Chapter 129 - 128: The Fairy’s Whisper
CHAPTER 129: CHAPTER 128: THE FAIRY’S WHISPER
Ye Manman propped herself up with her other hand, unable to pull him closer, so she leaned over and gently bit the hard muscle on his back.
He Chen hesitated about whether to stop her, his hand just lifting when suddenly, he sat up straight, feeling an electric shock from head to toe.
Feeling the warm breath on his back, He Chen’s heart pounded wildly in his chest, as if someone was drumming inside his body, making it almost impossible for him to hear clearly.
Yet he clearly heard an enchanting, melodious voice from behind him.
"He Chen, turn around and look at me."
He Chen didn’t even know how he managed to turn around, and the crumpled shirt in his hand was nowhere to be found.
He looked down at Ye Manman’s rosy, lovely face, feeling an urge to bend down and kiss her.
But she still wasn’t done with him.
"Why don’t you dare look at me?"
"I..."
He Chen stammered, not knowing what to say, feeling a bit anxious, flustered, and also a bit pleased and nervous, his eyes slightly red, looking a bit pitiful.
"He Chen..."
Suddenly, an enchanting whisper came to his ear.
He Chen snapped his eyes open and turned his head, only to see Ye Manman sitting up, looking at him with arched eyebrows and a playful smile.
He could no longer control himself, stretching out his long arms to hold her tightly.
Perhaps from being held in for too long, He Chen’s embrace was a bit tight, his breath hot, and Ye Manman felt she could hardly breathe in fresh air.
His eyes blazed like a burning torch, making her blush and feel shy just being stared at.
Ye Manman turned her head slightly away, feeling a bit embarrassed but wondering why this guy seemed more handsome the more she looked at him.
...
Suddenly, He Chen froze, his gaze stagnant, his face reddening after a moment.
"Sorry, Manman, I, I..."
"Sorry, you can yell at me..."
He Chen felt very ashamed.
Previously, Ye Manman had scolded him about this kind of thing, unhappy for a whole day, which worried him very much.
However, unexpectedly to him, Ye Manman didn’t scold him this time. Instead, she stretched her hand out to him.
"Why should I scold you? Do you have some kind of scolding-mania?"
She had a teasing expression, and He Chen really didn’t dare to look into her eyes, having no time to think about whether he was being competent or not, and quickly went to fetch a towel and wet it with hot water.
"I..."
Holding her small hand, He Chen lowered his head in shame, his expression resembling a small daughter-in-law who had done something wrong.
Ye Manman kept looking at him, unable to help but laugh.
"Do you think I was going to scold you for not being capable?"
"Why do you look so scared?"
He Chen honestly nodded.
He remembered reading about these situations in books, considering himself as somewhat unqualified.
He was particularly worried that Ye Manman would dislike him for it.
Yet not only did Ye Manman not mind, she seemed particularly happy.
"What a silly man."
"My hands are sore, hurry up and rub them for me."
She proudly offered her hand, and though He Chen didn’t fully understand, he quickly caught it, gently massaging her fingers and palm.
His expression remained somewhat silly, blank, occasionally breaking into a secret joy, making one want to tease him.
However, Ye Manman wasn’t about to tell him that she used to scold him for being incapable, whereas now she didn’t, because she had experienced just how capable he truly was.
In the end, she didn’t quite like it, and if not for pitying him, she would have just gone back to bed and slept.
That would have been even less humane than before.
Ye Manman didn’t let him massage for long; soon, feeling a bit cold, she snuggled back under the covers, and He Chen went to tidy up his hygiene and then returned to folding clothes.
Seeing the crumpled shirt tossed into the corner, He Chen suddenly recalled what just happened, his face flushing again.
But luckily, Ye Manman didn’t notice.
So he picked up the shirt and tossed it into the dirty laundry basket, deciding to wash it the next day.
After putting all the other clothes back into the closet, He Chen returned to bed.
As soon as he got under the duvet, the bed which remained cold from Ye Manman’s prolonged absence quickly warmed up, like a small heater.
She initially felt a bit cold and her stomach uncomfortable, but after being hugged by He Chen for a while, she surprisingly felt much better.
So Ye Manman snuggled further into his embrace, placing his large hand on her stomach.
"Warm my belly for me, you can take it away once I fall asleep."
"Okay."
He Chen was just thinking about how to get closer to her to keep her warm, and she let him place his hand on her stomach, which he was more than happy to do.
With her belly comfortable, her whole body relaxed, and Ye Manman quickly fell asleep, though He Chen did not remove his hand.
He gently withdrew his hand when his palm got too hot and sweaty, wiping it on his clothes before placing it back on her stomach.
Over and over, without any hint of impatience.
Until he, too, grew drowsy and fell asleep, his hand still resting on her small belly.
Sometimes Ye Manman would shift in her sleep, prompting He Chen to wake up for a moment in a daze before putting his hand back on her stomach.
The next day, Ye Manman didn’t head to the shop to help with the cash register.
He Chen didn’t want her to catch a chill, so he kept her tucked in bed, thoughtfully preparing a thermos of hot water and a pile of snacks by the bed.
That thermos was something He Chen had suddenly purchased from town when the temperature dropped in fall, even though Ye Manman never mentioned it.
She only complained one night during her period, feeling unwell and particularly thirsty, and He Chen didn’t dare let her drink anything cold. When the water in the thermos wasn’t hot, he rushed to boil some in the middle of the night, and she had to toss and turn in bed with a stomachache for a good while waiting.
The next morning, He Chen returned with a thermos, and ever since, every time she had her period, he would fill it with hot water to place by the bed before sleeping.
Of course, the same went for the daytime too.
He Chen worried about her discomfort or running out of water, so he would occasionally sneak upstairs to check on her, even if the shop was busy, asking if there was anything she wanted to eat or drink.
As a result, Ye Manman never got cranky or felt moody during her period.
With a man taking care of her in every detail, it was really hard for her to feel anything but good.
A few days later, when Ye Manman’s belly was completely fine, she couldn’t stand staying cooped up in the room any longer. Seizing a moment when business at the shop was slow, she dragged He Chen out the door.
"He Chen, I heard you have to sign up for the college entrance exam in advance. How about we go ask about it now?"
Since she wasn’t a student currently, she couldn’t sign up for the exam the usual way with the other students. She had some idea about how independent candidates could register, but she needed to go with her documents to find out specifics.
And she had already prepared all those documents, neatly tucked in her small handbag.
