CHAPTER 278: VACUSE BEGAN I

"Anyway, it won’t be long now before I make contact with their team. I’m close already," Kagerou promised.

Vacuse nodded. Contacting and knowing where Eloryna Stormhaven would be their setup for the next thing. That would make it possible to know what they would do. "Be quick about it. I doubt we’ll use more than one month here before we leave, with or without finding out about Eloryna Stormhaven."

His orders sank in, and they stiffened slightly. It wouldn’t be long before they went about closing the Great Dungeon.

"We’ll be ready when you are, Lord Vacuse. The dragon hunters are already five hundred strong, and we should be around seven hundred by the time you’re ready, with half of those armored and armed with encouragement."

"Good. Keep up the work. How’s our resource gathering going?"

"We’ve gotten everything on the list, and we’re even buying more. All the resources we found in every hunt are being held back and exchanged for money with the representatives," Captain Amros explained.

Vacuse wanted to take back to the real world any resources they found during their hunts. They would surely have use for them back home. "Good, good. But we’ll still need the Great Dungeon core to create a War Artifact."

The others looked at each other.

"My lord, we can only worry about that after we clear the Dungeon. There’s nothing we can do about it now," Harkon said.

"Right," Vacuse grimaced. His main goal for coming into the Great Dungeon was to get a War Artifact that would protect his Western Region and possibly use it to kill his father and put pressure on the other regions.

Vacuse paused as he looked at his attendants. "How about this? I want to fight a fourth circle monster."

They all suddenly stared at him as if he had lost his mind. What exactly was he talking about? To fight a fourth circle monster? Yes, he must absolutely be out of his mind!

Vacuse watched it all play on their faces with a smile. He wanted to test the limits of his strength by going all out against a fourth circle monster... no, wait.

Suddenly, Vacuse’s eyes widened. "There’s still a monster we left behind without killing. I think it’s time to go take its loathsome head."

Their surprise turned into more bewilderment.

But Vacuse was instantly hooked on his own idea, and he grinned. "Yes, yes. I will go back and kill that boss monster of mind stalk apes."

The air stiffened around him as his attendants froze while looking at him. A moment later, the complaints started pouring in.

"You mustn’t! Do you really want to get killed? We had to run from that monster the last time we went! How are you thinking of going back there?" Captain Amros instantly rebuked him, his eyes flashing.

Kagerou frowned but didn’t say anything. Maybe he was the one who knew Vacuse the most and knew he wouldn’t change his mind once he had already made it up to the extent of even telling them about the plan.

Harkon shook his head. "Isn’t this too much, my lord? It would be better if we found a fourth circle monster for you to fight rather than face the boss of the third circle of mind stalk apes."

Vacuse shrugged again. According to what Blood Spike said a while ago when she fought him, he’s a Dragon, and as such, he should start behaving as one. A Dragon must know what he’s capable of.

His instincts were already telling him that things were going to happen. Fighting the mind stalk ape boss was his own personal way of preparing.

"Easy. The reason I ran was because of you guys back then. It would have turned into a complicated and awkward situation for me if you were all taken by the boss. Now, though, I will go alone and won’t mind how I fight."

If Vacuse had indeed turned and fought the boss monster then, the monster would probably have captured the hunters and used them to fight him.

Things would have turned really complicated.

"I still do not support this, my lord. There are better ways to test yourself. Why face that monster again? And it won’t still be the only one. You’ll be fighting a host of monsters under its control," Captain Amros said, trying his best to talk him out of it.

Vacuse smiled at his attempt, but he had already made up his mind. "Just say, I want to finish the last of the apes with my own hands."

Somehow, the news that Vacuse was going after the last of the apes had spread throughout the entire district and beyond. Everyone who heard it thought of one thing — is he trying to court death?

The mind stalk apes were vicious, especially the bigger ones. How would the boss be like?

But since nobody outside of those who went on that particular hunt knew what had happened, they thought the dragon hunters as a whole had a secret technique to deal with the mind stalk apes. Now, though, they were finding out that only their leader, the one in the second circle, was the only one who would go?

The news shocked a lot of people and at the same time caused an excited buzz to spread around. Bets began to fly, but this time people were more cautious. They didn’t rush to bet against the dragon hunters like before.

At the same time, they didn’t rush to bet for him. Surprisingly, some twenty-nine hunters from the dragon hunters suddenly placed huge sums on the outcome, declaring that their leader would return with the body of the boss.

That caused a huge shock to spread as more and more hunters from the dragon hunters came out and started betting for a favorable outcome for their leader.

Some people decided not to bet at all and simply observe. To them, it was better to watch how things turned out than to place bets for or against.
