CHAPTER 59: AROUSAL OF THE VAMPIRES [1]

Humans are ugly creatures.

All of them.

They preach about kindness, killing innocent beasts for sacrifice to the God.

They preach about peace, invading the land of other races, as if the whole world is their property only.

They preach about order, yet sow chaos wherever they go.

They speak of justice, yet their courts are rigged by gold, bloodlines, and whispered favors.

They speak of loyalty, yet betray even their own children for status or a seat at the table.

They call other races savages, forgetting their own hands are soaked in far older, far deeper sins.

Hypocrisy is not their flaw—

It is their very nature.

I’ve seen their temples, pristine and hollow, built atop the bones of slaughtered forests.

I’ve seen their heroes, draped in medals, lauded for killing innocents under banners of "righteous war."

And worst of all...

They believe themselves the victims.

They raise statues to their pain while erasing every scar they’ve inflicted on others.

Yet, there stands an undisputed truth among all.

Humans try to call for truce, while preparing for war.

History remains the sole witness of all the treacherous activities conducted by the human race.

And, history is the sole survivor of it, as the rest perished alongside their families fighting against such treacheries.

I am not a human, thankfully.

Well, not right now, but I was, once.

When I frantically tried to find the truth of this world, and do you know what I found out?

The bloodshed this human race has done over the years.

Yet, they live peacefully, as if they have done nothing at all.

This capital city filled with noise and laughter after the evening arrives, those mana infused lights blickering within the city market, and those cheery people laughing their hearts out, enjoying the night life as they want with their loved ones by their side.

All of it infuriates me.

How can you all live so happily?

Do you not feel a shred of remorse for the blood buried beneath your cobbled streets?

Do you not hear the screams of the old forests that once thrived where your marketplaces now stand?

Do you not smell the burned ashes of the Beastkin villages flattened for your cities’ expansion?

Do your gods not choke on the incense you offer them, thick with the scent of deceit?

I have wandered through those same streets — cloaked, hidden, a ghost among the masses.

And I have watched.

Watched as a drunk noble tossed bread at a starving child and laughed when the child scrambled on all fours to eat.

Watched as a priest blessed soldiers before they marched off to "purge" a nearby rebel camp — rebels who only wanted clean water and land that was once theirs.

Watched as smiling merchants sold trinkets made of elven bones and siren pearls, then turned around and toasted to "peace among races."

I have listened to your ballads, your songs, your stories.

And not one of them speaks the truth.

My name is Laurel Barriston.

The only daughter of Duke Barriston, the most prominent man in the trade industry of this Kingdom Sylvanna.

Well, I was his daughter, before, ’they’ showed me the truth, choked to death by this lowly race of humanity.

And I will not stand by to watch this facade anymore.

I will plunge this city.

I will engrave the fear, they have abandoned since long.

Let the world witness the wrath of the one true race, destined to rule over all.

The only race to maintain its dignity and nobility, unlike these humans.

Yes, from here on, the light shall know the meaning of true darkness.

And when the world is shrouded in darkness, will arise my kin.

Vampires.

The night shall arrive again.

And when that occurs, this city shall perish.

***

It was pitch darkness, as I stood by the firepit, watching the little twigs I had gathered earlier, burn.

I looked at my stats again, realising I have grown much stronger than I was when I regained consciousness.

I have realised many more things about this system window.

The stats grow as I train naturally.

Charm, luck and intelligence are not something you can increase through training.

So, I am thinking of adding story points to increase them.

Who knows my charm might knock some beauty over?

And the luck.

I haven’t realised it yet, but I think every incident I am going through has to do something with my luck.

Now that I know what I have done in the earlier regressions, I can say this with guarantee.

However, I didn’t go that far into the story after my first death, as Monica would find me and kill me every time.

So, I had to run away from her, but look how many times I have regressed.

It was exactly 6 times.

Well, keeping that fact aside, the next event is going to be very critical one.

As it would be like a zombie outbreak in this capital city.

Not exactly zombies but vampires.

Incomplete ones, at that.

It will start this night only.

The day the five races announced truce and cooperation, a frustrated character will break down and create an army of incomplete vampires or you may call them thralls, to invade the entire city.

Laurel Barriston.

The girl I saved that day, and due to whom I am suffering like this.

Well, I won’t say it’s completely her fault, as the administration made all the decisions.

But now that I have read the story, I can slightly understand her perspective.

According to the story, Aster, the protagonist and his team of lead characters will take care of all of this mess.

So, I don’t have to worry about anything at all.

Or so I would have said, if I didn’t have any goal.

This time, I don’t have to do much.

Just after the whole fight is over, to turn every one back to humans, Aster begs in front of Laurel.

Like literally.

But, as pride as vampires are, she didn’t give a fuck, and attacked all of them, mercilessly.

Eventually, she was defeated, and killed by one of the girls of his party, I forgot her name again.

For the goal I am thriving to achieve, I need strong characters by my side.

So, I will acquire Laurel by saving her again, if I have to.

She will also have to pay for what she did to me, and I am not letting her die that easily.

You know what I mean.

Now let’s get started on this.

I activated ShadowStep and Unseen Veil, and vanished into the shadows of the forest—tonight, the hunt begins.
