The Unstoppable Comeback Of the Unrivaled Ex-Wife
Chapter 656
CHAPTER 656: CHAPTER 656
Joanna did not broach that topic, feeling embarrassed to do so.
"Let me guess... Is it Ace?" Justin instantly guessed from the look on her face, but there was one thing he couldn’t figure out. "If he wanted to harm Quinton, why would he go to all that trouble to hire Owen? It doesn’t make sense."
"Who knows? Maybe he wanted to make me let my guard down and then use a crueler way to get rid of my brother. If my brother’s gone, both the Pierce family and my brother’s status in Water Dock will no longer be a threat to him," Joanna suggested. She generally didn’t like to see the bad in people, but she had seen how complicated and wicked people could become with time.
"It could be, but I think you should ask him about it. He’s rather straightforward, so I’m sure he won’t deny it if he was the one who did it," Justin said slowly.
Joanna stared at him for a while, then smiled oddly at him." You’re... weird."
He grinned back at her. "I’m being nice, okay?"
"That’s what’s puzzling me..." For the first time, Joanna felt like she didn’t know Justin at all. He appeared to be cunning, but was in fact pretty naive. "The Baldwin family is never on good terms with the Moran family, but you gave up a great chance to create a rift between Ace and I by advising me
to ask Ace about it. You’ll be helping him if this turns out to be a misunderstanding."
"I don’t want to do that. It would be dishonorable even if I win." Justin’s gaze was clear and sincere. "I just don’t want to see you exhaust yourself with thoughts of revenge. You also can’t pretend that it never happened, and judging by the way you sat out here for hours, you’ll be feeling conflicted all day.
You may as well get it over with and ask him about it. You need to figure out whether to take revenge or forgive him, right?" He sounded resigned, and offered her a sad smile.
She took a deep breath, feeling much more relaxed. She then stood up and held her fist out to him. "Thank you for helping me figure things out. I’ll buy you a drink one day."
Justin slowly bumped her fist. "Where are you going?"
"To do what you said." After that, she left.
Justin remained where he was, looking at the pond and smiling bitterly. "Oh, Justin... You really are a fool."
Both Ace and Owen were sitting across from each other in Tipsy Grove.
"Owen, thank you for what you did. Let’s toast." Ace held a glass of wine and looked at Owen sincerely.
"Ah, it’s nothing. If you don’t mind, we can go fishing again when you’re free..." Owen held his glass and clinked it with Ace’s, smiling broadly.
They then leaned backward and drank their wine.
"To be honest with you, the patient has a strong desire to live, and I just made use of that... The hospital called just now and told me that someone purposely took off the patient’s oxygen mask, but he survived it. He’s pretty tough."
Ace’s wine glass fell from his hand, and his face went pale. "What did you say?"
Ace’s shock surprised Owen. Raising his brows, Owen asked, "You didn’t know about it?"
Ace was speechless, a solemn expression on his face. A waiter immediately came forward with a new glass for Ace, and carefully filled it with wine.
"You really didn’t know?" Owen found it strange. "Shouldn’t Miss Pierce inform you if something happens to her brother? You two seemed pretty close."
"Close? Hardly," Ace scoffed and drank his wine grumpily.
"Ace, you can’t be that blind. It’s obvious you both have feelings for each other, but you both keep trying to hide it!" Owen always traveled, so he wasn’t aware of the news in the City. He also didn’t know that Ace and Joanna were once married to each other, and as an outsider, he only noticed that the two had feelings for each other.
"We did have history, but I had an accident, and I forgot all about my past with her. All the people around me claimed that she did a lot of things to harm me, and even she admitted that I was nearly killed in her hands. My brain injury has something to do with her too, but..." Ace trailed off, looking pained, and just gulped his wine down miserably.
"But what?" Owen’s eyes lit up as he asked eagerly.
"It’s nothing." Ace did not want to say much, and just focused on the feeling of the alcohol burning his throat as it went down.
"Tell me, please. Maybe I can help you. Did you forget I’m a top neurosurgeon? I can probably help you find your lost memories."
"Really?" Ace looked up immediately, and this was the first time Owen had seen so much emotion on his face. He sounded agitated as he asked, "Can you help me regain my memories?"
After that brain surgery, he always wanted to get an exceptional medical expert to restart his treatment, but his illness was unsteady, so everyone had objected to it.
However, he now knew Owen, so this was a golden opportunity.
"Why would I lie to you? I’m skilled in brain surgery, and that’s no exaggeration!" Owen patted his chest. Although he was arrogant, he had every right to be.
"Okay, I’ll let you treat me if there’s a chance." Ace disliked this feeling of loss very much, so he decided to take a risk.
"Sure, but you haven’t answered my question." Owen pursed his lips and smiled, pushing Ace for an answer. "What did you want to say just now?"
"What do you mean? I don’t understand."
Owen refused to give up. "You said you knew that Miss Pierce might be your enemy, but...?"
"There’s no but," Ace said abruptly and gulped down more of his wine.
"Fine, forget it if you don’t want to tell me. I’m sure you’ll tell me all about it when I help you get your memories back."
"Fine, we’ll talk about it then."
They chatted happily and drank wine like old friends, and it was midnight when they finally waved goodbye at the door.
Ace was tipsy, so he closed his eyes and leaned back against the seat of his car.
At that moment, Joanna called him.
