The Smiling Death
Chapter 53: Sweet Time
CHAPTER 53: SWEET TIME
The whole town was silent and asleep. The market, shops, all places were closed. Families were sleeping peacefully in their houses.
The town was covered with peaceful moonlight. The bright moon hung high in the dark night with shimmering stars. Its light poured over the sleeping city, tracing rooftops and quiet streets with a gentle shimmer, while in the distance the forest stood bathed in the same glow—trees cloaked in soft radiance, their leaves gleaming like crystal under the night.
In the small garden of the orphanage house, Vixra and Amon were standing there, guarding the place.
It was their turn now while Selena and Jareth decided to rest on the first floor, looking after the children. They had to take turns every two hours.
Selena, Jareth, and Vixra, already being above Awakened rank, didn’t need much sleep. A few hours were enough. But the same could not be said for Amon. Still, he was awake.
"It’s a beautiful night. Even the place is so beautiful and peaceful," Vixra said with a calm expression. Her eyes focused on the scenery of the town and the night sky. Her face looked like someone feeling nostalgic.
"Well, I can’t deny that it’s truly a beautiful night..." He paused for a while and turned his face to look at his cute senior.
Then he continued, "...and having a beautiful lady beside me is just so perfect... like some blessing."
Of course, Amon didn’t let the chance go to woo her. He couldn’t stop himself from doing it.
Vixra’s warm, clear emerald eyes met Amon’s dark ones. Her silky pink hair, tied in a single braid, rested upon her shoulder. There was a small but mischievous smile on her face.
"Look at you~ Trying to flirt with your senior, whom you just met yesterday."
Amon’s lips twitched.
But then his face turned serious. With a straight face, Amon declared,
"Yes. Maybe it was the first time meeting you, but I am not trying to flirt. Rather, I am just being honest."
It was already past midnight, so yes, they had met yesterday. That didn’t mean he couldn’t try to flirt.
He turned to look up at the bright moon, his expression calm as he continued.
"Senior is truly one of the the most beautiful and gorgeous girl I have ever met. You are kind and gentle." Whatever he said was honest. He wasn’t lying at all.
After all, it was true that Vixra was a true beauty. She was quite famous in the Academy for that. If that wasn’t enough, her nature was also kind and warm, like some doting older sister.
And yes,
That’s why Amon didn’t have to worry. Even if he flirted, it wasn’t like she would punish him like some other woman with silver hair.
On the other hand, Vixra blushed. Her cheeks became hot, but there was still a smile on her face as she tried to hide her embarrassment.
She could see it. Amon was being honest, not just lying to butter someone up.
"You are really cheeky... but also a cute junior." She tried to make Amon shy.
Alas, Amon, shameless as ever, raised his head in pride.
"Thanks for the compliment. But I’d prefer if you called me handsome rather than cute."
Even though he was happy about it, he still wanted to be called handsome or charming, not cute.
’Hmph. These people sure don’t understand my handsomeness and charm.’
Vixra blinked at Amon’s face. His expression, filled with pride, actually looked comical for some reason. It seemed like he was trying to act cool.
"Hehehe..." Vixra chuckled, looking at that face.
"You really are cute... and handsome." She extended her hand toward Amon and stroked his head like that of a cute child.
This time Amon’s proud face crumbled. His ears turned pink. He felt embarrassed and humiliated.
’This is humiliation,’ Amon thought.
But seeing her warm, smiling face, he just clicked his tongue.
"Tsk."
’I’ll let it slide for now. Since she’s beautiful and it doesn’t feel that bad.’
Just trying to find some excuse. In reality, the man was really enjoying it. No way would he hate something like this from a girl like Vixra.
After patting Amon’s head, she took her hand back.
Amon, clearing his throat, said to her,
"I did not expect you to be so nice to me, a commoner."
He was surprised that she didn’t treat him badly for being a commoner.
’Now that I think about it... my friends at the Academy are also from noble families. One of them is a princess of elves. This is not how it should be. I should have been bullied by nobles. But there was none. I mean, there are still some students who talk behind my back.’
Reading lots of novels does have a bad effect on his head.
"Who said that I am a noble? I am also a commoner like you. Came from a normal village."
Amon could not believe his eyes. The beautiful and elegant girl in front of him was actually from a commoner family.
"You just don’t look like one. Your amazing looks give off the vibe of being from a noble family."
Vixra started to laugh while covering her mouth with her palm.
"Pftt... hahahaha."
"That’s a good reason I guess... Most people misunderstood me as a noble because of being friends with Selena. Anyway, I am from a village named Whiterun."
She looked at Amon and continued, her expression that of someone missing her home.
"I awakened a class related to magic... so my talent for magic was good. My parents were happy about it. There was a guildmaster in a nearby city, who was from our village. Seeing my talent, she gave me a recommendation letter for the Academy entrance exam. You can guess I passed the exam very easily."
She smiled widely.
"My father and mother were also delighted and happy for me. They think I will achieve something big in the future. I also have a little brother. He admires me a lot. So I need to be an amazing big sister."
Amon listened to her with a smile.
"Well, I know my senior will do an amazing job then. She’s the best Senior afterall."
Amon gave her a compliment.
"Thanks, Junior~"
She smiled at him.
The moonlight caressed her face with a gentle glow, softening every feature into something almost unreal.
Her smile was tender, carrying a quiet warmth that seemed to ease the night itself. When she looked up, her emerald eyes sparkled, drawing the world into their calm embrace.
Her hair swayed lightly with the breeze. In that moment, standing beneath the pale light, she looked truly beautiful.
Amon couldn’t help but admire her.
Like that, they continued to talk while still keeping an eye on their surroundings.
Even though Amon hadn’t known Vixra for a long time, meeting her just yesterday, he couldn’t help but feel closer to her.
For him, despite this being a serious mission, the moment strangely felt warm and enjoyable.
