The Ugly Duckling Of The Tiger Tribe
Chapter 33: Let’s find some rocks
CHAPTER 33: LET’S FIND SOME ROCKS
I finally beheld it, the huge rock of salt, and gulped.
"This..."
It was huge. I mean, really huge. My size kind of huge.
I circled around the rock of salt that had been placed in the corner, as if they didn’t know what to do with it, and I’m certain they absolutely don’t know what to do with it.
"It’s a gift," Fenric said, looking quite proud. "We don’t know what it is and it has a weird taste, but it’s good for the scenery." He explained. "And also for scratching." He let out his claws and scratched the surface, wasting precious resources, and I hissed like a cat at full alert.
"Don’t touch that!"
He immediately took his hand away.
I know cats like scratching stuff but can you at least act like you’re so much smarter than... I accidentally placed my hand on the rock of salt and then my feline instinct kicked in.
"Meow!" I scratched without even realizing it.
Fenric laughed and that jolted me out of my current state.
What did I just do?
"What’d I tell you? Good for scratching."
Meow, he was right.
Wait, stop that! Stop meowing. I’m not even a cat.
"Anyway," I scattered the salt from my hands, acting like I hadn’t done that just now. "Where in the world did you get it from?" Gotta get my pen and paper to write down the spot for this salt depot.
"It was on our way. The ocean that dries up when winter approaches your grasslands had once again dried up, leaving these rocks." He said. "It shines under the sun so my father decided to bring it as a gift."
Bless your father.
"Do you know what it is?" He asked, nudging me.
"Of course I know that it is."
I’ll make sure to make tonight’s feast a great feast. We’re having a barbecue.
I could already feel my mouth salivating since I haven’t had any good food to eat since I got here. The fruits are what’s been keeping me from starvation this whole time.
I’m so glad I didn’t have to spend days or even weeks looking for a salt depot.
The salt came to me.
It seems like I’m deeply loved by this world and it’s trying to help me. I feel so proud.
"Do you like it that much?" Fenric asked and my eyes twinkled.
"Like it? I love it."
No one can live without taking in salt from where I’m from. You’ll only suffer from a deficiency if you don’t take it.
"Come help me with a few things."
"Alright. Anything."
I was glad that he was being so cooperative but he was a little... I don’t know, clingy. I don’t mind that either.
After all, I love my man clingy.
"Let’s find some rocks."
If I can find some clean slate rocks, then I might be able to set the table for barbecue.
Who says animals should only eat raw and bloody meat?
I’ll definitely make a meal worth swallowing and digesting tonight.
After a short while, we found the rocks. Though not clean-slated, it was better than nothing.
"I got that," Fenric said, carrying the rocks I had stacked.
What? Did he think I was going to carry them by myself when he was here? I was just stacking them to make it easier for him to carry but he seems to have a misunderstanding.
It doesn’t matter, either way.
"Careful," I said, but saw how effortlessly he carried the rocks.
"This is nothing." He proudly said, flashing his teeth. "I can even carry you on my back right now and I won’t feel the weight."
Oh wow, you’re so~ strong.
"Then I will follow from the side," I said and walked beside him.
The tribe folks were staring, wondering what we were up to, carrying such large rocks.
I’m planning to build a hut, you dumbassses.
I gave them both of my middle fingers but they didn’t even know I was insulting them. The joy.
"Should I place it here?" Fenric asked as he stopped in our designated spot, which just so happens to be the center of the feast ground.
"Yeah, right there."
Strangely, Fenric did not question me. It was as if he supported everything I was doing and was going to keep supporting me, as long as what I was doing made me happy.
He smiled at me and I smiled back.
"You’re so reliable."
"So are you." He said, reaching his hand for my waist and leaning closer.
With his tall and huge stature, of course, our heads wouldn’t just bump like he wanted them to, so he arched his back until his forehead touched mine.
"You’re smart and incredible."
This was just him repeating the praises I made him say before but for some reason, it was a different effect.
From his hand on my waist, his forehead on mine, I could feel the heat of this beastman.
And then those eyes that stared right into mine as he proved his sincerity towards me with no words but the sound of his warrior’s heart beat... I couldn’t help but swoon for a moment.
Behind us was Veyra, and walking alongside her were two of the females from our tribe. Not just them but Solin, Fenric’s sister, who didn’t seem interested in anything at all.
While the others complained about how we were taking every place to be our playground, she simply stared... Curious.
Her brother had never shown interest in any female before, just as she had never shown any interest in any male... So why was he suddenly like that... With me?
What was the difference between me and the rest of the females who had wanted to get close to him?
And why... Did he seem so happy?
I quickly noticed we were getting an audience and pushed Fenric’s hand down, as if I was escaping his impending lips from meeting mine.
I don’t know if he had such an idea or if it was just my modern ideology of the man leaning in to kiss once in that position, but he certainly wanted to do something.
Too bad we were interrupted.
