After eight in the evening, two young men sat in the backseat of a black Bentley, in a somewhat awkward silence. Both men decided to focus on the view outside the window rather than address the elephant in the room.

The young of the two was trying his best to keep a calm expression on his face, but was failing immensely.

The older heaved a heavy sigh. He opened his mouth to say something, but changed his words in the last second. "I think it's time to go back to Nanjing."

"Pfftt! HAHAHAHAHAHA!"

Chen Kai sighed once more. He didn't expect a dinner that he brushed off as normal to turn into a brawl of words between himself and that woman.

Who made her so petty? She was so venomous with her words that he began to doubt her family background. Can a greenhouse flower be so thorny?

Well, his words pierced all her soft spots, but still... he didn't expect her to become a shrew?

"Brother, congratulations. Even though I've seen it before, it's still entertaining to see it by that auntie." Chen Yan made sure to capture it on his phone. It's rare to witness his brother anger someone to the point of no return.

It won't be long before the rumors circulate - Son angered his stepmother to death.

Rubbing the middle of his brows tiredly, he recalled the indifferent look on his father's face when his second son sat idly by with not one word to refute the callous words falling on both him and his mother.

Sun Yilan began her petty behaviour first. As an elder who begins spouting bullshit, a few polite comebacks were allowed, but one must touch the other person's bottom line.

Sun Yilan did.

She cursed the woman who was dear in his and his father's heart.

Their rebuttal sent her over the edge.

Her words become fiercer.

Chen Kai knew at the back of his mind that she was like a viper protecting her territory, but that gave her no right to insult his mother.

"A withered little woman still doesn't know her place? A woman who pampered her son till he became a waste has the right to speak to me as an elder? Please remember how you became madam of this house. I came here to have dinner with my father, not to watch a show of a retired clown jumping up and down in front of me. Screaming like a banshee in front of guests, sending out detectives to follow your husband, slandering the current CEO of your family's company - you're more like an enemy to the family than the Madam Chen you wanted to be..

Madam Sun, in my eyes, you're a simple placeholder and a contributor to the Chen family bloodline. Nothing more. Nothing Less. Please don't think highly of yourself."

His words were unhurried and cold. Each word pierced Sun Yilan at that time. Chen Kai was too pissed off and said some more words that he didn't want to repeat, but it was enough to cause her to faint out of anger.

Weak-willed doddy woman.

His father said nothing.

Chen Boyang attended to his mother, then sent her to her room with the servants. The young man didn't say a word to his father. Chen Kai was annoyed that the brat who lived without worries was treating their father as a stranger.

It wasn't his plan to get involved with his father's housework, but which child can stand their father being treated like that?

Chen Kai sighed, thinking back, he cursed his emotional flare-up.

On that protective instinct, he lashed out fiercely at Chen Boyang.

It wasn't pretty.

The kid's mentality was weaker than his mother's, and he couldn't take the truthful facts and unbiased criticism.

So what would a hot-tempered, pampered, immature young master do?

He flipped the table.

Well. Sort of.

The dinner table was made of walnut with intricate designs. As a full-time waste, Chen Boyang's strength wasn't quite enough.

Under the eyes of an amused preteen, a sarcastic older brother, and a tired father, Chen Boyang decided to perform a magic trick by pulling off the tablecloth while cursing to the high heavens.

He failed once again.

But the food did spill over the three spectators. Additionally, he broke several of his father's specially crafted porcelain dishes.

Chen Boyang struck a lot of misses tonight, and Chen Kai was mentally tired from it all.

His concern was for his father, though.

"I hope Dad is alright?" he murmured under his breath, but Chen Yan heard.

Chen Yan snapped his fingers and created a sound barrier, covering the two instantly. "You have accepted the old man?"

"He's a genuine connection to this star. This feeling is a bit nostalgic." Chen Kai truthfully answered his little brother.

After years of brotherly connection with the kid, he can understand his thoughts without needing him to explain so he wasn't surprised by the next question.

"Do I need such a connection?" The teenager's brows furrowed deeply in thought.

Chen Kai didn't know how to answer at first, but still gave some words of closure. "It has been hundreds of years since you've remembered Father Emperor, right?"

"I can't even recall his face." The quiet voice was filled with confusion and pure sadness.

"I can't fully recall my parents either. I have to dive into my mindscape to recollect my original memories. The more I look back, the more I struggle to keep that feeling of once having parents. It's.... very vague. After meeting Chen Huai, that feeling gradually came back."

Chen Yan smiled, happy for his brother. He always thought that he only needed his big brother as family. In his past life, it was him; in this life, it will also be him, but knowing he does have a blood connection on this star, he began to rethink things.

"You don't need that overused pretty boy; Chen Huai already treats you genuinely." Chen Kai wouldn't force his little brother to worship his ancestors; family only has blood ties, nothing more. That was a lesson he learned over the years.

"I'll think it over." He snapped his fingers once more, removing the barrier just as they reached home.

When the duo left the confines of the car, they came to a standstill upon seeing Tong Ming staring at them expressionlessly. He didn't have to say anything; the eyes that were watching their messy attire spoke volumes. The two left immaculately clean, only to return like two naughty kids from a birthday party.

"At least I didn't have to visit the hospital," Tong Ming finally said after a long moment of heavy silence.

Chen Yan piped up at this time with a cheeky grin, "But the other party did."

Tong Ming sighed heavily. "Patriarch. Please go in. Little Master Chen, you too."

If this happened at the father's house, what about the ancestral home? Tong Ming quietly revised his plan for that visit immediately.
