CHAPTER 146: CHAPTER 145

Chapter 145

She erased Melisca’s memory of her because it was the best for the visions she had seen. Her Talent was seeing glimpses of the future. But it was only a random peek. It wasn’t even in accordance with an event. She’d seen before that Cabril’s home was about to be attacked, so she called him, but it was too late. When he got home, Melicia was gone. And that’s when Cabril asked her to help him with his daughter’s trauma.

From then on, Tyla had been with Melisca. She helped in training her, as Cabril was busy with work and finding where his wife was taken. She was against it. And when Melisca turned eighteen, she had enough of his dangerous espionage, and he was gone in almost a month. She had been the guardian of his daughter. And since he wouldn’t listen to her, she left when he came back. That was a day before Melisca’s 18th birthday. She left them.

She’d thought that he would focus on his daughter then. That Cabril would think twice before going on a search for his wife again. Then after a few days, they visited where Melicia was buried in Melisca’s fake knowledge. That was the day they went into the cabin up in the mountain.

And just then, Tyla had another vision while she was on her way out of the city. She was seeing Cabril’s body sprawled on the ground with blood pooling around him from the wound in his chest. She knew where he was from the surroundings, and she also saw the wolves who shot him. She called him to warn them, but they were not answering. So, she immediately made her way to the forest, up to the mountain, hoping she wasn’t too late.

But then again, she was. That was the most terrifying scene in her entire life, seeing his lifeless body. And without any hesitation, she had given him her being. Her immortality in exchange for his second life. But he wasn’t a wolf anymore. He was human. His wolf inside had died, and there was nothing she could do, as the wound he got wasn’t a mortal one. It was magic. The bullet was made of something else. It was made by the witches, by her own kind.

Along with losing her immortality, she also lost her powers. From being a witch, she turned into a human as well. Her blonde hair turned white.

Then she’d convinced him to leave Melisca alone. To let him die in her memory so that she could grow strong on her own. Cabril was contemplating it, but then she made a deal with him that she’d help him search for his wife if he would lay low for some time first. To plan everything before reuniting with Melisca again.

They went to another city, and Tyla left him for just a day to go with her sister. To know who made a poison for the werewolves that were already banned under the current queen. She did not get her answers, and when she came back for him, he was gone. And she knew who took him.

She’d never thought that they’d find him from where they were. She thought that what she’d seen from one of her visions before would be changed. But no. It didn’t change anything at all. Fate couldn’t be played. It was the other way around. Fate was the one playing with them.

But though it happened, she didn’t give up. She gathered all her visions from before and tried to analyze them. She’d seen in one of them that Melisca had joined the organization. She’d seen a glimpse of a cage fight too. That was when the girl was against Nesa. And then Cabril, who was running in a tunnel and escaped to the forest, was caught and had been shot again. At first, she didn’t understand what it was about. But she’d search for the hunters on her own and then join them. To see Cabril and rescue him in the future.

That was when he tried to escape in her first year with the hunters; she was the one who caught him. She did it before anyone shot him dead again, and she wouldn’t be able to do anything about it. From then on, she had hope that she could continue to change what was supposed to happen. That she could outsmart fate.

She even hired a faerie, Carmen, to increase their chance of escape. She made her try teleporting in Cabril and Melicia’s cells, but she couldn’t. She didn’t know why it wouldn’t work. So she was back to her only chance, their daughter, Calicia, now known as Melisca.

Tyla did everything to assist the girl from behind the organization’s knowledge. She had provided her with one of the most special weapons. She was the one who gave her blades the permission that she could use them in the camp. She had also given her information about an escape route, faked the Death Tracker in her arm, and tasked Carmen to assist her when she finally decided to make her move. She had given her every help she needed on the way.

She knew this day would come and was anticipating it. But then, all the years of staying with the hunters and the patience she had long stretched had just gone down the drain. So that was why she was freaking mad at the girl. She had put her last faith in her, but she failed her, ruining everything.

Hot, angry tears had fallen from her eyes again. "You know what? This couldn’t have happened. This shouldn’t be happening if only you weren’t born, Calicia Wymers."

Melisca’s breath hitched as her mouth fell open from what she was hearing. There was too much resentment in Tyla’s voice, and her eyes were void of anything aside from hurt. And it seemed like the woman never thought that she was hurting too.

"If Cabril didn’t meet your mother." Tyla stepped in front of her, and that made Melisca automatically retreat. She stumbled her body on a rock, and she let herself down on it. "Out of all the wolves, why him? Why was he given a human mate?" Her reproachful words stung her whole being. "He didn’t deserve to suffer such hardship from having a family. From having you."

Melisca’s jaw quivered as she averted her gaze from Tyla, and her own tears escaped uncontrollably. The woman was right. Why did she exist if all she had caused was suffering for the people around her? Why was she ever born?

She couldn’t breathe anymore. The place was getting smaller and smaller, trapping her. She stood up in a daze, even if she was staggering, she took a step to move away from the woman. She retreated until she was out of the cave and ran away from everyone. Tears hot on her face. She didn’t want to hear it anymore, or her ears could have bled from such words.

Tyla remained looking at the entrance of the cave. It was silent for a moment.

"You shouldn’t have said that." Nesa finally made a sound.

Tyla didn’t respond to that, and instead she whirled around to face the people left inside. Carmen and the prince were sitting together with an arm’s length between them at one side of the cave. Zavien’s eyes were closed while Carmen’s were half-open. "Let’s get out of here before the hunters reach this place."
