CHAPTER 56: START OF THE BLOODY NIGHT

"Yawn!"

Amon yawned lazily in the small garden of the house. He was sitting on a normal wooden chair. better than standing.

Two days had already passed, yet there was no movement. Every night Amon and the others took turns watching over the orphanage.

It wasn’t that they didn’t try to investigate in town, they actually did. But they couldn’t find anything worthwhile.

They also had no idea what was really happening.

The town guards, who had tried to help Dawnhar, had also failed. That’s why they asked the academy for help.

He looked at the person beside him. She was none other than Selena.

Unfortunately, this time he wouldn’t get a chance to flirt with a beautiful girl. It wasn’t that Selena wasn’t beautiful because damn, she was cold.

Amon just shook his head, pushing that thought aside.

"It’s been two days. Nothing significant has happened. We’re not making any progress at all."

Selena didn’t reply for a while.

"Sigh..."

With a sigh, she continued, "This is the best we can do. There’s a reason why someone is kidnapping them. So maybe it will take time. But they will come, for sure."

Her eyes turned cold as she ran her hand through her long silver hair. The moonlight made it shine even more beautifully.

It was as if her hair reflected the moon’s light itself.

’She’s cool!’ Amon thought.

"You’re right, President. We should be patient," Amon said with a resolved face.

Selena just smiled at that.

"Yawn~"

Amon yawned again, rubbing his eyes with his hands.

Selena narrowed her eyes, gazing at his yawning face.

"You’re feeling a lot sleepier tonight compared to before."

Amon nodded. "Don’t know why, but I am feeling really sleepy tonight. It didn’t happen before though."

His eyelids grew heavy, as if sleep was seducing him.

Selena turned her face toward the house. Her intense gaze fell on the upper floor.

"Something’s wrong, Amon," she said, still staring at the house.

"Amon, it seems someone has come."

But when she turned back to him, she was met only with the sight of his sleeping form on the chair.

"Tsk—"

Clicking her tongue, she shot her hand forward, grasped Amon’s wrist, and pulled him.

"Wake up, boy!" She shook him wildly.

"Hmm... ahh... what happened,my sweety?" Amon mumbled with groggy eyes, still half asleep.

She knocked on his head in annoyance.

"Wake up, Amon! I am not your sweety!"

The impact was painful. All his drowsiness vanished in an instant.

"Not my sweet—Oh, President, I’m sorry about that." He apologized quickly.

But she didn’t listen. Still holding his wrist, she pulled Amon along as she started to run.

Surprised, Amon followed anyway. As they neared the house, she bent slightly.

Amon realized what she was about to do. "Wait a minut—!" he yelled, but it was already too late.

With a forceful push of her knees, Selena jumped directly to the upper floor’s window—still dragging him along.

"AHHH!"

Even though Amon himself could jump to the second floor, there was a difference between jumping by yourself and being dragged.

Selena landed perfectly on the window’s edge, pulling Amon up beside her.

What met their eyes was a humanoid figure. Its skin was covered entirely in black hair. Its body was like that of a gorilla, its facial features no different. Its eyes shone with bestial bloodlust.

The window opposite side to them was opened.

It was standing near one of the children’s bed, ready to snatch a child away.

The beast growled upon seeing Amon and Selena.

All the children were asleep. At the far end of the room, both Jareth and Vixra had also fallen asleep.

Amon hurriedly jumped into the room and summoned his sword. But before he could act, Selena vanished from her position and reappeared behind the beast.

Bang!

Her punch slammed into the monster’s gut. It screamed in pain as its heavy body flew through the air from the impact.

And it was flying directly toward Amon.

"What the hec—!" Amon ducked quickly as the monster’s body crashed outside through the room.

Thud!

Meanwhile, Selena vanished again, appearing near the sleeping forms of Jareth and Vixra.

Her palms connected with both their cheeks.

Jareth and Vixra groaned awake from the stinging slaps.

"Ahh!"

"Ha!"

Their eyes opened to the sight of Selena, who was already standing by the window beside Amon.

"It has come, the one who takes the children. Let’s follow it and find out what’s actually happening." Selena’s cold, commanding voice echoed through the room.

Jareth and Vixra flinched but quickly got to their feet. Without hesitation, they dashed toward the window.

Selena jumped out after the creature, toward the forest it had fled to.

Amon followed behind.

"Damn, she’s too fast!" Selena had already disappeared into the forest, while Amon struggled to keep up.

"What happened?" Jareth asked, his calm face now serious. He had caught up to Amon, with Vixra behind him.

Amon exhaled.

"Don’t know how, but I was feeling really sleepy. Not long after that, I just passed out."

They saw Selena’s figure running ahead as

they entered the forest.

He continued.

"Then suddenly she woke me up and dragged me along. When we entered the room, the gorilla-like monster was there. President punched it and then woke you both."

"Hmm... weird. I also felt lazy and dozy. I’ve never felt like that before, since we came here."

Vixra nodded, her emerald eyes worried, her pink braid bouncing as she ran.

"Same for me. I fell asleep before I even realized it."

As the trio rushed through the forest, keeping some distance from Selena, they continued.

"Guess President was right. It seems someone is controlling the monsters... making us feel drowsy," Vixra said thoughtfully.

’Well, the real thing is coming now. Hope it won’t be dangerous.’

Amon halted his steps. Jareth and Vixra also stopped.

The reason, Selena had ceased moving forward. Her eyes were fixed deep into the dark forest.

The forest was silent. Dark. Moonlight filtered faintly through the gaps in the leaves and branches. The wind rustled through the trees.

"They are here," Selena broke the silence.

Amon gripped his silver-blade sword tightly. Vixra summoned her wand. Jareth readied his sword and shield.

Through the darkness, they saw multiple pairs of bloody, glowing eyes filled with bloodlust.

There was only one word in Amon’s mind.

’Fuck!’
