Chapter 1453: Chapter 1376: This is an Order
The meeting dispersed only when it was almost time to get off work.
“Come to my office in a little bit.” Fu Rong said as he stepped out of the elevator.
Is this the time she gets to drink some water and catch her breath? Ye Ranran curled her lips, but she knew that this issue couldn’t be delayed.
If not handled well, it would still affect future elections.
At such a critical moment, there couldn’t be any blemishes.
After resting for ten minutes, Ye Ranran finally walked to Fu Rong’s office, but he wasn’t inside.
Instead, a woman was sitting in his seat.
Ye Ranran recognized her; she was Fu Rong’s date.
“Wen Cai.” The woman called her name accurately, her voice as melodious as a symphony.
Ye Ranran had no intention of dealing with her and turned to leave.
“What’s wrong? Feeling inferior? Or are you too scared to face me?” The voice came again just as Ye Ranran’s hand touched the door handle.
So annoying.
“Inferior? Why would I need to feel that way? What he values about you is your family background and your body. Strip those away, and who do you think you are? Oh, without the family background, at least there’s still the body, right? Someone who climbs the ranks by selling flesh — am I supposed to feel jealous of that?”
It was a direct comparison to a prostitute—nothing could be more cutting than that.
Sure enough, the woman looked as though she’d been stung by a hornet and jumped up: “What did you just say?”
“Are your ears not working? Or is there a problem with your brain? Words this simple and straightforward, and you still can’t understand them? If that’s the case, I suggest you go see a doctor first.” Ye Ranran didn’t hesitate, yanked open the door forcefully.
But before she could fully open it, something hit her. She looked back—it was a string of pearl bracelets.
Judging by its quality, it was worth quite a sum.
She stomped on it with her high heel, and the string holding the pearls snapped instantly. Then she picked up the loose pearls on the ground and threw them back at the woman one by one.
It looked childish, but if the other party wanted to play, she didn’t mind accompanying her.
“What are you doing?” A voice suddenly came from behind.
Fu Rong was standing at the door, holding a cup. The steam swirling around veiled his expression and softened the lines of his face.
Ye Ranran threw the last pearl in her hand at the woman and clapped her hands: “Didn’t you see? Teaching a cheap woman a lesson!”
“Wen Cai, watch your words.” When had she started being this loose-lipped? Did she think this was some market where you could swear freely?
“Alright, I’ll apologize for speaking pure facts.” Ye Ranran shrugged. “So what did you call me over for? If there’s nothing, I’m getting ready to clock out.”
She didn’t want to stay here and keep looking at an eyesore. She couldn’t control others’ feelings, but she could maintain her own pride.
“Ah Rong, you’re back.” The woman stepped forward, looking rather aggrieved as she gazed at him.
Because of how she addressed him, Ye Ranran’s expression stiffened. She could call him that? Their relationship must be really close.
After all, only the closest people would address Fu Rong that way.
Seeing the defiant stance Ye Ranran took, Fu Rong’s gaze darkened: “Apologize.”
“Is that an order?” Ye Ranran met his eyes directly.
“It is.”
And so, her straight back slowly bent. Ye Ranran’s tone was sincere, her brows carried regret, and even her voice held traces of self-reproach: “I’m sorry. Please forgive me.”
She’d been weathering the political scene for years—what kind of grievances hadn’t she endured? Excluding sexual harassment, she’d seen things far more cunning than this.
But today was different. The person forcing her to do this was someone she had liked for many years.
