CHAPTER 682: CHAPTER 720: THAT MAN’S NAME IS JAMES BROWN

Brother Bob has been feeling uneasy these days. Blackjack’s sudden incident made him feel that something was really fishy here. Given Blackjack’s years of operation in YODC City, even if he was involved in shady dealings and unable to connect with the authorities, his information network would certainly be very well-informed. If the police could take him down so easily, he wouldn’t have survived this long, yet now he’s been arrested just like that, and there’s plenty of evidence.

It wasn’t surprising for a drug dealer to get caught, and Brother Bob knew that someone like Blackjack would eventually be arrested one day. Hence, he usually stayed out of Blackjack’s affairs, strictly avoiding any connection with him.

If it weren’t for what happened that day, Brother Bob would have thought it was normal. But on that day, Blackjack had just had a conflict with James Brown and then was taken down. This made him suspect that James Brown had something to do with it.

"Boss, we have investigated that James Brown thoroughly. He once worked in the same company with Gina Lopez, the president of J Corporation. Then they came over together to establish J Corporation. At J Corporation, he started as the HR manager and then became the head of the security department."

A young man in his twenties, holding a file in his hand, stood in front of Brother Bob’s desk and began reading.

"From our investigation in the Public Security Bureau, we found out his parents passed away early, he joined the army, and after returning, he worked in YODC City. In terms of social connections, he was well liked at the company and had good relationships with many women. It’s rumored within the company that his colleague, Sarah Utah, is his girlfriend. However, we found out he is already married; his wife is... J Corporation’s president, Gina Lopez."

"This was kept a secret all along?" Brother Bob frowned.

"Yes, very few people know about this. We only found out that his wife is Gina Lopez by investigating his household registration details."

"Does he have any other connections?"

"We haven’t found any so far. If he has a background, Gina Lopez is probably his biggest supporter."

Brother Bob waved the young man out and lit a cigarette himself. He was a powerful figure in YODC City, and with the increasing money he was making, he had more and more contact with officials. He was increasingly inclined to go legit. Only by going legit could he sleep soundly, otherwise he’d be doomed the day they came after him.

So most of his operations were legitimate now. It’s just that some businesses still required his underworld influence to settle things. But his official connections had already become extensive, so investigating James Brown shouldn’t be too difficult.

However, these findings made Brother Bob doubtful. James Brown as portrayed couldn’t possibly take down someone like Blackjack, unless he had a more significant background. Or, it was simply a coincidence, and the authorities had already planned to move against Blackjack and just happened to act at this time.

If it was a coincidence, so be it. But if it were true, it showed how powerful James Brown was, something that Brother Bob could not handle. If he offended him, it could be catastrophic.

While contemplating the matter, the office door was knocked on, and Brother Bob frowned and said, "Come in."

"Brother Bob, long time no see." A young man walked in, laughing heartily and greeting him.

Brother Bob knew this person; it was Robert Goodman from T Corporation. T Corporation did a lot of business with him, so naturally, he had a lot of dealings with Robert Goodman. He stood up immediately and laughed, "Mr. Smith, what wind blew you here?"

Robert Goodman sat down on the sofa and said, "The north wind. Recently I’ve been really troubled by it."

"Oh? Has Mr. Smith encountered some trouble? Do you want me to help resolve some matters for you?" Brother Bob, also a shrewd person, immediately caught on.

Robert Goodman’s face immediately twisted into a sinister look and said, "I want you to take someone down for me."

Brother Bob frowned inwardly. He didn’t want to engage in such matters anymore, but considering how much he relied on T Corporation for business, he dared not refuse. He quickly said, "Mr. Smith, just tell me what needs to be done. I indeed want to see who dared offend Mr. Smith; they must be blind."

Robert Goodman snorted, "I loathe this kid to death. I have to put him to ruin. I want him to die in pain and fear, not just let him die easily."

Brother Bob was a little curious but somewhat worried. Robert Goodman was usually arrogant, never considering others seriously. If the opponent was easy to handle, Robert would have settled it himself, and likely with a grin on his face. But now, he bore such hatred, clearly having suffered a setback. With his power, he could not resolve it, indicating that the other was someone notable. While Robert Goodman wanted to curry favor, becoming enemies with such a person could be troubling.

"Mr. Smith, is there something in YODC City you can’t handle yourself?"

Robert Goodman gnashed his teeth and said, "Damn it, it’s not that I can’t handle it; it’s inconvenient for me to act. I got interested in a woman, and that bastard is her husband. If I go directly against him, it’ll just make that woman hate me. That’s why I want you to do it."

Upon hearing this, Brother Bob felt a bit relieved. Indeed, there are many gold-diggers in today’s society, but there are still some true loves. It seemed Robert Goodman had encountered a woman who didn’t care about his wealth, landing him in a bind. This kind of issue was easier to handle. He laughed and said, "Mr. Smith, these days, there are plenty of beautiful young girls to choose from. What’s there to aim for?"

"No, no, I’ve had my eye on this chick for a while. I have to have her no matter what, married or not."

Brother Bob laughed heartily and said, "Mr. Smith, your tastes have changed. You used to play around with young girls, and now you’re interested in married women. But indeed, married women have more flavor and are not like those little girls who know nothing about pleasing men."

Robert Goodman chuckled, "You do have a point."

"So, Mr. Smith, tell me the name of the person, where they live, and where they work, so I can arrange my people."

"Alright, the person is called James Brown."

"What?" Brother Bob had just been pondering about James Brown, and suddenly Robert Goodman mentioned this name, causing him to shout in surprise.

"What’s wrong? Why are you shouting?" Robert Goodman was scared by Brother Bob, frowned, and looked at him.
