Chapter 144 - 143
CHAPTER 144: CHAPTER 143
Chapter 143
Melisca’s eyebrows furrowed in confusion upon seeing the woman in wherever they were.
Tyle glanced at the other ones who were sprawled on the floor, recuperating or hanging on their lives. She couldn’t care about it. She turned to the remaining girl on her feet, who was taken aback by the look of surprise in her eyes.
"Where are they?!" She snapped, wanting an answer from no one in particular. At last, she stepped up to her and held her arm to get the girl’s attention. She was still swimming in her own thoughts. She needed answers right now. "Where are your parents, Melisca? Where are they?!" She repeated.
That made the girl blink and look at her again. Melisca’s jaw was shaking, and she slowly turned her head from side to side.
Tyla retreated from her in an instant, mouth hanging open in utter disbelief and disappointment. "You left them?" Then she turned to Carmen. She stalked over to her and pulled her arm. She didn’t care if the girl was dying. "Carmen!" She shook her to make her talk. Carmen winced from the pain of her grip, but she had no strength to fight her off. "You failed."
Carmen eyed her. She was seeing her with her eyelids half open. She didn’t have to say it out loud that she failed to bring the people she wanted her to rescue by assisting Melisca.
"And our deal is off." Tyla whirled around after she slightly shoved her to the wall, which bumped her head and worsened the headache she felt.
Tyla moved back to Melisca. Her steps were thunderous as well as her glare. Her chest was about to burst in upsetting rage from the complete failure in everything. "You!" She held Melisca’s forearm and made her turn around to face her. "You ruined everything." Her body was completely shaking in anger. Her teeth were gritting so hard as she spat the words with resentment. "You failed me. You failed your parents!"
Melisca’s mouth gaped open. Before, she had lost her strength, but now, it came back with a slap from the white-haired woman who was spouting angrily at her. She took her arm from her grip and retreated to distance herself from her before she could do something else from talking to her like she knew everything. Like she knew her life.
"Who are you to say those things to me?! And why are you even here? Are you here to get us back? Because this time, you won’t have any one of us to bring with you. I could easily kill you with my bare hands." She threatened because she remembered that the woman was the one who caught an escapee before.
Tyla’s hands clenched as her face reddened. She could only see red. Her chest was rising and falling rapidly. She was trying to even out her breathing.
"Do you have other hunters here with you? Are they hiding somewhere around? I’d just kill you then while they were out there." Melisca came forward and was about to grab the woman’s throat, but Tyla was faster than her. It was because the woman wasn’t worn out from any activity, unlike Melisca.
Tyla slapped Melisca’s face so hard that the sound reverberated inside the cave. She couldn’t totally blame this girl that she didn’t know anything about her. But she was just out of control about the outcome from all that happened. "How dare you threaten me! You have no rights, especially since you’ve failed to get them here." Her head was about to burst from how disappointed and angry she was. Tears of rage escaped in her eyes unconsciously.
Melisca couldn’t talk back at that because the woman was right. She had failed to take her parents out. It doesn’t matter why she was talking to her like that because the outcome was the most important. In the end, she failed. That was it.
"All the sacrifices I’ve made. All the years of planning to wait at this very moment, and you just failed!" Tyla couldn’t control herself; she held the woman’s jacket to pull Melisca, and she shoved her away.
Melisca was barely able to stay on her feet from the woman’s push. It made her retreat a few steps, but she still couldn’t look her in the eye as she silently swallowed hard the lump in her throat. But her curiosity picked up on what she said. "Plan?" She dared a look in Tyla’s direction. The woman was all ready to go berserk on her any second. "What plan?"
Tyla turned around as she snorted at the question and laughed sarcastically. She shook her head from the ridiculous failure. Then she whipped back to face the daughter of her best friend.
"Didn’t you wonder where your name came from?" She started. The woman had to understand how she put every effort she made to waste. "Why were you called Calicia Wymers by the others, but you know yourself as Melisca Lorwey?"
Melisca’s brows furrowed. Confusion was etched all over her face, but there was also dread from what she was going to hear.
"I tampered with your memory, Melisca. Your father asked me to so that you wouldn’t worry that your mother was taken. Having her killed in your memory was the easiest way for you to cope with everything as a child."
Melisca sharply took a breath as she felt like she was punched in the gut again. All the strength she had regained was gone as well. It was sucked out of her body. She staggered back and let herself sit on a huge rock formation behind her. She couldn’t stay on her feet, and she felt that those were just the first revelations from the woman.
"How... How did you do it?" She spared a glance at her again. "And why do you know my parents? Who are you to them? To us?" She knew that she wasn’t part of her family. She just felt that they couldn’t be sharing the same blood. But then again, what if they really do because from her tampered memory again that she didn’t know things. A lot of things.
