CHAPTER 487: CHAPTER 434 ALWAYS THINKING ABOUT IT

Zhuo Yuqing and Bai Chengxi returned from the hospital already past midnight, their assistant had come to pick them up, and afterwards, they returned to the villa where Bai Chengxi lived.

The assistant helped bring some medications prescribed by the doctor into the room and then went to the kitchen to prepare a late-night snack. Aunt Tian had already gone to bed, so everyone did not disturb her.

Zhuo Yuqing thought Bai Chengxi’s assistant was simply omnipotent, adept both in the hall and the kitchen; such talent is indeed rare these days.

"Miss Zhuo, the food is ready. I will be heading back now." The assistant, dressed neatly, stood at the doorway, not looking at all like someone who had just emerged from the kitchen.

"Thank you for your hard work." Zhuo Yuqing saw him out the door, "It’s so late at night, and yet we’ve troubled you; I’m really sorry."

"No worries, I am Mr. Bai’s assistant; it’s my duty to do these things."

After seeing the assistant off, Zhuo Yuqing brought the food up on a tray. Tonight, he hadn’t eaten and had lost so much blood; he must be hungry by now.

Upon opening the door, Bai Chengxi was lying on the bed headboard, with injuries on his back, unable to lie flat on his back.

"Time for dinner." Zhuo Yuqing approached, set the tray down, and sat on a chair beside him. "Let me help you sit up."

"Mhm." Bai Chengxi put down his tablet.

"Don’t use the computer so late; it’s bad for your eyes," Zhuo Yuqing said, as she helped him sit up. Bai Chengxi was wrapped in thick bandages, underneath which traces of blood could be faintly seen seeping through, a sight that looked painfully tender.

The assistant had prepared lean meat porridge, with a little diced ham and vegetables; it looked very appetizing.

"Feed me." Bai Chengxi leaned against the bedhead, expecting her to do so as a matter of course.

Seeing that he was sick, Zhuo Yuqing indulged him and scooped up a spoonful of porridge to his mouth. "Open up."

He obediently opened his mouth and ate, all the while staring intently at her until she felt embarrassed and frowned: "Why do you keep staring at me? I’m not porridge."

"I’ve just thought of a very serious question."

"What?" He looked so serious that Zhuo Yuqing hummed in curiosity. "What serious question?"

Just about to speak, another spoonful of porridge was fed to him. Zhuo Yuqing was definitely doing it on purpose, feeding him spoonful after spoonful, hardly giving him a chance to swallow. Eventually, Bai Chengxi had to put up his hands in surrender, mouth bulging and words unclear: "I dare not, I dare not."

"Hmph." Zhuo Yuqing picked up the empty bowl. "That’ll shut you up, and stop you from talking nonsense."

Bai Chengxi swallowed the porridge in his mouth and chuckled, "The porridge is gone. What will you use to shut my mouth now?"

"I think using your mouth is better; it’s convenient and fast..."

Before Bai Chengxi could finish, Zhuo Yuqing stuffed the spoon into his mouth and snorted: "This method is even more convenient."

Zhuo Yuqing took the used bowl and utensils downstairs. When she returned to the room, Bai Chengxi was still on the computer. Zhuo Yuqing went over and took the computer away: "The doctor said you need to rest and shouldn’t look at it anymore."

Bai Chengxi obediently nodded his head: "Time to sleep."

At that thought, Zhuo Yuqing’s mood also lightened. She turned her head to look, and there Bai Chengxi was, gazing at her with bright, lucid eyes.

He lay there, propped up on his arms, tilting his head to look at her, showing no sign of sleepiness.

"Why haven’t you slept yet?" Zhuo Yuqing moved closer to his side, facing him, their breath mingling, so close that she could see her own sparkling eyes reflected in his pupils, "Is it because the pain is keeping you awake?"

"A little." The effect of the local anesthetic had worn off, making the area around the wound unbearably painful, but the real reason keeping him awake wasn’t the pain,

"I’ll go get some painkillers," Zhuo Yuqing said, getting ready to rise, mentioning the painkillers included in the medication the doctor prescribed, to be taken when the pain became unbearable.

"No need." Bai Chengxi raised an arm to grasp her, "You don’t have to get the medicine, just lying down next to me is enough."

"Am I better than medication?" Zhuo Yuqing laughed as she lay down beside him, her head resting on his pillow, their heads touching, noses almost brushing together.

