Chapter 497: Chapter 506: The Truly Trouble-making Woman

The woman’s husband is named David Brown, currently a public official working in a district’s finance bureau, and the woman is named Rachel Wilson, whose father is the deputy captain of the City Maintenance Squad.

David Brown was originally a college graduate from a mountain village. He and Rachel Wilson were schoolmates, and because of his good looks, he was pursued by many girls. However, Rachel Wilson was able to arrange a job for him, so he compromised and married her. With his father-in-law’s support, he became a public official, and within a few years, he landed a position as a section chief.

His father-in-law is just over fifty now and can work for a few more years. David’s future promotions will still rely on him, so even though his wife bosses him around, curses at him, and hits him, he can only endure it.

When his wife has a conflict with someone, he knows one hundred percent that she’s causing trouble outside, but in such situations, he can only follow her lead. So he approached James Brown and said with a stern face, “You dare hit my wife? You’re really asking for it.”

Having been a public official for a few years and with his father-in-law backing him, David Brown may not be able to stand up to his wife, but he often vents his frustrations from home in front of outsiders. At this moment, he glared viciously at James Brown.

James Brown originally thought David Brown was a meek man who wouldn’t retaliate even when his wife hit him, feeling somewhat sympathetic. But seeing this guy being so arrogant now, any sympathy he had instantly vanished. He remarked coldly, “With a wife like that, getting slapped without flinching, I truly admire you.”

David Brown’s expression darkened further. Having such a wife was a source of pain for him. His wife had publicly slapped him earlier, which was humiliating enough. Now, James Brown’s words made him feel even more ashamed, which quickly turned into anger. He cursed and swung his fist at James Brown; he was surprisingly daring.

When he made a move, the other three men also rushed forward. James Brown, wearing swim trunks, had visible chest muscles and abs, clearly a strong person. As David Brown was clearly not James’s match, the other three naturally came to help.

“Hit him! Hit him hard!” Rachel Wilson shouted loudly while holding her son.

Her son, remarkably, also shouted aloud, “Go for it, make him bleed!”

A crowd had gathered by this point, watching the scene with eyes wide, as if seeing monsters, at the mother-son duo. The boy seemed only about three or four years old to be so fierce, and one looked at his mother, it all seemed normal. With a mom like that, what else could be expected from the son?

Grace Lopez and Sarah Grandy watched the four men go after James Brown with faces full of excitement, not worried at all. They’ve seen James in action before, which was impressive, and though these few weren’t real opponents, they enjoyed watching him in action.

James Brown was truly furious now. If these people verbally abused him, he wouldn’t care, but the fact that this grown woman tried to hit his daughter crossed his limit, making it unforgivable.

James all of a sudden lashed out with punches and kicks, quickly knocking all four men to the ground. Though he didn’t hit hard, the blows were surprisingly painful, making the men utterly embarrassed, screaming like pigs being slaughtered.

Ignoring the four men, James walked straight toward Rachel Wilson, who now felt a bit timid, surprised that her four men couldn’t handle James alone. She retreated two steps, shielding her son, and stammered, “What do you want to do?”

Gina Lopez saw James had already dealt with the four men and hurriedly approached, holding Emily Brown, and said, “James, let it go.”

James nodded, took his daughter in his arms, and in her eyes was a sparkling excitement. She hugged James’s neck and pecked his cheek, exclaiming, “Godfather, you’re amazing!”

His daughter’s worshipful gaze made James feel elated beyond words. He smiled slightly, “If Godfather weren’t amazing, how would he protect Little Violet?”

“Great, great, Godfather must always protect me; then I won’t be bullied by anyone ever again, even if the adults try.” Little Violet said confidently.

James turned to Rachel Wilson and said blandly, “Apologize to my daughter.” Although the tone wasn’t heavy, having just knocked down four men made it carry a true sense of authority.

Rachel Wilson, indeed a fierce woman, despite feeling scared, puffed her chest and shouted, “Oh yeah, you dare hit me, do you know who my dad is?”

Charlotte quickly chimed in, “A grown person, still needs to call on Daddy, truly shameless.”

Rachel Wilson sneered, “My dad is the deputy captain of the City Maintenance Squad; you dare hit me; you’ll see soon enough.”

James suddenly found it amusing. Although SSUP Country still holds officials above the ordinary folks, the motto from above is to serve the people. In your office, you can act mighty with those seeking favors, but publicly using your dad’s official status to pressure people is truly embarrassing.

A daughter being so arrogant surely doesn’t have a good father either. Normally, James would just disdainful look at such people, but since she hit his daughter, he’ll make her embarrass her father. When her dad faces trouble, she won’t have the arrogance to flaunt.

“Oh my, your dad is the deputy captain of the City Maintenance Squad?” James immediately feigned some nervousness.

Seeing James like this, Rachel Wilson immediately gained confidence, puffing her chest with an arrogant tone, “Now you know, but it’s too late. You hit me, there’ll be nothing good for you.”

“Don’t scare me; the City Maintenance Squad is a powerful department, but there are several deputy captains. Those ranked lower aren’t so intimidating.”

Rachel Wilson puffed her chest again, her fish-like eyes practically gleaming with pride, “My dad is the second-in-command, you know what that means? Plus, the main captain will soon retire, then my dad will be in charge. Do you know what the City Maintenance Squad captain means in the city? Dare to mess with me, I’ll make sure you can’t stay in YODC City.”

“Second-in-command… Really? I remember quite a few with the surname Wang in the squad; you wouldn’t be pretending, right?”

Rachel Wilson glared, “My dad’s name is Samuel Johnson, truly clueless.”

“Oh, oh, so there’s no mistake.” James nodded repeatedly and turned to grin at Charlotte and Emily Lopez.

Grace Lopez and Charlotte both winked at James; he had already signaled them by changing his tone with the woman. Charlotte discreetly started recording on her phone, capturing her admission of her father’s identity.

“Alright, since your dad is the deputy captain of the City Maintenance Squad, let’s just forget this incident.” James deliberately spoke casually.

“What? You say forget it, just like that?” Rachel Wilson widened her eyes.

James shrugged, “What else do you want? Two kids arguing is no big deal. As a mother, instead of properly educating your child, you hit my daughter. Just because you have a powerful father, does that mean you can bully us ordinary folks?”

James only pointed out Rachel Wilson’s faults, completely ignoring the fact that he hit her and the four men.

Rachel Wilson was a complete dunce and didn’t realize she was falling into James’s trap, continuing to act pompous, “What if I bully you? Today you should kneel and apologize, make your daughter apologize to my son, or else cough up Twenty Thousand Dollars as medical expenses. If you don’t… Ha!” Rachel Wilson sneered, looking disdainfully at James, with an expression like she had him cornered.

Although James intended for her to embarrass her father, he didn’t expect her to make such outrageous demands. It wasn’t just him; Gina Lopez, Grace Lopez, and Charlotte were all visibly angry, and the surrounding onlookers were speechless at Rachel Wilson’s arrogance, thinking even her father as deputy captain couldn’t allow this behavior.

“Are you sure about this?” James’s expression turned once more.

Rachel Wilson, bolstered by invoking her father, completely disregarded James, and with a toss of the head, said, “Kid, know who my dad is? I can call up hundreds of squad members with one phone call and deal with you like child’s play. Be smart, kneel and apologize, or you’re done for.”
