The Runaway Huntress
Chapter 141 - 140
CHAPTER 141: CHAPTER 140
Chapter140
Melisca made a mistake of being cornered by the hunters. She was out of strength anymore, but she had to push herself more because her friends were all down.
She saw that the committees and the leader of the hunters entered the room as well. A line of hunters was in front of them. She looked back to the other side from where they entered. Carmen stood up and was getting to Nesa. The woman still had a fight with her. The prince could have healed her. It was the only possible reason. But she noticed something in the woman’s hair.
The hunters started firing again, but this time, it was bullets instead of needles. She had run out of ammo earlier, and she was just grabbing another weapon from the enemy she’d killed. She couldn’t get near them without getting shot because she was limited in her human skills. And she had already pushed it too far even knowing how the odds were not in her favor this time.
She fought her way out of the hunters that had circled her. She jumped on one of them and twisted his arm as she stole his gun from his hand, and she immediately fired at the enemies.
She pulled his body and made him her meat shield, but she was moving too slow, and there were hunters behind her also. She grunted as the man was thrashing in her hold. She shot his leg, and he stopped moving. She pushed him since he was too heavy to drag around.
Melisca ran to the other aisle. She wanted to get to her parents, but there were too many obstacles. Too many mortals barricading her way. She stumbled on her feet as one of the hunters that were lying on the ground caught her ankle.
"Fuck!" She almost fell face-first, but she had maneuvered and let her shoulder take the impact. She kicked at the girl’s head and aimed her gun at the crook of the female hunter’s neck. "Now you’re dead." She hissed and pulled herself up.
The laboratory was in total disarray. Chairs, tables, equipment, apparatus, papers, and other materials scattered all around. Broken glasses littered on the tables and on the floor. Blood stained the ground from the leaking wounds of the fallen hunters. The lab doctors stayed flat on the floor to not get caught by the raging gunfire.
Melisca got to cover Carmen, who was bringing Nesa to the prince’s side. She made herself seen so the hunters would attack her. She was surrounded. She couldn’t get them down fast enough. All of them were pointing at her.
She was whirling here and there, but she couldn’t keep up with only her mortal capabilities. Too many enemies and too few of them fighting. They would have been able to ease their way in and way out if only there weren’t any poisons for the likes of them. It was just utterly unfair.
Bullets were coming at her, but she was slowing down.
"Liz! Watch out!"
They could have hit her from behind, but Lorna came to shield her from it.
As if in slow motion, Melisca caught Lorna, who was about to fall on her. Lorna’s face was in shock from the pain.
"Lorna! What are you doing?!" She shouted angrily at the girl.
"Get me the hybrid no matter what!" The general’s voice boomed all over the room despite the disaster that was happening. "Get Calicia Wymers or Melisca Lorwey alive! Kill anyone who gets in the way!"
Then Lorna felt another shot below her back.
"Stop!" Melisca roared at the hunters.

But another shot was coming, and this time she whirled Lorna around and covered her.
"Ah!" She grunted as a bullet finally got her. It was in her left shoulder.
"Melisca!" Carmen called from a distance. "Take cover!" Carmen took over the attention and started attacking the enemies. She had some of her strength, but she couldn’t use it recklessly. However, the situation called for it.
Melisca pulled Loriena to one of the aisles. She laid her on the floor gently. The girl was catching her breath and wincing from the pain. Her face was in total agony. She knew the girl wasn’t used to getting hurt by bullets. But she took them for her. And she was mad about it.
Anger from her stupidity boiled inside her. "What are you doing?!" She couldn’t help but roar at her. She moved her body to the side to check the wounds in her back, but Lorna held her hand, and she refused to move. She looked at the girl’s face.
One thing came up in her mind. Rage. Pure rage. For the girl and her godforsaken family. Her jaw was set hard, and she dared to look the girl in the eyes. There were tears running down Lorna’s cheeks, and Melisca knew what was about to happen. But she refused to let it happen. She had her own wound a little behind her shoulder, but she could barely feel it from the numbing hatred that she was feeling.
"I won’t let you die here, Loriena." She said and tried to move her to the side again. "In all occasions, why do you have to be stupid at this very moment?" Her teeth gritted in an accusing tone. Lorna was shaking her head, not wanting to comply with her, but she managed to turn her to her side anyway.
She wasn’t exactly an expert in treating wounds because she had her own healing ability. But anyone could tell that despite anything, blood loss was fatal enough. And in Lorna’s case, she was on the brink of death. "What have you done?! You don’t have to do that. You shouldn’t have done that!" Her anger mounted in frustration. She raised her head and looked around her. The prince could heal her. But there was too much chaos to bring him to their side.
Lorna held her hand to get Liz’s attention. The pain in her body was too much for her to handle. She wasn’t like her friend, who was strong, competent, and a proud woman. She wasn’t like Melisca. She would never be.
"Why did you do it?!" Melisca couldn’t help but asked her. She refused to think that this girl really had genuine thoughts of her. Doesn’t she have another agenda of befriending her? Why would she risk her mortal life for someone like her?
Lorna took a deep breath and tried to make a smile but she was failing. "Because you’re my friend." She swallowed hard. "My cousin... family." Another tears ran down the side of her face.
