Dark Jewel's Corner, Corpse Collectors HQ, the Siren's Den Street.

"Welcome aboard."

Malrick shook Kael's hand firmly, sealing their deal about employment, and finished drafting a short-term contract.

For starters, he was going to work for the Corpse Collectors for about six months, and he was going to be receiving commission from every delivery he participates in.

There wasn't a fixed income, so if he wanted to make money, he had to do the corpse deliveries.

With that done, they headed to the cellar of the building. It had a distinct smell of decay and dampness.

It looked like this cellar used to be a wine cellar, but now it was filled with rows of metal shelves stacked high with wooden crates.

The shelves had papers, so many that they almost spilled onto the floor, and there was a thick layer of dust covering everything.

"These are all the commissions that we've failed to deliver. There is one branch of Corpse Collectors in every main city and in some towns, but we've been swamped with work lately and haven't been able to keep up with demand.

"People just seem to keep dying."

Malrick said, reached his hand inside his coat, and pulled out a letter, then he gave it to Kael.

"You said that you want to take a delivery job as a test run, and yesterday, I think I received a decent one.

"It doesn't go too far out to the border, where there is a good chance of encountering danger. Instead, it's just a trip over to Gehram and back."

"Why don't Gehram's Corpse Collectors take this job?"

Kael asked curiously.

"It doesn't pay that much for the amount of traveling that is needed. You'll have to go by train to Gehram, pick up the corpse, and they will lend you a wagon.

"With that wagon, you must take the corpse over to Rask's Corpse Collectors, and they'll take it out of your hands.

"They will then deliver the corpse back to Earth."

Kael nodded, opened the letter, and had the information needed there to know about who he was going to pick up.

'A corpse of the Blessed One, who died in the Night of the Storm. It looks like he died from multiple stab wounds and then a bullet to the temple.'

Kael wasn't a detective, so he couldn't care less how he died, and it looked like it was a pretty safe trip.

He was just traveling between main cities, which should be as safe as it can get, but it's impossible to know what might happen.

After all, there had been many missing person's cases lately, even close to the main cities.

"I'll take it."

Kael said.

"Good. However, since you're new, you'll have someone else to go there with you. A senior member of the Corpse Collectors, and he'll teach you the ropes."

Malrick said and took Kael to the back alley—there, they saw a pale-faced man cleaning a dirty wagon with a sponge—it looked like this wagon was used in collecting bodies.

"Dorian!"

Malrick called him out, and Dorian flinched straight, then turned around with a sponge in hand and the black gaze of someone deeply depressed.

"Y-yes, boss?"

"A delivery request. Blessed One from Gehram, and it's urgent. You'll go with Kael over here. He is new, so teach him the ropes, got it?"

Malrick said.

"I-I just came back from a five-day trip…"

Dorian said with an exhausted look.

His buttocks hadn't even unnumbed themselves from the last trip, which was five days of sitting in a wagon, and he hadn't even cleaned the wagon out yet!

"This time around, you two can use the train to go over to Gehram. It will be about a day's trip with the train, so you have plenty of time to relax."

Malrick said, made sure that it was unnegotiable, and then headed back inside, letting the two get to know each other.

"Fuck…"

Dorian tossed the sponge inside the wagon, took out a thrown-out alcohol bottle from the ground, and filled it with some water from a nearby puddle.

The water looked dirty, like sewage water, and then, Dorian shook it around before sprinkling some powder from a small pouch into the bottle.

Strangely enough, the dirty water seemed clean now—it turned yellow and started foaming—and then Dorian took a swig from the bottle.

Kael's expression turned disgusted, thinking that he was just drinking some dirty puddle water, but then he tapped his forehead.

He ignored Dorian's Mind Image, which was pretty small either way, and looked at the information about his pathway.

[Name: Dorian Mott]

[Pathway: Alchemy]

[Level: 2]

[Class: Beer Brewer]

'I didn't think alchemy could be used this way. What a fascinating class. He can make beer out of anything, including the most unlikely ingredients.'

Kael thought with a smile, approached him while he was enjoying the beer, and put his hand forward for a handshake.

"My name is Kael Mizuchi. What an interesting class you have."

"Urgh…"

Dorian looked at him with an annoyed gaze, slapped his hand away, and then stood back up with the bottle in hand.

"You're the reason why I have to go to Gehram? I've just earned enough delivery trips to take a vacation, and I planned to waste it all to visit the Red Light District, but alas…"

"Isn't Gehram known as the City of Beer and Sex? To me, it sounds like the perfect place for you, and if you want to, we can spend an extra day there."

Kael said with a smile.

"Mmh…"

Dorian looked at him, took another swig, and then wiped the beer off his lips before he cracked a smile.

"You know what? That does sound pretty good. Let's do it!"

Kael chuckled, and with Dorian's lead, they went to Malrick to get the money for the train trip, as they didn't have to pay it for themselves.

It was going to be paid from the Corpse Collector's pocket.

After receiving their money, they took the first 'cab,' which was just a horse-drawn cart with a raggedy driver, and headed to the train station.
