The Scheming Ex-Husband's Courtship
Chapter 488 - 435: Heaven Will Take Its Course
CHAPTER 488: CHAPTER 435: HEAVEN WILL TAKE ITS COURSE
Bai Chengxi got injured, and Zhuo Yuqing took a leave to take care of him at home. Actually, he didn’t really need any care; he was quite dexterous with his hands and feet, and there was no hindrance in eating or drinking, and even less so in "eating tofu."
Not only that, but he shamelessly used his injury as an excuse to ask for care, a bath, and massages.
Zhuo Yuqing, being good-tempered, indulged him. She met all his demands, buzzing around him like a busy little bee.
"Next month it will be the Timeless Beauty International Film Festival," Zhuo Yuqing checked the time on the computer, "is there any insider news you can share?"
Bai Chengxi unusually took a break from work and was watching a ballgame in bed. Hearing her, he silently looked over: "Do you want the list of winners?"
Zhuo Yuqing almost bit her tongue, looking at him incredulously: "Isn’t it said that the awards are judged and announced on the same day? How do you know now?"
"Silly child, that’s all a deception, it’s all arranged behind the scenes." Bai Chengxi beckoned with his fingers, "Come here."
Zhuo Yuqing put down the computer and walked over, and with his long arm around her, she fell into his arms.
Zhuo Yuqing couldn’t help but laugh. Being an entertainment reporter was really a time and effort saver for her; without stepping out of the house, she knew all the entertainment industry’s affairs and could dominate all the headlines in the magazine office thereafter.
Being close to the water tower gets the moon first; how could Zhuo Yuqing not use such a great resource? That would be foolish.
She leaned her head in and gave him a peck on the face, coaxingly asking, "Any insider tips?"
Bai Chengxi thoroughly enjoyed her sycophantic demeanor, whispered mysteriously: "The insider tip is, I’m a judge."
Zhuo Yuqing felt played: "That piece of news isn’t very useful to me."
"Then give me another kiss, and I’ll tell you another piece of news." Bai Chengxi grinned mischievously, looking like he was up to no good.
Zhuo Yuqing didn’t fall for it this time, "First the news."
"First a kiss."
"First the news."
He looked at her faintly for a while, then suddenly pounced and pressed his lips directly to hers, kissing her like a ravenous wolf.
Zhuo Yuqing didn’t expect him to suddenly be forceful; she wanted to push him but dared not touch his wounds, so she let him kiss her thoroughly.
The well-fed and watered man finally licked his lips contentedly and said with a smile, "This year’s best actor is not Xi Yang."
Indeed, this was shocking news. Zhuo Yuqing had done some research; Xi Yang’s big-budget film "Timeless Beauty" this year had a very high call and he was almost unanimously seen as the favorite for Best Actor, with only the top star from Starlight, Qi Shen, being able to compete with him.
Although Zhuo Yuqing knew this heavy news, naturally, she couldn’t report it as these kinds of things involve too many backstories and often lead to a domino effect. Bai Chengxi told her just to satisfy her curiosity.
"What about best actress, is it Su Yingluo?"
Bai Chengxi shook his head: "Not her, she hasn’t been back in the country long and doesn’t have a significant film yet. However, the organizers mentioned she would attend, apparently as an award presenter."
Having said that, Bai Chengxi watched her intently for a while: "Why are you so interested in her?"
"Just asking casually; maybe because I just interviewed her, I got a bit interested." Zhuo Yuqing shook his arm, "These are all too heavy, give me something lighter."
"Can do." He smiled faintly, "Under one condition..."
Zhuo Yuqing’s eyes widened, she warned through gritted teeth: "Bai, don’t you push it too far."
"Haha," Bai Chengxi laughed out loud,
"Let’s hear it."
"Won’t tell you." He laughed again, "That’s confidential."
Zhuo Yuqing scoffed and turned her head forcefully: "I don’t even want to hear."
Just then, Aunt Tian came up to call them for dinner. Zhuo Yuqing found a coat for Bai Chengxi to wear in case he got cold, even though the air conditioning in the room was just at the right temperature - he was only wearing a thin t-shirt to prevent scraping his injuries.
Their little life together was quite enjoyable. Before long, Zhuo Yuqing’s week-long leave was up, and it was time to return to work; otherwise, it would truly look like abuse of privilege.
The day Zhuo Yuqing got back to the magazine, Liu Lian came bouncing up: "Yuqing, I heard that President Bai personally came to pick you up after work, is that right?"
Liu Lian had recently been on a business trip out of town and had just returned yesterday, so she was completely unaware of the major event that had happened at the newspaper.
Zhuo Yuqing slapped her forehead lightly: "Yeah."
"Oh my, it must have been quite a sight," Liu Lian blinked her starry eyes,
Speaking of Tong Bi, Zhuo Yuqing couldn’t help but ask curiously: "Did she really go to the printing department?"
