CHAPTER 1529: CHAPTER 1551: GO FOR A CHECKUP

"Mm, listen to your teacher during class, and no slacking off." Ye Ranran reminded her child like any ordinary mother, her eyes radiating a tenderness she herself wasn’t even aware of.

The teacher looked at her youthful face, her gaze filled with envy. With this appearance, if she hadn’t seen it with her own eyes, she wouldn’t believe Ye Ranran already had a child.

After dropping her child off, Ye Ranran sat back in the car. "Have you ever attended one of the child’s parent-teacher meetings?"

"My secretary went in my place," Jun Mochan replied, a hint of discomfort crossing his brow.

The people there are sharp-eyed. If he showed up, he’d definitely be recognized, which wouldn’t be good for the child’s studies.

The most important concern was that someone might take advantage of the situation.

Ye Ranran naturally understood this.

No matter how low-profile Jun Mochan tried to be, he still had to appear on television occasionally—giving speeches and whatnot. Not to mention the past, but with the upcoming military parade, could he really cover his face then?

"Unhappy?" Jun Mochan asked, leaning closer when he noticed Ye Ranran’s silence.

She could feel his presence so close to her, so close that without turning around, she already knew he was just inches away. Close enough that if she turned her head, she’d bump into him.

"Not really, I just feel a bit sorry for the child." But looking into the little one’s eyes, she couldn’t detect a shred of unhappiness or resentment.

Was he too naive to understand, or did he truly not care?

Such a young child couldn’t possibly have such deep thoughts, could he?

"There’s no other way. Born into a family like ours, he enjoys immense love and will one day inherit wealth and power. But there’s always a price to pay. Me not attending parent-teacher meetings is for his own good—it doesn’t mean I don’t love him or care about him." Jun Mochan wanted to attend as well, but to protect their child, he thought it better to keep his distance.

Ye Ranran massaged her temples. "I know, I’m just worried the child might be unhappy, that’s all."

She felt as though she tended to overthink things, likely a result of her professional habits.

If she didn’t overthink, and something went wrong, redoing things would be a small matter. The bigger issue would be the potential consequences that followed.

"He wasn’t happy at first, but after I explained it to him, he came to accept it. Maybe he doesn’t fully understand yet, but as he grows older, he’ll come to see why." Jun Mochan placed a hand on her shoulder and gently pulled her toward him. "Don’t overthink it. Children are sensitive. As long as he knows I love him and I’m not lying to him, he’ll naturally come to accept it."

As for whether he understood, Jun Mochan didn’t expect him to grasp it all at once anyway.

Ye Ranran stayed silent for a long time, a faint arc tracing the corner of her eyes. "You’ve really taught the child well."

He was a great father. As for her, she wasn’t sure if she measured up to being a good mother.

Hearing the compliment, Jun Mochan’s lips curved into a pleased smile. His handsome features, framed by the soft daylight, exuded an intoxicating charm. "Shall I take you to the hospital for a checkup?"

"Alright." Ye Ranran didn’t refuse. "But I can go by myself; you don’t need to come with me."

He was surely very busy. She couldn’t possibly let him waste his time on her.

Just as Jun Mochan was about to say he wasn’t busy, Zhou Xian’s call came through. It turned out there was a meeting that day he absolutely had to attend, regarding new urban construction plans.

Ye Ranran didn’t know what Zhou Xian was saying on the other end, but when she heard Jun Mochan suggest postponing the meeting, her eyebrows furrowed.

"Why postpone it? Am I, a grown adult, incapable of going to the hospital on my own?"

Jun Mochan had always known Ye Ranran was very independent. She had never acted unreasonable, nor had she ever asked him to spend more time with her.