"You’re better than medication; medication has side effects, but being with you only leaves one longing for more."

"Bai Chengxi, were you always so improper before?"

"No, I only started being improper after meeting you."

His shamelessness left Zhuo Yuqing feeling somewhat helpless as she blinked her thin eyelids twice, "How did you hear those rumors?"

"Heard it in your office. That woman named Tong Bi, does she often cause you trouble?"

"She’s pretty annoying, but every company has such people. You get used to it." Zhuo Yuqing gossiped as she lay beside him, "And you know, she’s even having an affair with our chief editor. But considering how vicious he looked today, I don’t know if he was trying to impress you or if he’s had a fallout with her. I almost burst out laughing at the time."

"Your company may be small, but it sure has its complexities," Bai Chengxi liked this kind of conversation with her, so homely and casual. No wonder everyone raves about the power of ’pillow talk.’ He believed that, right now, no matter what Zhuo Yuqing said, he would trust her and fulfill her wishes.

"There are even more interesting things." Zhuo Yuqing excitedly whispered into his ear, "One of our colleagues just had a son, and he secretly went for a paternity test. Guess what happened?"

"Is the child his?" Bai Chengxi casually guessed.

Zhuo Yuqing shook her head in disbelief, "How did you know? You’re so amazing."

Bai Chengxi: "..."

It was just a wild guess.

"Isn’t it unbelievable? But I’ve seen the colleague’s father, he’s very handsome and dashing."

She talked non-stop about the amusing happenings in her company, and he was always keenly listening. Things that would have been of no interest to him suddenly became fascinating through her stories.

As a result, both of them chatted about everything under the sun as if they could never run out of topics, and before they knew it, dawn was breaking.

"Let’s sleep." Today we can be lazy, I think your chief editor won’t deduct your salary."

Zhuo Yuqing was also feeling sleepy, but before going to bed, she fiddled with her phone for a moment.

"What are you doing?"

"Not telling you." Zhuo Yuqing kissed him, "Go to sleep."

The couple stayed up late talking yesterday, and Bai Chengxi fell asleep quickly. He wasn’t in the habit of sleeping in, usually waking up on time at six o’clock, but today was exceptionally peaceful and quiet, and he was reluctant to leave the comfort of the big bed.

When he finally opened his eyes, the sunlight was already warmly illuminating the room. He was lying on his stomach, and as he opened his eyes, he could see the place beside him, but to his surprise, Zhuo Yuqing wasn’t there. The spot where she slept last night was empty.

Bai Chengxi propped himself up, and a slight movement pulled at the wound on his body, causing him to inhale sharply from the pain.

After a while, he got out of bed and found his slippers.

Before he could even leave the room, Zhuo Yuqing came in, wrapped in a thick coat, her head topped with a white knitted hat, her big eyes black and shiny. It looked like she had just come in from outside, carrying the chill of a winter’s day.

"Time for breakfast." Zhuo Yuqing put down the bag she was holding onto the table, then went into the cloakroom to take off her clothes.

"Did you go out to buy breakfast?" Bai Chengxi was surprised, she, who never gets up until the sun is high, actually woke up early to buy breakfast. He suddenly remembered her fiddling with her phone before going to sleep last night; she must have been setting an alarm.

"It’s really cold outside." Zhuo Yuqing, rubbing her hands, came over very cheerfully and started unpacking the takeout bags, "Hurry up and wash up, I bought your favorite barbecue pork buns, and Aunt Tian made porridge."

Bai Chengxi, however, stood there unmoved, his gaze soft and infinitely tender. Even such a small gesture, when she does anything for him, it fills him with joy. For one person to change a habit that’s been years in the making for another is truly precious. Even though she’s still a bit of a bed-hugger, she still accompanies him to jog, and buys him breakfast. She might not be perfect, but in his eyes, she’s as flawless as a crystal.

Bai Chengxi walked over and hugged her from behind, his slightly pointed chin resting on her slender shoulders: "Thank you, my wife."

His magnetic voice carried emotion so tender it made her heart tremble, giving her the feeling of being cherished and needed. Zhuo Yuqing turned and kissed his face: "You’re welcome, my husband."

Zhuo Yuqing playfully slapped him: "Go and wash up."

Really, always thinking of nothing but romance.