"Yes, we all received the email sent out. Tong Bi was transferred to the printing department. I saw her yesterday, she looked all grimy and had lost her usual arrogance. She walked around as if ashamed, avoiding everyone."
Liu Lian felt a sense of satisfaction thinking about Tong Bi’s condition,
As if on cue when mentioning someone, just as they were talking, they heard the sound of high heels. Tong Bi, carrying a stack of freshly printed magazines, walked over. She noticed Zhuo Yuqing standing there at a glance. A strong sense of unwillingness and jealousy flashed across her eyes as she approached and sneered at Zhuo Yuqing, "Just because you snagged a rich man? Try achieving something on your own merit. Even if you become the deputy editor, it’s only because you have a president for a husband who can’t be offended."
Zhuo Yuqing was unfazed by her provocation, "I rely on my own abilities, and finding a good husband is also a skill. If you can’t find one yourself, don’t be jealous of others."
"Jealous of you? Aside from marrying a rich man, what do you have that I could possibly be jealous of? I will definitely have what you have, and acquire anything you can get. Zhuo Yuqing, fortune changes in ten years. I don’t believe you can keep this arrogance forever."
Zhuo Yuqing smiled lightly: "Alright then, I’ll wait for your ten years."
"Yuqing, let’s not stoop to her level. Let’s go," Liu Lian said as she pulled her towards the pantry, leaving Tong Bi stomping her feet in anger behind them.
Zhuo Yuqing took a week off and had a backlog of work piling up. She was busy catching up when a message popped up. She thought it was Bai Chengxi, who was also back at work today.
Picking up her phone, she saw the message was from Xi Yang.
"Junior sister, what are you planning to do for the Lantern Festival?"
Only then did Zhuo Yuqing remember that tomorrow was the Lantern Festival. In Aus City, it was a traditional festival celebrated by everyone, no wonder Aunt Tian had bought so many rice balls back.
"Going home for the festival. What about you, senior?" Zhuo Yuqing replied to the message and then continued clattering away at her computer keyboard.
Soon, Xi Yang replied: "There’s no schedule for the Lantern Festival, and I wanted to find someone to go view lanterns."
Zhuo Yuqing stared at the message for a while, not sure if Xi Yang was suggesting they go together. Regardless of his intentions, she had already promised Granny to go back home and join her for rice balls on Lantern Festival.
"What kind of person do you want to go with, senior? Do you want me to arrange someone for you?"
Xi Yang: "I originally wanted to ask junior sister, but since you’re going home to be with your family, I will find someone else."
"Sorry, sorry."
"I happen to be at the coffee shop outside your magazine’s office, the same one you came to last time. Have time for a casual lunch at noon?" As if fearing her rejection, Xi Yang jokingly added: "You did say you’d treat me to a meal."
Zhuo Yuqing actually still had a lot of work unfinished, and she had planned to grab a roll for lunch. But since Xi Yang had put it that way, she had no excuse to refuse. Especially since Xi Yang had just given her a big scoop last time, which would definitely boost her bonus this month. Treating him to a meal was the least she could do.
Zhuo Yuqing replied with an ’okay’ and began to tidy up her desk. Her partition’s memo board was already filled with notes. She was about to tear it down and toss it when her hand reached out and saw a line of writing not in her handwriting, bold and distinctive.
Behind her writing it read: Still likes the color sky blue.
This... Is this Bai Chengxi’s handwriting? Like him, it was bold and refreshing, seemed fresh yet imposing.
He didn’t own many sky-blue items, so she didn’t know he liked sky blue.
Zhuo Yuqing’s lips curved into a smile as she took the small sticky note down, looked at it over and over again before slipping it into her notebook. To her, anything with his touch was precious.
Zhuo Yuqing headed directly to the café downstairs and went to the private room Xi Yang mentioned, where he was already ordering drinks and looking at the menu.
"Senior, sorry to keep you waiting." Zhuo Yuqing wore a beige woolen coat today, her hair tied in a simple bun. Her appearance brought a fresh, youthful vibe instantly.
Xi Yang looked up at her, smiling, "I’m quite free today, no rush. Did you run here?" He pulled out a tissue and handed it to her, "You’ve sweated."
"Thank you, senior." Zhuo Yuqing reached out for the tissue, and unintentionally touched Xi Yang’s fingers. She didn’t mind, but Xi Yang felt a small shock run through his body, prompting him to quickly retract his hand to avoid any embarrassment.
Zhuo Yuqing noticed a cup of Golden Tangerine Tea on the table and asked happily, "Senior, did you order this for me?"
"Yes, the weather’s a bit chilly, so I had them make it at room temperature. It may not taste as good, but drinking cold beverages is not good for the health, especially for girls." Xi Yang’s thoughtfulness and gentleness was unlike that of a big celebrity; he rather had the warm familiarity of the boy next door.
"Thank you, senior." Zhuo Yuqing held the cup and took a sip, not forgetting to give him a playful grin.
His clean and sincere smile momentarily dazzled Xi Yang, bringing back memories of the first time he met her, still vivid after all these years.
