the Raw Stone to the stonecutter. The machine whirred to life. The previously boisterous scene instantly fell silent. Everyone stared at the machine with bated breath. Even An Yan found herself growing inexplicably nervous.
I wonder if Yezi’s judgment is accurate, she thought. If they cut it open and there’s nothing inside, that would be quite a joke.
"It’s showing! It’s out! Oh my god, it’s red!" someone exclaimed.
"Red Jadeite? It’s Red Jadeite!"
Feng Jingnian’s expression finally contorted. I never expected it to be Red Jadeite! he thought, stunned. Such a large piece... it’s not just worth fifty million, but five hundred million! That Little Squirrel... it really is a Treasure-hunting Mouse!
Feng Jingnian suppressed the burning desire in his heart and wrote An Yan a check for the one million he had promised.
Without changing his expression, he subtly signaled someone beside him. The person acknowledged the signal and silently withdrew.
Many people at the scene rushed over, eager to buy An Yan’s Red Jadeite at a high price. But An Yan didn’t dare sell it. While the stone had a price, Yezi was priceless.
Ever since the jadeite was revealed, Yezi quivered with frenetic energy. An Yan worried its leaves were shaking so violently they might shake themselves loose from the plant.
After politely declining the crowd’s eager bids, An Yan led her companions out of the venue through the VIP passage.
Little Squirrel, finding no more excitement, crawled into An Yan’s pocket to sleep. Its fluffy tail hung out, looking quite like a harmonious decorative accessory on her clothes.
An Yan and her group took the elevator to the underground parking lot. A few minutes later, their car drove out and made its way onto the main road.
As they were passing through an intersection, a dump truck suddenly careened out, plowing straight into their car. The vehicle flew into the air, tumbling before crashing down. In an instant, it was reduced to a crumpled heap of scrap metal. A red fluid seeped from the wreckage, emitting a strong, metallic scent of blood.
"It’s done!" From inside a nearby car, Feng Jingnian’s mouth curved into a smile. Once and for all! Everyone who opposed me, who dared to disrespect me, will ultimately pay the price for their ignorance!
"Let’s go." His car had just started, not yet even moving, when another vehicle blocked its path.
"It’s Young Master Mo!" the driver reported.
What is he doing here?
Feng Jingnian frowned. Though reluctant, he had to get out of the car.
Mo Shiyan was the Mo Family’s eldest direct grandson, while he, Feng Jingnian, was merely a maternal grandson. Even though Mo Shiyan was obsessed with acting and neglected proper business, their grandfather still intended to hand over the Mo Consortium to him.
I’m the one who has contributed the most to the Mo Family’s business! Feng Jingnian seethed internally. Yet, just because my surname is Feng, all my efforts are ignored by the old man! Ha!
"Cousin, is there a reason you’re stopping me?" Feng Jingnian asked, trying to maintain composure.
"Who authorized you to harm Miss An Yan?" Mo Shiyan demanded.
"Miss An Yan? Who are you talking about?" Feng Jingnian feigned confusion.
"The girl in that wrecked car! She’s the divine doctor I found for Grandfather. She’s also the one who just bought that piece of Red Jadeite at the Raw Stone Fair for fifty million!"
Feng Jingnian feigned realization. "Oh, her. What about her?"
Mo Shiyan pointed towards the crash site. "Your men crashed her car, didn’t they?"
"Cousin, you can’t make such accusations without evidence!"
"Did you do this because she was unwilling to associate with you, or because you didn’t want her to operate on Grandfather?"
"Cousin, what on earth are you talking about? I simply don’t understand."
"Do you even know who An Yan is? She’s the wife of Li Tianyao, the head of Shangjing City’s Li Consortium! Feng Jingnian, do you think Li Tianyao needs evidence to retaliate against you?"
Feng Jingnian’s expression faltered. An Yan is Li Tianyao’s wife? he thought, shocked. I truly didn’t expect that.
"More importantly, if you were going to kill her, why didn’t you do it cleanly!" Mo Shiyan’s face was cold, his eyes filled with disappointment. "She had more than just a few bodyguards with her today! Openly and covertly, there were at least twenty! It’s one thing to be foolish yourself, but how could you leave such obvious loose ends? I really don’t know how you’ve managed all these years."
Feng Jingnian, irritated by his tone, retorted, "And what makes you any better? Do you think starring in a few movies makes you some omnipotent hero from the silver screen?"
"What’s the use of arguing now?" Mo Shiyan pressed. "The crucial thing is to figure out how to clean up this mess! Tell me, what’s your next move? How will you handle An Yan’s bodyguards? Let’s see how you plan to salvage this!"
Feng Jingnian sneered. "Salvage what? The car accident has nothing to do with me. As for this Miss An Yan you speak of, I’ve only met her once."
A trace of anger flickered across Mo Shiyan’s face. "Are you so sure you handled it perfectly? Your men might work for your money, but wouldn’t they betray you for someone else’s?"
