“Sebastian, take Emery back to the hospital. And stay with her,” Logan ordered suddenly.
Emery frowned at the abrupt instruction, but she didn’t argue. She lingered for a moment instead, her eyes fixed on him. Then, without warning, she rose on her toes and pressed a quick kiss to his cheek.
“I’ll see youter,” she said.
Logan blinked, caught off guard by her action, but gave a short nod.
“Brother, aren’t you going to introduce me to my sister–inw?” the other man said. His tone carried mock offense, though his smile was easy. “You let Gabriel meet her, yet I get nothing? That stings a little.”
Logan’s arm slipped around Emery’s waist, pulling her closer to his side as he spoke. “Emery… this is Daemon. The Alpha King.”
Daemon’s smile deepened. “You are as beautiful as the rumors,” then he reached out and caught Emery’s hand without hesitation, lifting it toward his lips. But before he could brush the back of her palm, Logan’s hand shot out, snapping Daemon’s grip away.
The sharp move made Daemon’s brow lift. He turned his gaze to Logan, surprise flickering across his face.
Just as Emery braced herself for Daemon tosh out, his expression shifted. Instead of anger, he let out a soft chuckle.
“I didn’t realize you were the jealous type, my brother,” Daemon said, a smile tugging at his lips. “Jealousy doesn’t suit you.”
His gaze then slid toward Emery. “But I am not going to hold you ountable for your emotions. I did note here for that. Mydy, I am Daemon, his brother—”
“You cut ties with me a long time ago, Your Majesty,” Logan interrupted firmly. His grip around Emery’s waist tightened. “So please refrain from using that word. It will only cause misunderstandings.”
Daemon’s smile finally faltered. His brows drew together as he studied Logan. “Hearing you say that… it breaks my heart.”
Logan didn’t respond. He turned his attention to Sebastian instead. “Take her to the hospital,” he repeated.
Daemon’s gaze followed the exchange, his expression shifting into something more curious than wounded. “Why the rush to send her away from me, brother?” he asked smoothly. “Gabriel told me she already knows what we are. And as your wife, shouldn’t she at least try to get closer to her biological family? Or are you afraid of what she might find?”
Logan gritted his teeth. “How I handle my family is none of your concern. Your majesty,” Logan red at Sebastian. “Go on. Get her out of here.”
Hearing this, Emery looked at Logan. “Are you going to be…”
“I will be,” Logan nodded. “I’ll see youter,”

Sebastian escorted her towards the car. The moment the car doors shut, Emery sank into the seat, still feeling the weight of Logan’s re and Daemon’s mocking smile.
This was her first time meeting the so–called generous and benevolent King, yet something about Daemon already made her uneasy. She disliked him. Not with the same intensity she reserved for Gabriel, but enough that she couldn’t ignore it.
Sebastian started the engine but nced at her through the mirror. “Don’t be scared,” he said. “They act like that, but at the end of the day, they’re still brothers.”
Emery nodded. She had too many questions about Daemon and Logan’s family, questions she knew only Logan could answer. For now, all she could do was wait.
“They say every family has its problems,” Sebastian added after a moment. “But with werewolves, it’s worse. Family dynamics are…plicated.”
Emery’s mind shed back to Gabriel. She gave a small nod. “I’ve noticed.”
Sebastian’s hands tightened on the steering wheel. “The Alpha King publicly disowned Logan as his brother. That wasn’t just personal. It was political. The High Council forced his hand. This was public knowledge, so I thought you should know.”
Emery frowned. The mention of the Council immediately pulled her thoughts back to what Logan had told her about them, their reach, their hidden control, and how they might have been involved in erasing her mother’s past.
“Why did the Alpha King have to do that?” she asked.
Sebastian sighed. “Because of what Logan is. He’s the bridge that connects werewolves to the human world. Without him, the Kingdom wouldn’t be able to survive long–term. That role is too powerful, too easy to exploit. A king could use it to control both humans and werewolves. So, a long time ago, the High Council made a rule. The one who serves as the bridge cannot be tied by blood to the Alpha King. No exceptions.”
Emery blinked, struggling to process it.
“That’s why King Daemon had to do it,” Sebastian went on. “To keep that bridge intact, he sacrificed Logan’s name. He denied their bloodline in public, cut him out of the ancestry book, and erased him from the family records.”
Her chest tightened. She couldn’t even imagine what Logan had gone through, growing up with that weight, carrying the family’s survival while being erased from it.
Sebastian’s voice hardened. “And here’s the part most don’t know. Logan was the one who made Daemon king. He fought with him against their other brothers and sisters, secured his throne, and gave him the strength to hold it. It was Daemon himself who acknowledged Logan as his brother in the first ce. And it was Daemon whoter struck his name from the book.”
Sebastian shook his head. “If that isn’t betrayal, I don’t know what is.”

Emery stared out the window, the city lights blurring as the car moved. Her hands tightened against herp. For the first time, she wondered how many scars Logan carried that she couldn’t see.
Emery’s jaw tightened. Logan had fought beside Daemon, helped him win the throne, and this was the thanks he received, his name erased from their own bloodline?
Sebastian’s voice cut into her thoughts. “That’s why the King will nevery a hand on him. The King is known for giving Logan whatever he wants. And yes, that includes killing alphas that offended him in any way. This was akin topensation.”
Emery’s eyes narrowed. “Because he already hurt him more than anyone else ever could.” So much for being known as generous and benevolent King. Indeed, the victor can write whatever history they wanted ito /iwrite.
